Rip-stop ABU
The new Rip-stop Airman Battle Uniform (RABU), featuring a lighter nylon-cotton blend was introduced to the Air Force in June
2012. This uniform is designed exactly like the ABU, however, the new material is similar to the old summer-weight battle dress
uniform. The change to the new material made the RABU light and cooler, but it's also treated with a wrinkle-resistant
finish. Initially, the uniform's in-store priority was given to state-side bases with hotter climates; however it is now available world-
wide as well as through AAFES on-line sales at http://www.shopmyexchange.com/.
Operation Refresh is a hit!
This program was introduced in October 2011 to modernize and add new/trendy recipe items to the standard core food service
menus currently used in Air Force Dining Facilities. Since implementation, the program continues to receive positive feedback
from the field. Both the Airmen who eat in our dining facilities and the food service professionals who work in them are enjoying
new or revamped recipes. To date, we have implemented 23 new recipes, along with two training videos and step-by-step
guides to assist our food service professionals in the preparation of the new menu items. Additionally, we have partnered with
industry executive chefs to continue to develop fresh recipe trends and provide culinary skills training to our installations. We're
excited about the possibilities of this initiative and will continue to make Operation Refresh a relevant and progressive program
for future Air Force Food Service operations! Please send ideas or feedback to MSgt Adrienne Mimms at

Wounded Warrior Gets Help With New Battle Buddy
Staff Sgt. Andrew Goligowski, an Air Force wounded warrior, has a new buddy that is helping him cope with his physical and
mental pain. Goligowski struggles with post-traumatic stress and the pain caused by sarcoidosis, a disease with no cure that
causes inflammation in the lymph nodes, organs, joints, and other tissues. He was grumpy and moody, and thinking he was never
going to be able to do his Air Force job again; the negative thoughts wouldn't go away. Then he met Mali, a 3-year-old Belgian
Malinois working dog, through the Train A Dog - Save A Warrior program. She is now the reason for Goligowski to get out of
bed in the morning, and the walls don't close in when he's with her. There's a special bond between the sergeant and his new
battle buddy. Goligowski needed help, and Mali needed a job -- in the end, they both got what they needed. For the complete
story and photos, visit http://1.usa.gov/TRtdLt
