Lark - specifications
Every once in a while a boat like Lark comes along and this J/40 is one of the more turnkey 40’ world capable performance cruiser/racers on the
market today. Lark is fully set up for racing, as well as cruising, and fits in the very popular Chesapeake PHRF A2 performance band - 81 rating. She
also makes for a very good ocean racer with a good blend of performance
and comfort. The J/40 is surprisingly easy to sail and with the long-chord deep keel she goes upwind nicely and tracks like a train. The owner has
spent over $52,000 (not including sails) in the past 5 years upgrading key components including the engine and all components, the entire cabin sole,
the complete propane system and stove/oven, the forward holding tank and all hoses, many of the thru-hull fittings, 95% of the electronics, and many of
the subsystems, halyards and sailing gear. The original J/boat performance packages have been further upgraded if racing, extended cruising or sail
longevity are of interest.
J Boats bills her design as “comfort & speed for couples that cruise across
oceans,” and they may have nailed her pedigree with that statement. The J/40 is just the right size to maneuver easily in the mooring field or marina,
is fast enough under sail to enjoy any bit of breeze on the water, is manageable by one or two sailors and has the structure to take you
anywhere your dreams lead you. Don’t miss out on this unusual opportunity to own a well-maintained, well-mannered fast cruiser.

Additional Information
The first impression when setting sail on a J/40 is that everything works so easily. The mainsail pulls up easily with the strong track. There is a smoothness and acceleration when the J/40 first responds to the wind, even under the mainsail alone. The helmsman trims with wrist action only. Unroll the genoa in open water and she slides into a whole new performance spectrum. Sailing behavior is smooth, and she doesn’t tend to load up like many other boats.
Going below is another surprise, especially for a boat with this kind of performance. The interior is remarkably open and airy. You can see out above deck level. Visibility into the cockpit or up at the sails is excellent. The sensation is that of being on a much larger boat. Unusually good light and ventilation.
The combination of easy handling, speed and uncramped living space is what sets the J/40 apart from other boats. The J/40 is easier to handle than many smaller cruisers, yet has the interior layout and speed of larger ones. It is no wonder why the J/40 was voted Sailing World magazines Boat of the Year just four months after its launch.

The aft cabin has a queen size berth, hanging locker, bureau, shelves, opening port and overhead hatch.
