the Jack product.In this release you will find completely revised human figures in both base and casual clothing styles.These figures can be scaled using a new scaling approach which offers a smoother transition between body areas and allows for better shape representation. Version 7.0 has a number of powerful new features including; a new look and feel to the user interface, new anthropometric databases, enhanced posturing capability, wrist strength evaluation capability, expanded functionalities within the Task Simulation Builder, and improved JT loading and JT export functionality. Included on the Jack 7.0 installation CD are these separately licensed add-on application toolkits:Occupant Packaging Toolkit (OPT) for version 7.0 Task Analysis Toolkit (TAT) for version 7.0 Motion Capture Toolkit for version 7.0 3D Bodyscan Module for version 7.0 Important Announcements Minimum Screen ResolutionWhile Jack will display on lower resolution screens, a minimum of 1280 x 1024 is recommended for optimal display.This is the minimum resolution supported for v7.0. User Settings If you have installed an Alpha/Beta version of Jack v7.0 in the past, you may find that some settings are remembered by the application.These settings are stored in the jk4.install file and the .jkrc file, both within the home directory.Because development in v7.0 has been ongoing, some past settings will no longer be relevant, and must be removed. It is recommended that you delete these 2 files each time you install a new copy of Jack v7.0.To locate these files go to:o$HOME/-> delete jk4.o$HOME/jack_7.0/-> delete .jkrc To determine your Home directory location for Jack, scroll through your Jack 7.0 window to find the home directory location: 6 Legacy Translators With the release of v6.1 we announced that the legacy IGES and VRML translators would be removed from the product.However, in order to support legacy workflows which still make use of these translators, we have chosen to keep them available in v7.0.Please note that these translators are provided as is: we are no longer able to provide any updates to them.It is recommended that JT import/open and JT export (new for v7.0) be used to manage your data. 7 New and Improved Feature Details for v7.0 New Human Figures with an Improved Approach to Scaling In this release you will find completely revised human figures, which include clothing, shoes and new hair for Jill.There are 2 variants of the figure, a Base male and female, who are wearing form fitting outfits, and Clothed figures that include shoes, pants, and shirts. The clothed figures have been set as the default figures and can be accessed by clicking on the Create default male/female icons along the toolbar: The base figures can be found in the Human Library: Human-> Create -> Human from Library If you wish to change the skin, hair or clothing colors on your figures, this can be done by right clicking on the human in the Jack scene, selecting Properties and going to the Materials tab.Chose the material you would like to change from the list (ie. Pants), and click on Properties to bring up the color palette.7.0 Figure Scaling The human scaling approach has been enhanced for the v7.0 figures to better represent various body shapes. Specifically you will notice the addition of a new slider on the scaling dialog.This slider allows you to modify the body weight distribution of your figure by setting the waist to hip circumference ratio (WHR). 8 The updated scaling dialog can be seen below: To measure Waist to Hip Ratio, it is generally suggested that you measure waist circumference at the smallest part of the waist, and hip circumference at the largest part of the hips, over the buttocks.These values are then divided to produce a Waist to Hip Ratio.However, in cases where individuals have large midsections or bellies, the waist circumference should be measured around the largest part of the belly. Sample Calculation: Waist Circumference: 33 inches Hip Circumference: 47 inches Notes: a.The Waist to Hip Ratio slider is only active for v7.0 figure scaling.All legacy figures will continue to scale using the same methods as in previous versions of Jack. This is to ensure that workflows which rely on older figures (and scaling) are not disrupted.b.The first time you scale a v7.0 figure, you may notice that there is a slight delay during which the scaling infrastructure is initialized for that figure. Subsequent scaling operations performed for that figure require only a short amount of time.The same delay will occur when loading saved environments with previously scaled figures. c.If you are using a machine with low memory, try checking the Conserve memory during anthropometric scaling check box in System Defaults->UI dialog. This will reduce the memory foot print of scaling operations.33/47 = 0.70 WHR Slider for v7.0 figures 9 d.It is generally not recommended