wisCoNsiN river MeAts:Experience the Quality

Wisconsin River Meats takes its name seriously. The business invites customers to “Experience the quality that lies nestled here within the beautiful valley of the Wisconsin River. Home to the finest traditional tastes and service.”

In business for over 20 years, owners John Hamm and Da-vid Mauer pride themselves on offering local beef, pork, lamb, buffalo, chicken and cheeses. The business sells specialty sausages and smoked meats with an “old country” flavor, as well as more traditional cuts of choice steak. Among its newer offerings are Kansas City style smoked beef brisket, skinless wieners, pepper bacon and big bologna.

The business is well-known for its landjaegers, which are an original Swiss old world sausage that some call jerky sticks. John Hamm was trained in making landjaegers in the late 1970s and modified the recipe to lo-cal tastes. They are the store’s best-selling item and, in 2007, won Reserve Grand Champion at the Wisconsin State Fair. They also feature their State Cham-pion Ring Bologna.

Wisconsin River Meats has a

working relationship with a group of livestock producers who raise livestock as natu-rally as possible on local family farms. Customers can purchase whole, halves, split halves and quarter carcasses directly from Wisconsin River Meats, which will process the cuts to restau-rant quality.

The business also features deer processing. According to the owners, they have processed more than 30,000 deer, over 10,000 beef and pork products and have made more than 4 million pounds of sausage.

The business also offers full-ser-vice catering, delivery or pick-up. Options range from pig roast to sliced meats, fresh salads, grilled or baked entrees, appe-tizers, bakery items, homestyle sides and beverages.

The business and its 11 kinds of summer sausage (garlic is the best-seller) was featured on The Food Network’s show “Un-wrapped.”

CorNer DrUG:Strong History in Baraboo

ouR HistoRyCorner Drug is the longest running retail establishment in Baraboo. It was founded in 1855 by a druggist named Barringer at 100 Third Street. The store changed owners a few more times before Janet Fritsch purchased the business on January 1, 1993.

In 1997 they moved to their current location at 522 Oak Street. Corner Drug is a family owned and operated pharmacy.

More recent additions to the business have been the JCP Express service now available at the downtown location. JCPenney customers can have

their online purchases shipped free to the Corner Drug Store for pick up. Other services that are offered include the purchase of gift cards, returns and bill payment all at one convenient location.

A new location was added in October of 2012 with the purchase of pharmacy operations at the Dean Clinic-Medical Associates in Baraboo.

Corner Drug Store has always been known for its great customer service. We continue to strive to serve patients and customers by meeting their needs with professionalism, courtesy, respect, and efficiency.

We specialize in hard-to-find wines and liquors. When we first opened, there was only one flavor of vodka and rum; now there’s too many to list and Daley’s has them all. We carry all the new “malt” items, Lime-a-Rita, Straw-ber-Rita, Sprecher Hard Root Beer and Malibu in a Can.

Daley’s began with a small

stand-up cooler with 20 to 30 types of beer, and we now carry over 600, with 500 types of wine from all over the world. We take pride in our huge selection of local and Wisconsin-made wines. Can’t find a certain liquor? Let Daley’s help! At Daley’s we appreciated your business in 1979 and still do today!

PoiNtoN heAtiNG:Committed to Quality

For more than 37 years, Pointon Heating and Air Conditioning Inc. has been meeting the needs of residential and commercial customers in Baraboo and Sauk, Columbia, Juneau, Adams and Marquette counties.

Phil and Alonna Pointon began Pointon Heating and Air Conditioning in Baraboo in 1976. In 1978, Steve Pointon joined the business. And in November 2005, the company expanded to a new location in Portage.

The business sells and installs residential heating and air conditioning units, fireplaces, commercial roof top units, commercial furnaces, commercial air conditioners, gas and oil boilers, in-floor heating systems, indoor air quality systems, sheet metal fabrication and kitchen ventilation. Among the business’s newer products is the Lennox SLP furnace which offers precise comfort control and is the quietest rated furnace on the market.

