Jaipur city is located in the middle portion of the Aravali rangers which is about 430m above sea level at a distance of 200 miles from Delhi. It lies in Eastern Rajasthan in the Banas river basin.

Jaipur was established by Sawai Jai Singh (1700-1743) in 1727. The city was designed by Sawai Jai Singh himself. The city planned in the gridiron pattern was built with extraordinary foresight and is probably the only 18th century walled city in India that can still cater to the present day pressures of vehicular traffic on roads.

The site selected for establishing the new capital of Jaipur was a valley located south of Amber and the plains beyond, a terrain that was the bed of a dried lake. There used to be dense forest cover to the north and the east of the city.

The physical constraints that informed the building of Jaipur city included the hills on the north that housed the fort of Jaigarh and the Amber palace beyond, and the hills on the east.

Map showing Jaipur in the Eastern part of Rajasthan To facilitate water supply to the new city, the Darbhavati river in the north was dammed to create the Jai Sagar and Man Sagar (that later housed the Jal Mahal) lakes. Later the Jhotwara river in the north-west was diverted through the Amani Shah Nallah and a number of canals were channelized through Brahmapuri and Jai Niwas to supply water to the city.

Imageability of Pink City JaipurThis is showing the imageability of pink city jaipur. The image of the city which includes five elements-

Paths –The network or lines for movement through urban complex are the most potent means by continuity. Such as: the streets, sidewalks, trails, and other channels in which people travel. There are two types of path , vehicular and pedestrian path which have been shown in the map.

Edges –Continuation of the same pattern or form. Example: boundaries such as walls, buildings, and shorelines. Two types of edges are there. Barrier edge which we can’t be able to cross, barrier for people and seam edge those we can enter. Here the barrier is the hill on north-west direction and seam can be the edge of the district or the path.

Districts – It has homogeneous character which is also visible in Jaipur map. A district can be divide in sub district .In jaipur, Some districts has been divide in sub districts.

Nodes – Strategic points of the city It may be focal points, intersections or concentration node which has the concentration of the activity. Some nodes are big and some are small, these depends on the intensity of the activity. It should be seen from a great distance.

Landmarks – Landmarks are some different points which can very easily identifiable by observer .It may be some tall height buildings or some special building with new different façade or some mountain etc. These five elements are interrelated to each other, they can’t be isolated from each other.