to use the Anthropometric Human Copy feature between figure versions. However, if you do try to copy anthropometry between figure versions, the following copy rules will be applied:Copy Source Copy TargetAnthropometric dimensions to be copied between figures v70-base/clothed v70-base/clothed allv6x-default/segmentedv70-base/clothed link lengthsv6x-default/segmentedv6x-default/segmentedallv70-base/clothed v6x-default not supportedv70-base/clothed v6x-segmented link lengths Anthropometric Databases: German and Indian New for 7.0, additional anthropometric databases can be used to scale Jack and Jill.This includes the ability to represent both the Asian Indian and German populations. Asian Indian Anthropometric Database: Indian Anthropometric Dimensions For Ergonomic Design Practice, Ahmedabad, National Institute of Design - 1997 German Anthropometric Database: DIN 33402: German Industry Standard, March 2008 These databases can be accessed from the traditional scaling dialogs (example shown below) Scaling Dialog (showing new databases) 10 Task Analysis Toolkit Wrist Strength Analysis (SSP and ForceSolver) The Task Analysis toolkit has been expanded to include wrist strength equations from the University of Michigans Static Strength Posture Prediction program (http://www.engin.umich.edu/dept/ioe/3DSSPP/).These equations have been incorporated into the existing Static Strength Prediction (SSP) and ForceSolver Analysis tools. Strength capabilities for wrist flexion/extension, supination/pronation and ulnar/radial deviation can now be evaluated to determine the percentage of the population capable of performing a task.The SSP reports and graphs have been updated to include wrist strength. The ForceSolver tool will also now consider wrist strength when solving for the maximum acceptable hand forces for the specified task parameters. V7.0 Static Strength Prediction Summary 11 V7.0 ForceSolver User Interface, including data for wrist strength TSB Enhancements Apply_Force Task: Force Influenced Reach The Apply_Force task was introduced to TSB in version 6.1 to specify when and for how long a force should be applied during a simulation.While object weights and forces were transferred to the human during this time, the figures posture was not modified to reflect the magnitude of the force they were exerting.New for 7.0, the Apply_Force task takes into account the level of force exertion at the hands to more realistically pose the body. The force-influenced posturing reach algorithms use empirical models from the HUMOSIM research effort at the University of Michigan. 12 An explanation of how to use the Apply_Force task options to influence your workers pose can be found here:

Task Options: Specify Hand(s) for Get and Apply_Force Both the Get and Apply_Force tasks have been updated to include an Options tab.In this tab, the user can now specify which hand(s) they would like to perform the task.If no hand option is specified, TSB will use its internal solvers to decide on the most appropriate hand(s) for the task. If the hand option is not defined by the user, but rather solved by TSB, the user can still go back to the Options tab, after the simulation has been executed, to see what TSB selected.At this point, you can also choose to override the side, and re-execute your simulation. Select 1 or more forces to be considered during the Apply_Force task If the object weight is being supported by your worker, check the box to include it as part of the posture prediction. Define the task duration (in seconds) Click here if you would like the workers posture to adjust according to the hand forces.(If unchecked, the Apply_Force task will not modify the figures pose) Foot position can also be predicted during an Apply_Force task, based on the level of hand exertion.Click here to predict foot locations. 13 An explanation of how to use the Options tab to select your preferred hand side can be found here:

Ergonomic Reporting Ergonomic reporting within TSB now allows you to automatically generate real-time ergonomic reports for the Static Strength Prediction and Low Back Analysis tools.Results are generated for each frame of the TSB simulation to assess performance at each point in time.The Task and Action descriptions are also included in the report to help you easily interpret what is happening at each frame.Reports are saved in .csv format, which can be opened in another tool such as Microsoft Excel, where the data can be viewed, graphed, and analyzed. Under Specify, check Use Hand(s) to enable hand selection From the drop down menu, choose which hand(s) you would like to perform the task. 14 In the TSB Results menu, you will find a new submenu called Create Ergonomic Report. When opened, you will see the following dialog: Note: To access the Ergonomic Reporting functionality, a TAT license is required.Non-Zero Elevation Support In past