“Our commitment to quality goes beyond our products and is also reflected in our reputation for excellence and integrity,” said owner Phil Pointon.

Pointon Heating and Air

Conditioning also performs residential and commercial duct cleaning. In today’s air-tight homes, indoor air quality is a growing concern. Many of the contaminants are circulated through the central air systems and can aggravate the symptoms of asthma and allergies. Pointon can remove these contaminants from the home with the Rotobrush air duct cleaning system. Call for a free estimate.

Pointon employees have more than 200 years of combined experience in the heating and air conditioning industry and can handle both small and large jobs.

kArAs DeNtAL:Sinsational Smiles Created In As Little As 20 Minutes

Karas Dental of Elroy and Necedah now offers teeth whitening in as little as 20 minutes with Sinsational Smile.

“Having a smile you feel good about is so important.” says Amy Karas of Karas Dental. “ Whiter teeth can enhance a persons smile and boost their confidence. That is why we are so excited to offer this fast, affordable an painless treatment option to our patients.”

The Sinsational Smile system uses a pre-filled silicone tray which contains an exclusively formulated whitening gel. Once in the chair, the tray is placed into the patients mouth and an LED light is used to activate the whitening gel. The whole process works in 20 minutes.

“The whitening option we had in the past cost about $400. The process was also very time consuming. Because of this many patients did not see the full whitening effects because they weren’t compliant or because their teeth became too sensitive so they stopped.” says Treatment and Insurance coordinator Dianne Johnson.

“ What is so nice about the Sinsational Smile system is that it is done right in the office it only takes 20 minutes and doesn’t cause tooth sensitivity. It is also more affordable. If done the same day as your cleaning it is $99 otherwise it is $150.”

Although results can vary based on persons starting tooth color and medications, most people will see a minimum of 2 shades lighter after their office treatment.

Considered a Baraboo landmark, dating back to 1903, Rago-Baldwin Funeral Home has maintained its high standards in the profession and in the community. Owners/operators David and Sherry Baldwin understand that life is different for everyone. People have different faiths, customs, and occupations. But each person’s life is special. For that reason, they always make a point of concentrating on the quality of a life well-lived.

Funerals serve many purposes. They help confirm the reality and finality of death; they provide a climate of mourning and the expression of grief, and they provide a way for the

community to pay its respects. Funerals bring closure to the death and enable survivors to go on with their lives.

The Baldwins have 24/7 availability year-round and are available to personally assist individuals of all faiths and beliefs, with sincere compassion, empathy and dignity. Services include pre-arrangements, cremation arrangements, online obituaries, caskets, urns, bereavement support and more.

reDLiN FUNerAL hoMe:More Than 42 Dedicated Years of Service

This funeral establishment, while having changed names several times over the years, has been serving all faiths since 1939.

The Redlin Funeral Home, Inc. was originally located on the southwest corner of 8th Avenue and Broadway in Baraboo. In 1960, Jim Redlin moved to Baraboo from Hartford, Wisconsin, and began employment with the Scheible Funeral Home. In September of 1970, Jim and his wife, Marie, purchased the business and dedicated 22 more years to funeral service in the Baraboo area.

Their son, Gary joined the firm in 1981 after a brief career in law enforcement.

Following Jim’s unexpected death in 1992, Gary’s wife, Sandy, joined the staff. Our

associate Funeral Director, Mandy (Ertz) McNurlen was hired in 2007, and Diana Lincicum in 2012.

