PERSONAL STATEMENT

Before I considered dedicating my life to understanding the brain and the mechanisms that give rise to

cognition, I was deeply intrigued by music and its effect on audiences. However, I lacked formal instruction for

much of my exploration of music. By teaching myself the fundamentals of music theory and songwriting, I began to

intimately grasp the interplay between the perception of sound and emotion. The neural aspects of this interaction

became apparent only after my introduction to neuroscience and audio logy at the University of Florida. Ever since

then, I have been fueled by an intense desire to study the effects that music can have on cognition and the brain.

I am searching for a position that would allow me to assist a laboratory that studies the neural components

of music exposure, perception, enjoyment, and performance, optimally with a potential for developing my own

research ideas.