versions of Jack, TSB simulations could only be created with humans working on the ground plane. In v 7.0, humans can be set to any elevation above or below the ground plane, and task simulations can be developed at this non-zero elevation.This is useful in scenarios where you may have multiple workers in a scene, with one working on a 2nd storey and the other at ground level. To set a non-zero elevation, move your figure to the desired starting location and click on the Set Initial Context option along the toolbar. Select a human from the scene Insert a title for your report (or keep the default) Enter relevant information to be included in your report SSP: Select which joints you would like to print results for, and which data should be included in your report. Save the report to a preferred location. Click on the LBA tab to save a Low Back Analysis Report, and to select which data to include in the report. 15 JT Export New for 7.0, figures and scenes can be exports as JT. This option can be found under File -> Export -> JT. Notes:a)Texture mapping is not supported (ie, the psurf will export but without any texture) b)Export is NOT supported for: 6.0/6.1 smoothskin human figures, or JT figuresJT Loading ImprovementsFor this release, several JT loading related PRs have been addressed. In general this should improve the way JT data is handled by Jack. A complete list of all PR fixes has been included later in this document.Re-root Geometry Center: Sometimes geometry is loaded into Jack in an undesirable location, or with a root site that is offset from the geometry center.To help alleviate some of the problems associated with unwanted JT loading parameters, the default method of JT loading has been updated so the geometry center is re-rooted upon load.That is, when a JT file is loaded, a new root site called "root_override" is created and placed at the center of the figure's bounding box.This feature is particularly useful for JT geometry that is defined far from the origin. After centering the root the geometry can be moved/snapped to the desired location, rotated around its axes using the arrow keys, etc.This also makes it much easier to use these objects in TSB.This option is enabled by default. To disable, go to Edit-> System Defaults-> JT Options and uncheck Re-root to Geometry Center. This feature does not apply to JT files loaded as part of an environment file, by design, to avoid disrupting entities in the scene (constraints, etc.). The "Center Figure Root" tool (described below) should be used for existing environments. Single Figure will export a selected figure as a single part.Scene export will export all relevant figures in a scene as several parts of a monolithic .jt file 16 Center Figure Root Dialog This tool was designed to assist users in rerooting a geometry center, in scenarios where the default JT load option (described above) does not apply. For example, imported (rather than directly loaded) JT data, as well as JTs loaded as part of an environment or TSB (.tsf) file can be rerooted using this option.Non-JT data, such as psurfs can also be rerooted. This option is available via the main menu (Object > Center Figure Root), or by right clicking on a piece of geometry in the Jack scene or Object Hierarchy. Usage Details:The "root_override" site will be deleted if Undo is used after the command. If the command is invoked multiple times the "root_override" site will be moved - additional sites will not be added.Updated User Interface You will notice that v7.0 has a new look and feel to the User Interface. Jack has been updated to use windows native widgets wherever possible.This change will also ensure that your user font settings are respected. The following library upgrades occurred for v7.0: oTcl/Tk is now at version 8.5.8oPython is now at version 2.6.6 Note: If you write scripts or modules to work with Jack, these upgrades may impact you. 17 Direct Model Upgrade to v 7.3This release of Jack has been upgraded to DirectModel 7.3.This allows for JT v9.4 files to be read.Jack now also has the ability to make use of the Graphics Processor Unit (GPU) for certain computations. In particular, the smooth-skin deformation can be pushed to the GPU. As this is a fairly costly computation, but highly parallel in nature, switching to the GPU can significantly improve performance, especially in situations where the main processor (CPU) is tied up with other computations.By default this ability is disabled, however users are strongly encouraged to give it a try by enabling it via System Defaults->Graphics->Enable Shaders. Performance will vary. Systems with older or low end graphics cards, such as those found in laptops, are likely to see performance degradations. Systems with certain high-end/multi-core CPUs may not see any performance gains. The shading model is slightly different when this setting is enabled; this will