the creat ion of space wor th inhabit ing is paramount, spaces where an exper ience can be posit ive or unique, lett ing the subjec t feel , or learn something new. the preser vat ion of systems that func t ion wel l and suppor t the s i te and i ts surroundings is impor tant , whi le those that do not should be a l tered, given the oppor tunit y. a general conceptual d i rec t ion is required for each projec t , whi le some may be more abstrac t , whi le others may be more ut i l i t y based. i bel ieve in the use of susta inable mater ia ls , renewables, and resource saving bui lding technologies is impor tant , and that bui ld ing is wor th more to the user i f i t saves them money over t ime.
architec ture, l ike many ar t forms, i s a learning medium for both designer and user. des igners discover needs of a c l ients problem, and sometimes of the given area, a long with histor y and provide a solut ion that wi l l work only for that par t icular projec t . architec ture, however is a lso a sc ience, and a great deal of considerat ion has to be put into the non-aesthet ic aspec ts of a bui ld ing.
design is composed of ut i l i t y and s igni f icance. the former fu l f i l l s requirements based on needs, whi le the latter separates i t f rom other produc ts, through meaning to designer, user, and contex t .

The nal design is a clean bench formed of ply-wood and PVC pipe. The seat back starts at an upward position and gradually leans back to a more relaxed position. The back can be utilized for bike storage which can accomodate about 10 bikes. Because it is only slightly longer than 8 feet long, the bench is easy to move and can be easily reproduced. The bench will be Rhino Lined which will then waterproof the entire bench and provide a longer life.

Layout of headquarters’ program in a linear path, towards the river, narrating the FDR and their cause. The program is separated into 3 distinct program elements (lecture hall, event hall, and field lab) symbolizing 1. remediation 2. remediation effects and 3. preservation efforts.By shifting the mass of the program towards the north side of the building, it allowed for the best views towards river and open space along the south face.

this projec t was construc ted as par t of MakeLab digita l fabr icat ion c lass at Lawrence Tech. through model ing sof t ware we prepared the 3D model of the bench. We then cut out the pieces us ing a CNC router, and assembled with cut jo ints in the wood prof i les. th is projec t taught us a lot about tak ing a projec t back and for th through the design and produc t ion phases. we had to protot ype var ious e lements of the bench many t imes before f inal ly ar r iv ing at the f inal des ign proposal .
the bench was to solve t wo problems, lack of seat ing, and lack of b ike storage.
the design is modular and involves 3 di f ferent bench shapes ; an outs ide cur ved [A] , ins ide cur ved [C ] and stra ight sec t ion [D]
the bench was to be profess ional ly f in ished with R hino L iner, a durable weatherproof coat ing.

the concept of the landform house projec t was to a l low for a focus on s i te and how contours and grade changes can inf luence the design of a home + studio. the arrangement of the programs of the house and cant i levered studio a l lows for a unique exper ience when navigat ing the struc ture. to enter the home, one passes under the cant i levered studio, bes ide the l iv ing room in a outs ide, yet sheltered space. the glaz ing f rom the studio above ex trudes downward to create this secret passage into the home. the l iv ing room then becomes a double heighted space, with a c lear v iew out ward to the rear, and a protec ted v iew from the publ ic s ide.
the cant i levered studio inher i ts the same view as the l iv ing room, and uses the house roof as i ts own pr ivate terrace space, which can be used to enter ta in c l ients. i t i s suppor ted struc tural ly by a s ingle concrete sta i r, and re inforced concrete f loors.
the f ront solar ium al lows for natural dayl ight and warming of the home through use of c lear and f rosted glass. the master bedroom balcony over looks the solar ium, and behind i t h ides the bedroom.