To provide newer facilities, more parking and easier access, the business moved to 401 Madison Avenue in July of 2004. The Redlin Funeral Home staff has strived to meet the needs of its clients that have changed a great deal over the years. We offer a wide variety of products and services including pre-arrangements, funeral trust agreements, cremation and funeral services.

tiMberLAke hoMes:Turning a House into a Home

Timberlake homes was opened in June 0f 2007 by Ron and Patti Thompson, and Tom and Sarah Carroll, as a family partnership, selling, delivering and installing manufactured and modular homes. Customers can find help in their company for designing their homes, avenues for seeking financing, land home packages and aftermarket products like decks, garages, roofs, pole barns, gutters, and even vinyl window replacements. They are a local U-Haul dealer and also handle real estate sales. Twenty seven years in the industry has allowed them to cultivate relationships with the best of local contractors and enables them to do a turn key approach for customers resulting in a much more pleasant experience. Manufacturers today have learned to listen to the consumer’s needs and are offering many choices, like handicap accessible showers, 36” interior doors, hi-efficiency furnaces, low e windows, as well as wood gas or electric fireplaces, granite counter tops, laminate floors, hickory cabinets and built in appliances. The homes can be as stunning as you want or as basic for the economy budget minded. Roof pitches can be 5/12 and even 7/12, shake exteriors and bump outs can be optioned in, and maintenance is kept to a minimum with the vinyl siding and windows. Choices of colors

for the interior and exterior are modern and the factories have their design and color schemes complimentary to each other, so when the homes are built people are just amazed. The homes can be built as single wides, sectionals, modular, and installed on many different types of foundations, such as basements, crawlspaces, or slabs, which the folks at TimberLake have done all different ways over the past two plus decades. The company also works with pre-owned homes and handles the delivery and set up of them for customers, too. The company philosophy is the same as it has always been, to treat people the way they want to be treated, and try to use their past experience to give their very valued customers a finished project that they are proud to call home, using manufacturers and contractors who stand behind their product and services.Stop in today and take a tour of the many styles of homes they have to offer, and talk to them about owning the home of your dreams. You will be pleasantly surprised!!

MeAt MArket:Locally Raised and Award Winning Meats

Eating local is a hot topic in food safety and nutrition these days. Consumers are urged to know where their food comes from not only to help stimulate the local economy, but also to have more assurance that it is grown or raised safely and distributed into the marketplace more quickly. That opportunity abounds at The Meat Market in Baraboo. Founded in 1989, The Meat Market offers residents a nearly endless access to local meats. The market slaughters locally raised animals, "so everything is fresh," says owner Mike Vold. The market's sales area is brimming with local options. It features 40 feet of fresh meat cases and 16 feet of freshly frozen sausage and meat products. The locally raised beef and pork cuts are among the market's specialties. And if it's sausage you're seeking, you've come to the right place. The market makes hundreds of different kinds of award-winning sausages, including 25 different kinds of bratwurst. The Meat Market also offers bundles, such as a Beef Bundle that includes 10 pounds of

ground beef, 10 pounds of assorted steak and four pounds of ring bologna. Other bundles include Ground Beef Bundle, Ground Chuck Bundle, Pork Bundle and Grilling Bundle. Prices vary. The market offers pigs for roasting and rents roasters. It also does custom processing of beefs, hogs and lambs, as well as smoking bacon, ham, fish, chicken and turkey. The plant is state inspected and follows a strict HACCP plan. The market's website offers tips on cooking poultry, pork, fish, shrimp and beef (including pictures of doneness). Customers can also like the market's Facebook page or look at the website for weekly specials. And those making a trip to the market will find it hard to miss, what with the giant white and brown steer on the top of the building. Definitely truth in advertising there.

hoLiDAY whoLesALe:Bridal Shower Planning Made Easy

Someone very special in your life is getting married and you have been asked to be the maid or matron of honor ... what an honor, indeed! However, that honor comes with a great deal of responsibility. Traditionally, the maid of honor is involved in the planning and hosting of the bridal shower.

Joan Jensen, manager of Holiday Wholesale in Wisconsin Dells said they have the products and food items that can make planning a bridal shower a piece of cake (yes, they have sheet cakes for the event, too).

At the Holiday Wholesale showroom store, the party planner can find special plates and napkins with a wedding theme or, if a bride prefers her plates and napkins to match her bridesmaids’ dresses, they are available in a rainbow of other colors.

“If they want more upper scale (disposable plates and utensils), we have the clear plates and plastic ware,” she said. “This makes it more elegant.”

