TODAY1970

Our world renowned brand encompasses years of cutting edge design and technology and since 1956, the name has established itself as both innovator and inventor. The Jacuzzi story is a warming tale of sheerdetermination and hard work. Such focus, dedication and drive was fundamentally cultivated with family at

the heart. With 7 brothers, 6 sisters, 2 world wars and emigration, the founding Jacuzzi family spent theirlifetime exploring new ideas and experimenting with product designs to build a business.

EARLY 1900’S

The seven Jacuzzi brothers emigrated to California from Italy. The brothers made great strides in aviation byinventing and flying the first enclosed cabin monoplane.

1920’s

Their engineering skill and interest in hydraulics and the thermodynamics of fluids led them from the field of aviation to agriculture. Incorporating their hydraulicinsight, the Jacuzzi family later made notableadvancements in the agricultural pump industry.

1956

The family’s hydraulic know-how proved invaluable whenthe youngest brother created a portable hydrotherapypump. From that application, a small niche businessdeveloped. The family sold their portable pump, namedJ300, to hospitals and schools.

1968

The pump was later designed alongside the bath andnew exclusive jet technology took the pump idea to a newlevel. A mix of 50% air and 50% water, turning throughthese special jets provided an experience like never before.

1970

Larger units were created and built-in heating andfiltration systems were introduced to accommodategroups of bathers, thus creating the first hot tub.

HOW IT WORKSHydrotherapy is the combination of water, heat and airused to promote wellbeing. Water makes us buoyant,reducing body weight by 90%. This greatly eases stresson the body’s muscles and joints. Heat dilates blood vessels improving blood flow to sore or damaged tissue. The air propelled through the jets relaxes muscles and alleviates pressure on nerves.

JET PUMPS

Energy efficient pumps produce high performance jetpower without any excessive running costs. By creating a strong, reliable flow through every jet, the jet pumpscreate a vigorous massage action in the targeted areaswhile the circulation pump works steadily alongside it to ensure that clean, hot water is always ready for youto enjoy.

INSULATION

This is the best way to ensure that heat loss from yourhot tub is minimal and running costs are kept low. In addition to a tri-layer strong acrylic shell, all Jacuzzi®hot tubs combine two different types of foam to insulateall working components. High density foam surroundsthe equipment while lighter insulating foam, betweenthe interior and the cabinet, helps conserve energy.

Our new J-LX Collection also features a foam board wall that sits just inside the cabinet, which furtherreduces heat loss. In 2011, we also launch SmartSealTM.This is a third layer of insulation* made from recycledblue jean material that is environmentally friendly. This adds further protection against moisture, mouldand also reduces noise.

Why blue jeans? It has proven performance in motor vehicle, aircraft, appliances, building and other industries. It is also ideal for our increasingly colder winters. * SmartsealTM is included as standard on all J400 series hot tubs.

We use efficient jet pumps and dedicated circulation pumps to provide an entire energy-efficient system that powers the jets and the water features. The control system senses the water temperature

and automatically ensures that it is controlled to the desired comfort level. The quiet-running pumps allow you to enjoy the refreshing and soothing sounds of moving water,

from inside and outside of your hot tub.

CIRCULATION PUMPS

All our circulation pumps are engineered to heat, filter and sanitise in a highly efficient way. The circulation pumps also transfer heat created by the motor to the water, keeping it warmer longer andadding further to cost savings.

All Jacuzzi® hot tubs feature an easy to use control panelthat lets you maximise energy savings with preciseprogramming of filtration cycles and temperature ranges.

Operation is simple. You choose the ideal temperature,set it and your hot tub is ready for you at any time. The control panel allows you to lock in your settings too which prevents unauthorised access.

HOT TUB FILTERS:

Filtration systems are not all the same. Neither are allfilters. Don’t be fooled by “generic replacement filters” or using “imitations” instead of genuine Jacuzzi®

approved hot tub filters.

Non-genuine hot tub filters may be less expensive, but using them could prove to be very costly to you interms of performance and overall value.

