Ftr Yu Idsr Isgt Dy Welcome to the 2019 ITT 'Future You: Industry Insights Day', hosted at the University of Plymouth by the Careers and Employability Service. This is in collaboration with academics who lead our Tourism, Hospitality, Cruise and Event Management degree programmes and the Institute of Travel and Tourism (ITT). The aim of the day is to provide you with an insight into different aspects of working in the tourism sector, both locally and internationally. Our keynote speakers are drawn from different areas of the tourism industry and will be sharing insights into their personal career journeys (including challenges and successes), as well as the skills, aptitudes and experiences they are looking for in today's Tourism graduates. We are also hosting a University of Plymouth Tourism Alumni panel to give you a sense of the diverse and interesting career paths of previous Plymouth graduates. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to ask our speakers any questions you may have relating to gaining work in the sector and how to make the best use of your time at University. Lunch and refreshments are provided, so please enjoy the day and make the most of this opportunity to learn more about an expanding and diverse sector. Welcome to the 2019 ITT 'Future You: Industry Insights Day', hosted at the University of Plymouth by the Careers and Employability Service. This is in collaboration with academics who lead our Tourism, Hospitality, Cruise and Event Management degree programmes and the Institute of Travel and Tourism (ITT).

Sammie Coryton | Director | Pentillie Castle and Estate

Sammie Coryton is the Director and Owner of Pentillie Castle and Estate, a 5-star award-winning boutique Bed and Breakfast, Events and Wedding venue based in the Tamar Valley in Cornwall. As the Director of the 1,500-acre Estate, Sammie manages the overall operations of the Castle, as well as the Estate with its farm tenants, pheasant shoot and additional properties. Having gained her 10 years' of experience in the hospitality industry through her families development of Pentillie, Sammie is always ensuring that the customer journey is paramount. She is an ambitious professional, with strong marketing, event and business management skills, with an outgoing personality and a great interest in people. She also has a degree in Classical Literature and Portuguese from the University of Leeds.

Gemma Edmonds | Director of Visit South Devon and Head of South West for The Springboard Charity and Springboard UK

After spending 15 years as a General Manager/ Senior Manager at some of South Devon's premier hotels, Gemma joined The Springboard Charity and Springboard UK Ltd as Head of the South West. In this role she focuses on inspiring young people through Springboard's school, college and university educational programmes and supporting unemployed or people with multiple barriers into the world of work, all in the hospitality, leisure and tourism industries. Combined with supporting businesses in the South West to attract, retain and develop talent, Gemma is also a Director of Visit South Devon and a St Julian Scholar.

Rebecca Denty | Product Planning Assistant | TUI Group

Rebecca joined TUI for her placement year whilst at The University of Liverpool and spent time in the Product department looking after Greece and Malta. Before finishing her placement, Rebecca was offered a role for when she graduated. Back at University she continued the 9:00-5:30 but in the library and secured herself a 1st class degree… something made possible by the work ethic and resilience she developed at TUI. She returned to Product and also took on the additional role of University liaison, ensuring more students have visibility of and the opportunity to apply to such an amazing placement scheme. Rebecca is an absolute sports nut and has completed Tough Mudders, 75 mile bike rides, climbing challenges, you name it she's probably given it a go!

Andrew Huckerby | Hospitality Sector Change Specialist

Andrew's range of individual, personal and group hospitality business experience is extensive. Hotels, restaurants, bars, leisure clubs and golf courses have all been under his management. Even a foray into the fast-changing United Arab Emirates magnificent 'world of hotels' appears for good measure! As a direct result of his work within these businesses, significant changes took place in the operations. It is this role of hospitality sector change specialist that underlines his approach to entrepreneurship. Never a job for the fainthearted but one in which he works hard to succeed and enjoy!
