• A measure of a student performance compared to other students in their class

• Calculated after every semester in grades 10-12

• Based on 4 core classes and 4 highest foreign

language semester grades

• Used to determine top 10% and quartiles for college admissions

graduation; however, many colleges will not accept it for admissions.

End of Course ExamsStudents must pass five end-of-course exams:

You must achieve 90% attendance!!

Only 4 unexcused absences are allowed in each class per semester

Once the school year starts, you must stay in your Pre-AP or AP class for two weeks before you can request a level

change. Level change requests WILL NOT be considered if you

have any missing work, including summer assignments.

Dual Credit vs. AP Courses• Dual credit ACC classes

• Taught by ACC professors either at Bowie or at an ACC campus• Students could earn both college and high school credit• Credit transfers to in-state public colleges/universities and some out

of state and private colleges/universities

• Dual Credit UT On ramps classes • Taught by Bowie teachers with special training from UT• Students can earn both college and high school credit.

• AP classes• Taught by teachers at Bowie using College Board curriculum• Option of taking an AP Exam in May; graded 1-5• A grade of 3, 4 or 5 on the AP exam may result in college credit (as

determined by college)

Both dual credit and AP are weighted on a 5.0 scale

Please Note!

• There is an extensive enrollment

process for students taking ACC dual credit classes for the first time.

• Students must complete the ACC application, show that they are “ready” to take college level classes (through testing), attend an advising/orientation session, and register for the particular classes they will be taking. See Ms. Valverde, our college and career counselor, in the back of the library for assistance with this process.

All 12th graders must take 6 - 8 classesMUST INCLUDE:1. English 4 2. Algebraic Reasoning, Alg II, Pre-Cal, AQR, Calculus, or Stats

ELECTIVE OPTIONS: 5-8. Four more classes such as:• Language Other Than English• PE or Athletics• Fine Art(s)• Career Technology Education Classes• Other Elective(s) or up to 2 off periods

Elective Selections► Select seven additional courses

in order of preference.

► You will only be scheduled in four electives. we will make our best effort to get you in your first four choices.

► Do not leave any boxes blank. If you do, we will choose your classes for you.

► If we need to drop a course to add another class (such as a support class), we will drop the lowest ranked scheduled course.

► You may only select one student sharing course, and it must be chosen before June 12th.

● Course verifications will be emailed later this semester. When they arrive, read and follow the directions carefully, review the courses listed to ensure that they are correct, and send it back if changes are necessary.

Ask for help and stay connected - Talk with friends, family, or religious organizations to reduce stress

Set priorities and boundaries - Decide what must get done and what can wait, and learn to say no to new tasks if they

are putting you into overload.

Stay positive - Note what you have accomplished at the end of the day, not what you have been unable to do

Exercise - Just 30 minutes per day of gentle walking can help boost mood and reduce stress

Seek help from an adult!
