The Arnolfini Marriage

(1434) The Arnolifin Marriage is a oil portrait. This painting’s idea is interesting because it’s said that this painting was known as a ‘wedding certificate’ for Giovanni Arnolfini and Giovanna Cenami, who married in Bruges in 1434. He was an Italian merchant, she the daughter of an Italian merchant. It is significant because it is oil on wood which is one of the styles Eyck was known for. This was one of Eyck’s most famous paintings.

The Man in a Red Turban

(1433) This portrait was oil on canvas. Man in a Red Turban is one of Eyck’s non-religious paintings, but a self portrait. He wanted to paint it as real as possible. For this reason he did not want it to seem as if he was perfect but as a man would appear as true as possible.
