Now that school is out it is time to take those long planned vacations. It is also time to start planning your pack’s fall membership drive. To ensure your unit has a well-planned membership drive, your district executive (Lynn Olson) will be scheduling a meeting with your pack committee chairman, membership chairman, and Cubmaster to devise a membership strategy and determine a date for your unit’s recruitment night. If you are one of those three pack leaders and have not contacted Lynn to set up a meeting date, please do so immediately. You can contact him at [email protected].

Commissioner’s Corner
Scouting teaches that “Every boy deserves a trained leader”. It’s no secret; the best units
are the ones with well-trained adult leaders. These units are stronger because trained
leaders have the knowledge and confidence to deliver a fun filled quality program to their
scouts. This training starts with simple on-line training. It takes very little time but the benefits
are great.
At this time only 21% of our adult leaders are trained. Some units have made good strides in
getting their units trained. I would like to recognize these units now.
Each of the following units is in the top 25% of their respective divisions.
The top Packs are 85, 2000, 456, 165, 365, 537, 266 and 62.
The top Troops are 356, 8, 62, 194, 78, 9 and 512.
The top Crews are 5771, 513, 514 and 525.
The top Teams are 513, 525, 514 and 524.
Please join me in congratulating these units. Let’s strive to insure
that all of our leaders are fully trained; our scouts deserve nothing less.

Newest Eagle Scouts
Congratulations to the newest Jamboree District Eagle Scouts who gave over 900 hours of
community service during their Eagle Projects!
Spencer Baron Hoover - Troop 404
Spencer designed and landscaped an unused and overgrown median at the intersection
of two streets in Victor, Colorado, creating a sculpture garden near the center of town.
Jacob Haden Groe - Troop 512
Jacob replaced the broken and weatherbattered east and west entry signs to the
community known as Badger Creek Ranch, near Hartsel, Colorado.
Theodore Henry Erler - Troop 70
Teddy created four “Welcome to Black Forest” road signs welcoming drivers to that
community. He replaced a weatherbeaten road sign of the same design and presented
the other three signs to the Black Forest 4H organization for future use.

The BFAS assists in education, disaster response, and works with many youth and volunteer groups. With your support, they will continue to make a difference in the lives of animals. They provide rescue operations, adoption programs, foster and sponsorship programs, student/horse education programs, and local and national rescue efforts. They work with local schools, scouts, and community corrections programs. We are always looking for more wonderful quality volunteers. 2015 Knights of the Roundtable Resident Camp
Here Ye! Here Ye! Calling all Webelos & Cub Scouts! The Knights of the Round table are awaiting your arrival August 2 or August 7 at glorious Camp Alexander located deep inside the 11 Mile Canyon. Your Adventure will progress as the weekend progresses. What rank will you become?
Squire: Squires served as assistants to knights both in the castle and on the battlefield. Baron : One of a class of tenants holding his rights and title by military or other honorable service directly from a feudal superior (as a king). Baronet : The holder of a rank of honor below a baron and above a knight. Knight : Knights were warriors who fought on horseback. In return for land, they pledged themselves as vassals to the king. Weekend opportunities: Swimming, Archery, BB's, Canoeing, Fishing, Hiking, Castle building, Cooking, & Catapult Design
DEN LEADER NOTE: We will have directions and supplies to build a large catapult (one that will launch water balloons at the castle they have built) but if you have time to research and want to have your boys build one you like better feel free to bring everything you will need just let us know. We will be happy to give you specs!

THE PIKE’S PEAK COUNCIL IS CURRENTLY RECRUITING YOUTH AND ADULTS FOR THE 2017 NATIONAL JAMBOREE
The 2017 National Jamboree will be held in West Virginia at the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve, July 19-28, 2017. It will include more than 30,000 Scouts from all across the United States and overseas. The Jamboree will feature canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, bouldering, skateboarding, BMX and biking, target sports, miles of zip lines, hiking and more!
In addition to attending the National Jamboree, The Pikes Peak Council Jamboree Troop and Crew will tour the east coast for about a week. Touring includes New York, NY; Boston, MA; Philadelphia, PA: Gettysburg, PA; Plymouth, MA; and Washington, D.C. Who is eligible?
Boy Scouts and Varsity Scouts who
• Are 11 and graduated from 6th grade or 12 years old by 19 July 2017
• First Class by 19 July 2017
• Have not reached their 18th birthday by 28 July 2017. Venturers who
• Are 13 and graduated from 8th grade or 14 years old by 19 July 2017
• Have not reached their 21st birthday by 28 July 2017. What are the costs? Approximately $3,450 per person payable in installments
The Pikes Peak Council is now accepting applications. To register complete the online application found at www.summitbsa.org/events/jamboree/jamboree-registration/ and the appropriate application at www.pikespeakbsa.org/News/2017NationalJamboree and turn them in to the council office with a $300 deposit. If you want more information before deciding to register, the sites above have information on the jamboree and the tour the Pikes Peak Council contingent will take. Glen Aspen Ranch – NYLT recently trained at Glen Aspen and later this summer the final weekend of Wood Badge Course will here too. Scouts and Staff are looking forward to some great youth and adult training. Woodland Park Utilities presented a revised plan to the City Council for the construction of a reservoir and we are Green Light to move for construction in 2017. Volunteers installed exit lights and a new yard light in the Pavilion to improve this multi-use facility. Campmasters still needed in August, September, and October.
Camp Alexander - A big push was made to get everything ready for camp to open and to get every building painted. Big shout out to Mark Howell for getting most of paint, stain, and brushed donated for this effort. JDons are being stucco coated and preserved. New latrines are going into Cheyenne, Sioux, and Lower Parking Lot. The lake has been overflowing as it has not done in many years. You can hear it from the Elks Lodge Porch. Trout Unlimited helped stock the lake with trout.
Volunteer Help and Equipment Glen Aspen - Carpenter or construction experience to insulate and install wall siding on the inside of the 2 restrooms and mudroom. Experienced sawyers needed to process some of the trees on the hill. Mike Dougall is always looking for help to start working on Trails. There is also a list of services and projects that can be adopted and done by a Volunteer. Pack 165 in Action Pack 165 has had a fantastic 2014-15 Scouting year! A few highlights that we’d like to share:
August: Pack picnic with a rain gutter regatta makes for a great afternoon of fun.
September: We had a Pack campout complete with hiking, fishing, games, and s’mores!
October: We did a service project for our charter organization on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.
November: We participated in the Veteran’s Day parade and participated in Operation Shoebox as a service project.
December: At our Pack meeting, our Cubmaster was the target of many a whipped cream pie!
February: Our Blue and Gold had an attendance of about 250 people, 8 boys Crossover into Troops, and our cake decorating contest had creative entries.
March: Our new derby track is fast and our cheers were loud.
April: At the Pack meeting some of our leaders did a funny skit and we had games to try outside.
May: We received our next rank neckerchiefs, slides and books in an outdoor ceremony. Half of our Pack went to Farish for a family campout with tent sites by the lake.
Summer: We have a number of activities planned including a mini golf night, swimming
and s’mores, and going to the Sky Sox game!