There are other sweet shower items available at Holiday Wholesale. “We have big boxes of mints (for shower favors) and plastic wine or champagne

glasses, along with the wedding paper products,” Jensen said.

She said Holiday Wholesale, which is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. has a variety of serving trays, including diamond cut and domed deli trays, which help make the luncheon special.

What will be served on all of the fancy plates and trays? Holiday Wholesale has a variety of food to make the shower stand out. Their appetizers include meatballs, smoky links and several types of cheese and sausage.

They have prepared salads to choose from such as bacon, lettuce, tomato (BLT) salad, macaroni, potato, rotini salads and coleslaw.

They also have a variety of dips for crackers or chips. “We have a Cajun Crab dip that’s very good,” Jensen said, adding that other dips include salmon, spinach, taco, dill and spinach/artichoke. And as far as those sheet cake flavors are concerned, Holiday Wholesale has carrot, chocolate, yellow and German chocolate cakes for the perfect ending to the perfect bridal shower.

reeDsbUrG AreA MeDiCAL CeNter:Offer Innovative Options for Knee Replacement

Dr. Kevin Weber and Dr. Dean Fochios, both full time RAMC orthopedic surgeons, offer knee replacement surgery as part of their practice. The doctors emphasize that having well–researched state–of–the–art options right in the community for cutting–edge care, means the best care for patients. They both offer knee replacement components from different companies, both of which are well respected in the orthopedic community and have proven track records in their outcome studies. In addition to having the best equipment available, both doctors stress education before and after the procedure. This allows the patient to maximize their recovery and results. Most often a damaged knee, in need of replacement, stems from arthritic conditions. A knee replacement surgery replaces both sides of the knee joint with metal and plastic implants to decrease pain and increase mobility. Although at first glance the knee might seem to be a simple joint to replace, the reality is that it is a complex mechanism with parts that need to synchronize perfectly in order to sustain the kind of mobility most take for granted.

All knee replacement systems on the market are not the same. Based on their research and experience, Drs. Weber and Fochios are able to offer not one, but two different types of knee implants. Dr. Weber offers the GetAroundKnee by Stryker while Dr. Fochios offers the TruMatch Knee by DePuy. Dr. Weber feels that the GetAroundKnee, which its manufacturer notes is “designed to replace the knee’s naturally circular motion,” is an excellent choice with a clear history and use dating from the mid 1990s. He finds that it incorporates the best of new developments with a successful track record. Since the Stryker company specializes in “introducing new materials that make [knee] replacement joints feel and act more like the natural joint,” Dr. Weber also finds that the GetAroundKnee exceeds its goal of bringing a knee replacement to “patients and physicians that is simpler, faster, and more effective.” No matter what type of implant is used, the knee replacement process still requires an immense amount of skill by the surgeon for a custom fit. Dr. Fochios finds that DePuy’s TruMatch Knee with its ‘rotating platform’ feels

more natural since the knee joint is not just a hinge joint, but it also rotates as well. Dr. Fochios is confident that TruMatch adheres to its company’s stated goal of a “proven philosophy of mechanical alignment, with the customized patient instruments and computer software system designed to aid in knee implant positioning and procedure efficiency. The TruMatch process starts with “a CT scan of the whole leg, from hip to ankle.” The TruMatch team then works with the surgeon to create a personalized fit by creating “a complete three dimensional model of the whole leg structure” and combining it “with the patient’s information.” Both TruMatch and the GetAroundKnee components take into account that the knee is not a fixed angle joint. Between the upper and lower parts of the leg, both implants are designed to recreate a normal knee range of motion. Knee joints actually glide and shift and rotate in addition to bending. Because knee replacements are individualized, the doctors share a philosophy of client–centered care. Both Dr. Weber and Dr. Fochios approach their knee

replacement patients from the perspective of wanting to involve their patients in their own care “through education and understanding what their conditions are, what the different treatment options involve, rather than simply dictating to them what they should do.” Knee replacement surgery is not just a patient- physician relationship, but a complete program of education involving nurses, physical therapists and nurse anesthetists. This team approach really answers all the questions and provides information up–front so that the patient can focus on getting better rather than being overwhelmed by the process. Both Dr. Weber and Dr. Fochios appreciate RAMC’s state–of–the–art operating room facilities in which they perform the procedures. That combined with educated, well–trained staff to assist them, knee replacement surgery at RAMC is performed in an environment that maximizes the patient’s experience and outcome.FoR MoRe inFoRMation

