Record speed~ can be varied from 8 RPM's to 33 RPM 's , The casettes are three hou~ long each and the casette players a lse have variable s peeds.

The materia l : Magazines , books . the bible , e tc ., are recorded by organiza· tions such as Da llas Ta ping F or The Blind. These organizations hire and accept volunteers to read magazines and books while recording the.ir voices .

Dora can order just a bout a ny book or magazine s he wants, which will be recorded on either a casette tape or record. Monthly s~ gets Good -House· keeping, U.S. News and World Re por t and . Texas Farmers Union Seeks Set Asides For

Commodities With commodity prices

hitting rock bottom and with a large surpluses 01 wheat, leed grains and cotton salurating the markel , Texas Farmers Union President Mike Moeller is· urging support 01 voluntary ac, reage " set asides " in 1982. "By voluntarily agreeing 10 remove a percentage of our 1982 acreage Irom production.> we hope to convince the Reagan Adminislralion that a mandatory set aside is absolutely essential in order 10 provide unilorm supply management for all lann crops .. ,

Currently, a ll commodity . prices are. a,t 59 yercent, the lowest level on Ihe parity index since 1932. "Anytime prices fall below 75 percent 01 parity , TFU policy states a mandatory se t aside should be established to control product ion and maintain pr ices," Moeller stated . "When wheat, cotton, leed gra ins or any commodity fall s to a price which is costing the producer mdre to grow his crop than he can expect in return , both the farmer and ultimately the consumer will suffer. We need to have an orderly program which wi ll benefil both producers and the consumers of this country. " Moeller said .

Because the US DA has yet

to c~1I lor any mandatory sel asides, Moeller said il is up to producers 10 band together and exercise supply Inanagement techniques . "Ultimately, we hope the volunlary set aside will lead to a mandatory one enforced by the government. Only with the unilorm partici pation 01 producers from across the country can we expecI to ha ve a workable program."

Moeller said the currenl problem 01 oversupply and low prices was due to the lack of an organized planting a nd marketing system, high production costs and excessive interes t rates "We need to have a . system where the producers can democratica lly eon!rollheir supply through a direct relerendum . We also need a direct voice in setting the prices we are receiving and in the import! export market on agricultural commodities," he stated .

" If Ihe Reagan Administration is really interested in getting government off the backs 01 producers , they wi ll give us the chance to democratica lly control our own destiny with these supply management and cost control techniques, " he con· lirmed . " Otherwise, wi th con tinuing high inte rest rates. trade restrictions , and

increasing production costs, we will be losing tbousands 01 ir.replaceable lamily fa rmers in 1982," Moeller concluded .

Editor's note : The Lakeview Philosopher on ' his Johnson grass farrn discusses human nature this week , sort 01, .

Dear editor:

He held it in his hand and admired il happily, feeling lik. the whole world was on his side ,

Then he pitched it forward and walked up ' and pick ed it up again, recaptu ring the fine sensatio n of spolting a haIr-doll ar on the ground , He did this sevcral times , ju st for the sheer fun of it.

For m ore than two decades PCG has confronted USDA with fa cts and figures to provethal m icronaire, grade and staple discounts in th e governm en t loan schedule consis t en t.ly discrim inat(' against Wes t T e xas and Oklahoma cottons ,

Why, the writer asked, would 8

Tax Preparer An Important

Deeision The choosing of a paid

preparer by taxpayers to do their federal income tax returns should be done carefully , the Internal Revenue Service says.

Most tax return preparers are : honest and do not deliberately attempt to defraud either their clients or the IRS. However, a few abuse the responsibility of preparing a tax return for someone else, and the IRS has suggestions on how to identify these preparen.

Taxpayers should not sign a blank return, or one which is partially completed, or one prepared ' in pencil . These could be altered by

. the preparer. Pr6parers should be' asked to sign the return in the taxpayer's pre- . sence, and give his or her identlficatl!)ll number, U re-~ quired by. law . The taxpayer must be given a copy of the completed return.
