Expulsion of the Acadians
After France lost the territory of Acadia to Britain, Britain renamed the land Nova Scotia, and forced all of the French, Acadian farmers to leave their land, and move to other parts of the world.
The Royal Proclamation
Shortly after taking possession of Canada, Britain signs the Royal Proclamation to govern the territory. The Proclamation attempts to assimilate French Canadiens, while at the same time granting First Nations Indian Territory.
The Seven Years War
The first global war fought between Britain and France. France will eventually be defeated in the war, and will be forced to surrender all of the territory in Canada to Britain. The end of the war will also leave Britain in great debt.
The War of Spanish Succession
A major war fought between Britain and France for the kingdom of Spain. France lost the war and was forced to surrender the territory of Acadia to Britain. Britain will later rename this territory Nova Scotia.
Treaty of Paris
Ends the Seven Years War, and forces France to surrender the territory of New France (Canada) to Britain.
Treaty of Utrecht
Ends the war of Spanish Succession, and forces France to surrender the territory of Acadia to Britain. Britain will rename this territory Nova Scotia.

Battle of the Plains of Abraham
The winning battle in North America during the Seven Years War. The battle lasts for about 15 min, and results in the French loss of the fortress of Quebec. Both the British and French generals die in the battle.
Pontiac’s Rebellion
Angered at the British for moving onto First Nations land following the defeat of the French, war Chief Pontiac gathers many First Nations tribes together, and starts a rebellion against the British.
The American Revolution
Upset at the high taxes given by Britain in order to pay off their debt, the 13 Colonies rebelled against the British Empire and created the United States of America. The British promise the Canadiens rights to keep them from joining the USA.
The Quebec Act
To keep the French Canadiens from joining the American Revolution, Britain decides to end its assimilation policy, and instead grant French speakers in Canada rights. Canadiens can now run for government, and follow French law.
The Loyalist Migration
People loyal to England during the American Revolution, known as Loyalists, were cast out of America, and forced to move to Canada. The movement of these people into Canada greatly increased the English speaking population.
The War of 1812
British, French Canadien, and First Nations forces join together to stop an American invasion of Canada. This is the first time Canada’s three founding people worked together for a common cause.
