Indiana College Application Day

Left: West Side High School JAG students are holding a poster they

created to support Indiana College Application day that took

place on Friday, October 23, 2015. Seniors were encouraged to

complete the “Common Application” that cover most Indiana col-

leges. Right: West Side High School JAG students are pictured in

the computer lab that was made available to them to complete

college applications on Indiana College Application Day.

The JAG students of Theodore Roosevelt

High School rewarded their hard work by

hosting a party for the JAG students to

come together and enjoy good food.

Students support Women’s Health Awareness Month-Breast Cancer

West Side High School JAG stu-dents showed their support by creating treat bags for Wom-en’s Health Awareness Month. The bags contained a Snickers bar, M&M’s, & mints with a small note that read “The an-

nual exam is nothing to SNICKER at, JAG wishes you M&M’s, many more years of

health and wellness.”

Students from East Chica-

go Central High School,

Calumet New Tech, and

A.K. Smith Career Center

created beautiful letters to

contribute to Girls Love

Mail, a place where the

gift of hand-written letters

are collected and sent to

newly diagnosed breast

cancer patients.

College Tour

The Knox High School JAG students took a tour of

Purdue University of Lafayette and stopped at

the local WorkOne office of Knox to learn more

about college and career readiness.

Chicago Basketball Legend-Ronnie

Fields, Speaks to MCHS Athletes

and JAG Students

Students were treated to a preview of

Ronnie Field’s documentary of his life

“Bounce Back” on 11/2/15. The documen-

tary highlighted the highs and lows of his

life along with his stellar basketball

moves. After turning his life around he

went on to play in leagues around the

world. He reminded them that perception

often turns into reality, so if they are really

interested they need to show up early and

stay late. He encouraged them to fight

when the odds were against them and get

an education.

Special Achievements

Congratulations to Jessica Macias for being in-vited to attend the prestigious Congress of Fu-ture Science and Technology Leaders in Boston, Massachusetts.

Yay! Torri Allison, Shambriel Byrd, Romiel Harris, Anisa Higginbotham, Gene Orzech, Yasmine Spicer, and Ladaisha Hodges are maintaining part-time jobs and good grades!

We’re proud of Loren Crawford and Catherine Torres recently represented AK Smith Career Center at the Indiana Health Occupations Stu-dents of America (HOSA) Conference on Octo-

What’s Next?

One focus this year is on hunger, and as part

of our community service we will have a

“Peanut Butter and Jam” collection at the AK

Smith Career Center and the Michigan City

High School.

Another activity will be college visits. So far,

we are planning on visiting Ivy Tech, Purdue

North Central, IUPUI, and IU Northwest.

The Career Association is responsible for

recruiting guest speakers based on students’

career interests. We are also looking forward

to a Region One Joint JAG I & I.