Let us tell you a little bit about our residential roofing. When it comes to re-roofing your home, there are many

different products and also many different companies to choose from. Roofing isn’t what it used to be. It takes a professional, experienced company – not only to do the job right, but to help you make the right decisions.

We can walk you through the decisions and choices. For example: architectural style asphalt shingles or stone-coated steel shingles? What about insulation and ventilation? We will explain how the attic and roof work together as a system.

hiLL’s wiriNG:97 Years of Innovation

Hill’s Wiring has been ahead of the curve in the electrical field since the company was established by Max F. Hill in 1916. Some of the first work Max Sr. ever did was connect rural farms and barns to newly-installed electrical lines. He was literally at the forefront of widespread electrical availability in the United States. Today it’s hard to imagine a world without electricity, but there are still new frontiers in the electrical field and Hill’s Wiring is not only keeping current with them, but excelling. We at Hill’s are skilled in quality installation of data communications wiring, including Ethernet cabling for internet access— a technology equally as difficult to think about doing without as electricity itself. In the area of renewable energy, we have Master Electricians who are Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) trained to install and service systems such as photoelectric solar arrays and wind turbines. Hill’s Wiring also designs custom lighting layouts, including those that utilize cutting-edge LED technology.

For 97 years Hill’s Wiring, Inc. has been known for excellence in electrical work and conscientious project management. Our acquisition of Kuehn Electric in 2009 enables us to serve the greater Waunakee region in addition to the Baraboo area, and we take great pride in providing the highest quality in workmanship, materials and customer service wherever our customers are located. We at Hill’s Wiring look forward to providing you with high-quality electrical work and friendly, prompt service in the near future.

S&L COMPANIES/CULVER’S FRANCHISENot every family has the strength, knowledge andcommitment to own, run and operate their own busi-ness. We are proud to acknowledge that our family hassuccessfully accomplished all these aspects as well asgoals above and beyond what we initially predicted.

Our business began in March of 1994 when we openedthe doors of our first Culver’s restaurant in Portage, withour parents Arthur and Debbie Stevenson. In 2010 Chadand I purchased their shares in the companies.

Our next business entity was the opening of the She-boygan Culver’s in 1996. After six years of profitableoperations, this entity was sold to our uncle, Ken Horkan,in 2002. The construction and opening of Culver’s inColumbus occurred in 2002.

Beaver Dam is where we headed next with the pur-chase of the Culver’s there in 2004. We welcomed anew partner/owner/operator, David Luepke, aboardto ensure that our high standards of operations werebeing met. Dave’s sole and determined interest inthis restaurant, in conjunction with our leadership andbusiness knowledge, will provide the foundations for abright future in Beaver Dam.

Reedsburg is where we expanded next with the pur-chase of the Culvers there in 2006. We are planning to

demolish and rebuild this location starting July 8 andthe new restaurant should be operational in October. We will be increasing staffing levels by 20 percent afterreconstruction.

Kokomo, Ind. is where we expanded next with the newconstruction and opening of the Culvers location in thefall of 2006. We have Keith Remington as the partner/owner/operator of that location. Keith and his familymoved from our Columbus location to operate theKokomo location.

Waupun is where we expanded in 2007. We purchasedthat restaurant with David Luepke from our BeaverDam operation. This restaurant will be fully remodeledinside and out in May. We will be increasing staffinglevels by 20 percent after the remodel.

Sun Prairie was purchased in 2008 and was expandedin 2012 with our partner Duane Sprecher. We increasedour workforce by 30 percent as a result. Kenosha iswhere we went next. We purchased this restaurant in2009 and have increased staffing levels by 50 percentin just 3 years.

