JOE LYMAN Services were Sunday in Community

Church, for F rancis Joseph Lyman, 82, of Alpine Village, who died on the Wednesday. Cremation followed with burial in F t. Rosecrans National Ceme­tery, Lakeside F uneral Chapel in charge.

The Lymans had lived here nine years, coming from New Mexico where they resided for 30 years. He was a native of Kenosha, Wisc. , had been a civil engineer, later a farmer.

Survivors, besides the widow, two sisters, Elizabeth Lyman and Emily , in Kenosha. He was a member of the Kiwanis, Acacia Club, L ively Oaks, Veteran of W WI, and a trustee of Com­munity Church. Donations for flowers were sent to the heart fund.

MRS. ANJANETTE LITTLE Another Alpine pioneer has departed her beloved community, Mrs. Anjan­ette G. Little, 89, of Japatul Road, who died Sunday in a convalescent hos­pital in EC. Service was Wednesday in Paris Mortuary Chapel. She had been ailing since before Christmas, was hospitalized April 3. Cremation follow­ed. Mrs. Little would have been 90 in a few days. She was born in Hulburd Grove, Descanso, daughter of the late Mr, and Mrs. John Gregory, early day ranchers. Her husband, Guy Little, a horticulturist, died some years ago. They had lived on Japatul Road since 1 918, where they cultivated vineyards and orchards, raised milk and meat goats. For some time they ran the winery here for Mr. and Mrs. H a r o 1 d F legal, now the site of Alpine Village. Until recently she had maintained a branch county library in her home, which was also a polling place in elec ­tions. Only known survivors , a nephew, Clyde Jones, of LA, and another else­where. Alpine needs a public swimpool.

We were certainly proud of our school last week when unamiously we voted to stay open during Gov. Regan's 4-day shutdown to curb campus dis­turbances. We have had some demon­strations but after President Burnham talked to us, we were only too glad to be one of two schools in SD County to remain open and do so without in­cident. The Scout Fair in Del Mar was simply fabulous with probably every Scout in the organization there. It was so crowded you had to weave your way through the kids to see the displays and all of the interesting things they had. We thoroughly enjoyed it, had a ball. If you tiaven't seen the art show in Fashion Valley, don't miss it. It is r.--------------�

simply unbelievable to see the creat­ive ability of people, and a lot of them were young. We watched in won­derment as a young artist made glass figureines out of molten glass rods. A nother boy made unusual clocks out of burnt wood using horse shoe nails for numbers on the dial and other un­usual things. We could have spent the day looking at all of the many ways people use scraps of metal, wood, and old cars to create beautiful works of art. We don' t know how long this dis­play will be there, but don't miss it. George Buell has been accepted by Biola University in La Mirade to attend the fall session. We stopped by Mary Hollywood's Saturday to see her and learned she was in Ireland on a visit, will be home next week. She used to live here, ran the rest home on Alpine Heights road for years. Mike Scully got appointed by John Stull to attend tfie California Maritime Acadamy in Vallejo. He starts classes Aug. 11, is thrilled with the appoint­ment. He took tests and was interview­ed and investigated before being ac­cepted. It is an honor and his parents are quite proud of him. The same day he received his appointment word came from his frother F rank serving in Vietnam with the Marines that he fiad made corporal. MRS. NASON CHORAL PRESIDENT The SD Choral Club will have in­stallation of officers in the King's Inn at a luncheon next Thursday, at which Mrs. Alexander Nason of the Highlands, will become president. Mrs. Ruoy Best of Vista Alpine is also an active mem­ber, will take part in an original parody as part of the entertainment.

An interesting open house, art & hobby show , will be on at Conservation Camp Cima, 13 miles south of Julian this Sunday, from 10 till 2. The public is invited to inspect this facility run by the state. F irefighting will be one fea­ture, as inmates are trained in this. DR. FRANK J. BORNOWSKI D.C.

DESCANSO DIGEST Old boys can still be boys ! For Bill C?charan offered to help Ron Blodgett with the Scouts, said he would like to t ake the lads on a hike just to see if he could still do it. Bill is the youngest 73 around, and if he does take them out, they'll have to hustle to keep up with him. The Scout program was in a bit of a bind last week, but due to some really public spirited citizens, it is back on its feet and making good. Remember, our manpower comes from boy power ! This week will give you a few points on one of the reasons your horse rubs the skin off his neck or other parks of his body. If you notice your animal rubbing a lot and scratching be sure to check for lice. The neck, mane and back parts are the most frequently infested. Lice are small parasites that live on the skin surfact and will cause the loss of hair due to rubbing. If you run your hand along the place with the hair rub­bed off you will sometimes see the creatures imbedded in the skin. Animals with long hair that are not groomed properly or not at all are the most susc�ptible. Yo u can buy a disinfectant and bathe your pet with this. If you buy a horse that has lice be sure to segregate him and get rid �f the pests fast. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Your Editorial concerning the un­fairness of some of the zoning laws, and citing as an example the Naud 'trucking Co. on the corner of Arnold and Petra opens the door for a presenta­tion of some views of the majority of Oak Glen homeowners, as evidenced at the recent hearing before the Plan­ning Commission, at which time the Naud rezoning request was denied. This area was zoned 1-A more than two years before the N auds purchased . their property here. Several new fami­lies have either bought homes or pro­perty to build upon with the under­standing that the Zoning was 1-A. We ao not understana why anyone would move into a community and ex­pect to have one particular plot re­zoned just for their own selfish wishes, and especially to ask for an industrial zoning (M-2) in this agricultural area, and thus becoming an annoyance to everyone else. These trucks are a definite traffic hazard as they are park­ed on both sides of Arnold Way at night and on weekends; the emire neighbor­hood is awakened at 5: 30 each morn­ing when these truck engines are warm­ed up before leaving; Saturdays and Sundays are filled with constant noise of mechanical work in servicing these trucks; and then, also, there is the extreme fire hazard caused by the storage of large quantitie� of fuel a�d tires, as well as the welding operations in the maintenance of these large earth-moving trucks. For obvious reasons, I must ask that my name be withheld. Note- We talked to Mrs. Naud who said they bought the place as the realtor said it was unzoned, which they be­lieved. They store no fuel but keep it on a rented lot in EC. Welding is electric, noiseless. And parking on the road is legal. Furthermore none has complained to Nauds who had a peti­tion signed by 51 in favor of their operation. -Ed