Your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub is an investment, and like anyinvestment, proper and regular maintenance of your hot tub will help retain its beauty and performance.

Our hot tub retailers can help in recommending whichfilter is best for your hot tub, or you can use the chart onpage 81. Jacuzzi® approved filters are available at allJacuzzi hot tub retailers.


RUNNING COSTS

Hot tubs remain connected to the mains, keepingwater warm, on standby all year. It’s little wonderthen that new hot tub customers worry that their new investment will cost a lot to run. But you canrelax, good hot tubs will have several featuresdesigned to maintain heat and keep maintenancecosts to a minimum.

In 2008, we carried out some independent researchwith a UK agency, testing some of hot tubs toestablish a running cost guide for Jacuzzi® hot tubs in the UK.

Our energy usage calculations include initiallyheating the tub to 38°C four times a year,maintaining it at 38°C with allowances for minimalheat loss through the shell, cover and via evaporationplus the energy used to power pumps and filters.

Since this study was carried out, we have furtherimproved some of our insulating materials in Jacuzzi®hot tubs, so these indicative costs are likely to beslightly reduced.

Energy efficiency was listed as the number onedesirable hot tub feature. Both spas in the new J-LXcollection save more on operating costs than anyother hot tub in their class.

We have built a closed loop system to recycle virtuallyall of the water we use for testing our hot tubs.

Excess acrylic from our hot tub shells is ground up andrecycled for other products such as industrial cleaningagents.

Our electronics do not contain lead and are non-toxic.This allows for safe disposal at the end of their lifecycle.

Using chemicals correctly will not only help you to enjoy your Jacuzzi® hot tub safely, but ensureswater is cleaner for longer, making your tub last longer. The following pages introduce you to basicchemical maintenance and cleaning routines to help you chemically treat your hot tub safely.

Due to the fact that hot tub water is warm, the chemical balance can alter easily, so it is important totest your hot tub water every day and if necessary, chemically adjust it to restore the water balance.

KEEPING YOUR TUB FREE FROM BACTERIA

SANITISATION

A sanitiser is a disinfectant chemical that is added to hot tubwater to kill bacteria and keep it safe for bathers to sit in.The most popular (and strongest) sanitiser is chlorine.

Another popular choice is Bromine, which is less harsh tosensitive skin and eyes. Most sanitisers are available to buyas granules or tablets. Tablets must be used with a slowrelease dispenser. Oxidiser is a natural sanitiser based onactive oxygen and some people find this non-harmfuloption suits them best. It is generally recommended that ashock dose of chlorine is periodically used to make sure thatbacteria is controlled effectively this way.

INTRODUCING SOME CHEMICAL TERMS BEFORE YOU GET STARTED:

MAINTAINING WATER BALANCE

PH - This is the term used to indicate whether the water is acidic or alkaline. It uses a scale of 0-14 where 7 is neutral. 7.2-7.4 is ideal for hot tubs.

SHOCK DOSING - This requires raising the sanitisation levels usually to instantly deal with water problems.A shock of Chlorine or Oxidiser/Non Chlorine shock can beused, when the main sanitiser is Chlorine or Bromine. Ifthe main sanitiser is Oxidiser, chlorine can be used as ashock solution.

ALKALINITY - This refers to the measure of alkaline salts affecting the balance of the water. Alkalinity alsoaffects water hardness, so it’s important to measure thewater balance accurately to avoid scaling.

HARDNESS - This refers to the measure of calcium salts affecting the balance of the water. It helps to determinehow corrosive or scale-forming the water is.TIP

Encouraging every one to shower before using your hot tub helps keep the water cleaner for longer, meaning you should use fewer chemicals.

WATER TREATMENTDAILY TESTS

Always treat your hot tub after use and never immediately before. 1. Test for sanitiser daily and test again after use. The amount of sanitiser needed will vary depending

on the size of the hot tub, number of bathers and the temperature of the water.