Mauston was purchased in May 2011 with our partnerMatt Beder. This location is currently under constructionand will be expanded by 20 percent with a completiondate of May. We anticipate an additional 20 percentincrease in hiring over the next year.

Mishawaka, Ind. was purchased in February 2012 withour operating partner Keith Remington. Kenosha,Sheridan Road, opened in July 2012 with our partnerJustin Lawler. This location cleaned up a two-acre siteon Sheridan Road and is a beautiful addition to thedowntown community.

In Goshen, Ind. we will be opening a new restaurant inthe fall of 2013 with our business partner Keith Reming-ton. In Fort Myers, Fla. we are currently in the process ofacquiring three sites to open Culver’s in the Fort Myers

and Cape Coral area. The first restaurant should openin January 2014.

As is evident, our family and its businesses have grown inthe past 19 years, both in size and profitability. That be-ing said, we as a family have simultaneously continuedto deepen our relationships on a personal and profes-sional level. The strengths and advantages of a familyowned business are truly immeasurable, the opportuni-ties are endless.

Sometimes it is the beads, the clothes, the music I am listening to or the clothing I need to match, but I love it all!”

Baraboo, WI (May 2013) – Just over 90 years ago, seven Sisters of St. Mary traveled from St. Louis, Missouri to Baraboo to open the community’s first official hospital in the Oak Street mansion of Alf T. and Adella Ringling of Ringling Bros. Circus fame. St. Mary’s Ringling Hospital opened on November 2, 1922 and served Baraboo and the surrounding communities until June 15, 1963, when the Sisters opened the new St. Clare Hospital several blocks away on a parcel of rural land with a breathtaking view of the Baraboo bluffs.

What began as a small hospital in a circus owner’s mansion is now a campus of multiple modern facilities in three communities. St. Clare Hospital and St. Clare Meadows Care Center in Baraboo and urgent care clinics in Wisconsin Dells and Lake Delton offer a breadth of award-winning services to keep quality health care close to home. “While the facilities, services and staff have changed over the past 90 years, what has not changed is our unwavering commitment to provide exceptional care to those we serve,” said Sandy Anderson, St. Clare Hospital President.

St. Clare Hospital, which celebrates its 50th anniversary

this June, features a wide range of health care services often not found at a rural hospital including radiation oncology, chemical dependency treatment and an integrative, whole-person approach to medicine at the Healthy Living

Center in Baraboo and Dean Integrative Medicine Clinic in Lake Delton. To better serve its patients, St. Clare Hospital recently completed an $11.5 million redesign and remodel of its two-floor, medical-surgical department and a relocation and expansion of its intensive care unit. St. Clare also expanded its urgent care clinic offerings in Wisconsin Dells to include physical therapy services.

St. Clare Hospital’s next project will include the construction of a medical office building onto the hospital’s west entrance off of Tuttle Street. The new

building, scheduled to open by the end of 2013, will be part of the hospital’s new main entrance. The 30,000 square-foot facility will house a clinic for the large and growing number of Dean physician-specialists who travel from Madison to provide services ranging from cardiology to urology. The medical office building will also be home to the Dean Clinic surgeons and the Davis Duehr Dean eye clinic currently located across the street from the hospital. Valet parking will be offered beginning this summer for the convenience of patients and visitors.

As a leading rural hospital in Wisconsin, St. Clare Hospital is poised to respond to the rapidly changing health care environment where the national focus is moving from taking care of patients only when they are sick to partnering with them to keep them healthy. “Our commitment to the health of our communities has had a long history, thanks to the Sisters who courageously accepted the call to open a hospital in Baraboo,” said Anderson. “As St. Clare Hospital celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, we carry on the Sisters’ healing ministry by remaining dedicated and present to our patients when they need us. As we look to the future,

we will continue to provide state-of-the-art facilities and exceptional service and we will respond to the new call to offer even more innovative ways to keep our population healthy.”
