  • 1. Geometry In the Real World Jacob Pence Block 1 12/11/09

2. Point Point -somethingthat has position but not extension, as the intersection of two lines. 3.

  • Line - a part cut off from a figure, esp. a circular or spherical one, by a line or plane, as a part of a circular area contained by an arc and its chord or by two parallel lines or planes.

Line(Segment) 4. Plane

  • Plane - a surface generated by a straight line moving at a constant velocity with respect to a fixed point.

5. Angle

  • Angle - the space within two lines or three or more planes diverging from a common point, or within two planes diverging from a common line.

6. Perpendicular Lines Perpendicular Line - meeting of a given line at right angles. 7. Parallel Lines

  • Parallel Lines - lying in the same plane but never meeting no matter how far extended.

8. Triangle

  • Triangle - a closed plane figure having three sides and three angles

9. Right Triangle

  • Right Triangle - a triangle having a right angle

10. Pentagon

  • Pentagon - a polygon having five angles and five sides

11. Hexagon

  • Hexagon - a polygon having six angles and six sides

12. Square

  • Square - a rectangle having all four sides of equal length

13. Rectangle

  • Rectangle - a parallelogram having four right angles

14. Trapezoid

  • Trapezoid - a quadrilateral plane figure having two parallel and two nonparallel sides.

15. Parallelogram

  • Parallelogram - a quadrilateral having both pairs of opposite sides parallel to each other.

16. Circle

  • Circle - a closed plane curve consisting of all points at a given distance from a point within it called the center

17. Cylinder

  • Cylinder - a surface or solid bounded by two parallel planes and generated by a straight line moving parallel to the given planes and tracing a curve bounded by the planes and lying in a plane perpendicular or oblique to the given planes.

18. Sphere

  • Sphere - a solid geometric figure generated by the revolution of a semicircle about its diameter; a round body whose surface is at all points equidistant from the center.

19. Triangular Prism

  • Triangular Prism - a prism whose bases are triangles

20. Crescent

  • Crescent - a shape resembling a segment of a ring tapering to points at the ends