2. Always check the pH levels – if the pH is incorrect (too alkaline or too acidic) it can lead to discomfort and poor disinfection.

JACUZZI® CHEMICALS RANGE

JACUZZI® CHLORINE GRANULES 55%Use Jacuzzi® Chlorine Granules to keep your hot tub water clean and bacteria free. Chlorine is a strong sanitiser recommended for regular hot tub use.

JACUZZI® OXIDISERUse Jacuzzi® Oxidiser (Non Chlorine) as a basic sanitiser to keep your hot tub water free from bacteria. It can alsobe used as a shock dose with other sanitisation. Jacuzzi®Oxidiser is based on active oxygen, a natural sanitiser. It is still recommended that a little Chlorine or Bromine,used as a shock dose, is periodically used to keep bacteria away.

JACUZZI® BROMINE TABLETSUse Jacuzzi® Bromine Tablets to keep your hot tub waterclean and bacteria free. Bromine is less harsh on sensitiveskin and eyes, but is also an effective sanitiser. Tablets must always be used with a dispenser.

JACUZZI® pH+Jacuzzi® pH+ will be required if the pH level of the hot tubwater is too low (too acidic).

JACUZZI® pH–Jacuzzi® pH- will be required if the pH level of the hot tubwater is too high (too alkaline).

JACUZZI® HARDNESS INCREASERTo inhibit corrosion, it is generally beneficial to have a highcalcium hardness level. Use Jacuzzi® Hardness Increaser to raise hardness levels accordingly, especially in soft water areas.

JACUZZI® NO FOAMCosmetics, oils and various forms of pollution all contribute tothe production of foam within a hot tub when air is beingintroduced. Jacuzzi® No Foam can be used as a weeklytreatment to prevent foam from starting.

TIPOnly when the chemicals have had timeto dissolve and circulate within the hot tubis it safe to enter.


JACUZZI® CHEMICALS RANGE

JACUZZI® SPA CLEARJacuzzi® Spa Clear is a clarifier, meaning that it clears hot tub water when it gets murky. It is a liquid that is added to hot tub water to aid filtration and is generally suitable for both cartridge and sand filters.

JACUZZI® FILTER CLEANERA clogged filter can lead to poor water quality. Liquid Cartridge Cleaner is a traditional liquid cleaner which is very effective in use. Use monthly to avoid build up.

JACUZZI® SPA POLISHHelps to maintain the shine of your hot tub and to clean the heat retention cover.

JACUZZI® NO SCALEUsed on a regular basis, Jacuzzi® No Scale restricts the build up of scale and helps maintain swivelling water jets.

JACUZZI® EVERYDAY CLEANERAs the name suggests, Jacuzzi® Everyday Cleaner is effective in cleaning the tide line around a hot tub. This is a pH neutral product, ready to use from its spray bottle and can be used everyday if required.

JACUZZI® ALGAECIDEUsed weekly, Jacuzzi® Algaecide, is an effective means of preventing algal growth when used in conjunction with a sanitiser.

JACUZZI® CHEMICALS RANGE DO’S AND DONT’S

Always read the label on each product andfollow the instructions.

Never mix chemicals.

Use clean containers for pre dissolvingchemicals.

If diluting chemicals, fill container with waterand add the chemical to the water, never theother way around. Mix thoroughly to dissolve.

Try to avoid spills but in such an event useclean dry equipment to clear up. The bestplace to dispose of the spill could be in the hot tub but only if a small quantity ofchemical is involved.

Do not add chemicals to the hot tub when it is in use.

Use chemicals in a well ventilated area. Beware of strong winds when using powders.

Keep chemicals away from children andanimals.

Limescale, which forms on the side of a hot tub(like the inside of a kettle) if left unseen, can cause damage to the-jets. Use Jacuzzi®No Scale to prevent the build up of limescale.

Always shower before using your Jacuzzi®hot tub. This helps keep your tub water cleaner for longer.

TIPIt is a good idea to have a spare filter to use whilst one is being cleaned.