be addressed in a future release.When shaders are enabled, users are encouraged to remain in VCO mode. This is set by default, but it can otherwise be achieved by using the TCL console and typing: jiViewer_setRenderOpt [jiViewer_current] 3If you switch to other render modes while shaders are enabled, artifacts may appear. The following rendering modes are available and can be set in the TCL console by typing:jiViewer_setRenderOpt [jiViewer_current] [0/1/2/3]Where the values are:0 1 2 3DisplayList Mode Index ModeVBO Mode(OpenGL Vertex Buffer Objects) VCO Mode(Vertex Cache optimized OpenGL Vertex Buffer Objects) Fastest Render PerformanceStandard PerformanceRandom Render PerformanceFaster to Fastest Render Performance usage3x memory usagestandard memory usage1x to 2x memory usage1x to 2x memory usage Updated Documentation for TSB, TAT and OPT The user documents for TSB, TAT and OPT have been updated to incorporate many of the recent enhancements and changes to the Jack software. 18 Modules Updated Human Posture ToolThe Human Posturing Tool (HPT) can account for hand force exertions and predict postures accordingly. HPT allows you to select where and how the figure will position their hands and feet, a visual target to stay focused on, and the forces acting on the figures hands. These inputs are used to predict the posture a human would assume and position the figure accordingly. In v6.1 the first iteration of HPT was released.However, in v6.1 only vertical or gravitational hand loads are considered.For the current release, the HPT includes a number of significant enhancements, including the ability to account for hand exertions in any direction, as well as the ability to predict foot location based on the required force exertion. This module can be accessed from: Modules -> Plug Ins, and browsing to HumanPosturing in the Registered Modules menu. Some of the new feature highlights are described below, however, full documentation and usage steps, can be found by clicking on the Usage button in the bottom right corner of the Human Posturing Tool dialogue. A Foot Restriction Zone can be loaded so when foot positions are predicted, the posture tool will keep within the boundaries of this zone.Using the Size options, you can increase or decrease the area of this zone. Hand forces can be applied to the palmcenter site, in any direction.These forces will be considered when predicting the figures pose. Click on Usage to review the full help documentation for this module. 19 Deleted Modules in 7.0: In the 6.1 release notes we announced that the following outdated modules would be deleted for v70.Thus, the modules plug-in library has been cleaned up by eliminating: -Advanced Command Generator,-Data Reporter,-Material Replace, -Retarget Channelset,-Decimate PRs and fixes Jack Keybindings can now be set for toggle/checkbutton menu items (e.g. Object Hierarchy). (PRs 5032878, 5226025)Browsing to the desktop in the Multiload dialog no longer causes an error. (PR 5691623)Problem where both "save to archive" types could be selected at the same time has been fixed. (PR 5349517)Mouse scroll wheels now work with directory browsers and other scrolled areas. (PR 5349499)Jack will now automatically use the user's default browser for all HTML/Web content. (PRs 2113040, 4975927)The directory browser window used in the UI has been replaced with a native Windows directory browser. (PR 5219885)Specific Platform NotesWindows 7, Vista and XP NVidia graphics cards may also demonstrate problems generating antialiased screen capture images - the resulting output images will not have antialiasing applied. This can be corrected by going in to the advanced graphics settings of the driver and setting "Buffer Flipping 21 Mode" to "Use block transfer". Be sure to quit Jack and restart after making this change. This is a persistent setting and will only need to be done once.Testing was performed on Win XP and Win7 32 and 64 bit. While dual core machines have not been separately certified, there are no known issues with these machinesMiscellaneous Notes (Licensing) Jack 7.0 uses the Siemens PLM Common Licensing system to simplify licensing and provide maximum compatibility with other Siemens PLM Software tools. This uses FLEXlm so it should be very familiar to existing Jack users; however, a new license file will be required when upgrading from previous versions of Jack. You will receive a new license file via an email from Siemens PLM. This email will automatically be sent to the contact listed with your purchase information in our database. If you do not receive a license, please contact your account representative. Alternatively, if you have your sold-to number, you can call 800-995-0000 to verify that the information in our records is correct. A remote server can be specified by editing this file and replacing "localhost" with the license server's hostname.
