    complete written Works consist

of 55 hefty volumes, with unusu-

    ally small print! He accomplished

this with just his quill pen and an

    inkwell! No computers! No

    internet! No typewriters or

even a standard ink pen! But

there was one thing he did have

that is so often lacking amidst

    our technological advances and

    abundance: An insatiable desire

to make an impact for Christ at

    home and abroad.

    History is filled with single-

    eyed men and women who

    made their dent upon this

    world with the slenderest of

means. But they had God! And

    for them, God was enough!

    (Continued on back page)

    ...Everyone to whom much was

given, of him much will be re-

    quired... Luke 12:48 (ESV)

In my office there hangs a por-trait of John Calvin (1509-1564).

    That portraitas well as others

in my officeis there to remind

me of the truth of Henry Varley's

    words uttered 350 years after

John Calvin lived and died: The

world has yet to see what God

can do with and for and through

and in a man who is fully and

    wholly consecrated to Him.

When Henry Varley spoke thosewords, there was a young man

    who heard them and responded

with: I propose to be that man!

    That young man was D.L.

    Moodya man who was des-

tined to make his mark for Jesus

Christ upon this lost and dying

    world.

    What especially amazes me

about so many of these individu-

als who made their mark for

    Christ in previous generations, is

just how little they had to work

    with by today's standards. Take

John Calvin as an example. His

    Christmas Outreach

Thanks to all who participated in

    the Christmas Outreach Satur-

    day, December 12th. We were

able to distribute 250 door hang-

    ers with New Testaments, tracts,

a free offer for the ESV on-line

    Study Bible, a Christmas invita-

tion to our services, and informa-tion about our church's minis-

    tries.

    Thanks to the following people:

    Ellen Coulter - Creating and

    supplying much of the church

    materials for each hanger.

Youth Group - Tina & JeremyCulver, Greg Simmons, Brandon

    Simmons, Jesse Blum, Amber

    Vanderwerff, Hope Murgia, and

Nate Phipps for placing all the

    materials into each door hanger.

    The cross, laver,

    symbols that join

    The following people helped

distribute the hangers to atotal of 8 apartment com-

    plexes in the LaFayette and

    Tully areas:

    James and Stephanie Dow and

    family - Willow Wood Apts.

    Becky Mintz - Willow Wood

    Apts.

    Enoch Bastian - Belmont Ridge

    and Grove St. Apts. Tully

    Cheryl Diaz - Belmont Ridge

    and Grove St. Apts. Tully

Dee and David Butler - Festival

Garden and Edge of the Pond

    Apts.

    Larry Petry - Bellwood Arms

    and Appleridge Apts.

    Joyce Phillips - Bellwood Arms

    and Appleridge Apts.

Elly Smid - Lord's Hill Apts.

    Great job team!

must come to the end of our-

    selves and never become self-

    sufficient apart from Christ.

Such holiness means living a life

    of simple dependence, moment

    by moment, on Christ alone.

    The laver signifies the daily

    cleansing from sin by the

    power of the Holy Spirit.

His divine power has given us

everything we need for life and

    godliness through our knowledge

of him who called us by his own

    glory and goodness.

    II Peter 1:3

    The PITCHER represents

    Christ our HEALER. This

    symbol represents a pitcher

    containing oil to anoint the

    sick for healing that comes

through obedience to GodsWord. The Lord Jesus has

    purchased and provided for

    His believing and obedient

    children physical strength, life,

and healing as freely as the

    spiritual blessings of the gospel.

He took up our infirmities as

well as our sins, and from His

risen life and living touch, our

    faith may draw health and

strength until our life work is

    done.

And the prayer offered in faith

    will make the sick person well;

the Lord will raise him up.

    James 5:15

    The CROWN represents

    Christ our Coming King. The

    Lord Jesus is coming personally

to this earth again. It is not a

    mere spiritual coming, either at

death or in a deeper experi-

ence of the Holy Spirit, or in

    the spread of the gospel

throughout the world; but it is

the coming of the Lord Himself

    as literally and personally as

    when He went away.

You will see the Son of Man

sitting at the right hand of the

Mighty One and coming on the

    clouds of heaven.

    Mark 14:62

    The CROSS represents Christ

    our SAVIOR. We believe

Jesus Christ died for our sins

    according to the Scriptures

    that we are redeemed through

    His precious blood, justified by

    His death and resurrection,

    made righteous through His

    righteousness, and accepted in

    His name.

Salvation is found in no one else,

for there is no other name under

heaven given to man by which we

    must be saved.

    Acts 4:12

    The LAVER represents Christ

    our SANCTIFIER. The laver

was a vessel used in the temple

by the priest in the Old Testa-

ment. The priest used it to

wash his hands and feet beforeentering the Holy Place. Holi-

ness is the Lord Jesus Christ

    Himself so dwelling in our

hearts and so walking in our

steps that we shall live like

Him. This is not for our own

    pride or self-sufficiency, for

before we can receive it, we

    the PERSON. E.M. Bounds (1835-

1913) wrote in his little book, Power

in Prayer, these words that are

probably worth copying on the flyleaf

    of your Bible:

    We are constantly on a

stretch, if not on a strain, to devise new

    methods, new plans, new organizations

to advance the Church and secure

enlargement and efficiency for the gos-

pel. This trend of the day has a tendency

to lose sight of the man or sink the manin the plan or organization. God's plan is

to make much of the man, far more of

him than of anything else. Men are

God's method. The Church is looking for

better methods; God is looking for better

men...What the Church needs to-day is

not more machinery or better, not new

organizations or more and novel meth-

ods, but men whom the Holy Spirit can

use -- men of prayer, men mighty in

    (Continued from page 1)

I thank God for all of the tools and

advances we have today. The com-

puter has cut the time by more than

half of what it used to take to get the

Bible to those who have never had

one in their own language. Television

and radio have been used to get the

    Gospel message into places where

    missionaries have not been allowed

to go. The Internet has been used

with incredible effectiveness in train-ing pastors in third-world settings

where such an education was un-

heard of just 15 years ago. These

tools have been used by God in ways

that the entire Body of Christ can

    rejoice in.

But we dare not think that advanced

    technologies and tools can replace

prayer. The Holy Spirit does not flow

through methods, but through men. He

does not come on machinery, but on

men. He does not anoint plans, but men

    -- men of prayer.

As you begin this new year, remem-

ber that MEN and WOMEN are

    God's method! Technologies may be

wonderfully used by God, but in the

end, The world has yet to see what

God can do with and for and throughand in a man who is fully and wholly

    consecrated to Him.

May God raise you up to be just such

    a person in 2010!

    Pastor Rob
