The joy of being with friends, and the beauty of Lone Peak, Big Sky, Old Faithful, etc., caused my creative energy to put "pen to paper" and come up with the attached tribute to our team leader....Janet Emery. I haven't shared this with her yet....just thought, if space permitted, it might be OK to submit it in the Flakey. Whatever you think will be fine. Thanks for the great work you do on our newsletter! Thanks Much, Diane McFarland. (Please see the next page for her tribute.)

CRESCENT SKI COUNCIL 2010 SPRING CONVENTION

April 22 – 25, 2010

Don't Miss Out On A Great Trip! Don’t miss another opportunity for a great beach trip. Meet old friends and make new ones during a fun filled weekend at Myrtle Beach. The CSC Spring Convention is for all CSC members’ enjoyment and relaxation. There will be ski resort representatives, travel agents, ski apparel, dining, dancing, beach Olympics, tennis, golf and much more! Accommodations are one or two bedroom condos, right on the beach. Costs range from $91 to $154 per person in a 2 Bedroom/2 Bath condo for 2 to 3 nights. SITE INFORMATION Kingston Plantation is a 145-acre oceanfront paradise complete with beautifully landscaped grounds and sparkling white sand beaches. Enjoy SPLASH!, the 50,000 square foot pool complex where you can swim, float, sun or just relax. There is a restaurant and lounge on the premises. The Sports and Health Club features an indoor lap pool, and cardio-vascular equipment, sauna, whirlpool, and 13 tennis courts.

LODGING UNITS The Kingston Plantation offers well-furnished and completely equipped condos and villas. Amenities include a full kitchen with coffee maker, microwave and dishwasher, washer and dryer, cable TV, telephones, and maid-service.

Kingston Plantation, 9800 Queensway Blvd., Myrtle Beach, SC (843) 449-0006

Reservation and deposit deadline is March 1, 2010 with balance due by March 21, 2010. If you are interested, act now because rooms fill up fast. For more details see: http://www.crescentskicouncil.org/conventions.html and call Bob Breeden (256-665-1800) to make reservations. UPDATE: It looks like we won’t get all 3 nights in Brighton Towers. I have sent a deposit for the two night option and asked to be put on a waiting list for the 3 night option. However, I’d recommend that y’all consider making a reservation at a nearby motel for Thursday night. Remember, there will be a great early-bird reception on Thursday evening about 6 pm for all with free food and drinks. I’ve checked availability and prices on Hotel.com and it looks like several are open for our size group. There was a Le Quinta Inn for $69 and a Hampton Inn for $114 for a room. Either of these prices beat the price at Brighton Towers. We have 12 signed up for the trip so far. If you want, I’ll make a reservation for 6 rooms at either of these places. They also have two beds in each room….for the guys. Look it up and decide what you want to do.

LE QUINTA INN or HAMPTON INN.

"DANCING LIKE THE STARS 2010" A Program of Ballroom Dance Classes For Beginner And Intermediate Dancers

Instructors: Mary Jo Blount & Vincent Guarin Classes will be temporarily held at the Myra Garriott School Age Center, BLDG 3155 and will resume at the Diane Campbell Recreation Center, BLDG 3711 when building renovations are completed. Classes will usually be held on Thursday evenings for 1 1/2 hrs. Tuition is based on $11 per couple per class ($44 for a 4-week course; $55 for a 5-week course; and $66 for a 6-week course).

The one-time 1 1/2 hr. special class in January, "Introduction to Ballroom Dancing" is free and without obligation. It is an overview of the "Dancing Like The Stars 2010" program and of Ballroom Dancing in general. The class is intended for those with very little or no experience who may be interested in finding out more about ballroom dancing before registering for a course. The class will consist of an overview with lecture, a handout, dance demonstrations, Q & A, and some very basic instruction. Refreshments will be provided. No experience is necessary to register for a Basic (Beginner) course. Participants who wish to repeat a Basic course for review purposes, may eliminate the first class only and pay a reduced tuition. For an Intermediate course, some prior dance experience is required, which may have been obtained at RSA or elsewhere. Each new couple registering for a course for the first time in the program, will be provided with a free CD of ballroom dance music for practice purposes. Instructors will invite the participants to accompany them to local dances. Attendance at these dances is optional. A minimum of 7 couples is required to conduct a course and the class size will be limited to the size of the facility and the types of dances offered. From time-to-time, a free dance party hosted by the Recreation Center Manager will be provided for the program participants

Calling All Dancers! This Friday night, the Sophisticated Swingers will be playing at the Priceville Palace and unfortunately, if there are not at least 40 people (20 couples), the owner, Selma, a nice lady who has been having the Swingers play every month for about the last 18 years, will have to put an end to "the ballroom dance". Attendance has been very small and the Swingers have been playing for free to help her out. At the last two first Fridays we attended, in January the band members outnumbered the dancers and last month I think we counted 11 couples. Mary Jo and I will be going this Friday, March 5th and we are asking you to attend if you possibly can. We will be going to dinner first at the "Old" Greenbrier Restaurant at 6:00pm and then drive on over to the Palace. The music starts at 7:30pm. If you would like to join us for dinner or meet us at the Palace, please reply or call me and I will make table reservations if we have a group. Admission to the Palace is $15 per couple and cans of soda are only $1 each. Everyone is Welcome, so please come! Thanks, Vince, 880-6928 [email protected]

Subaru is a proud sponsor of the Crescent Ski Council (CSC) Racing program. Part of their sponsorship package this year includes the VIP Discount program for all CSC members. Qualifying members of a CSC club can purchase or lease a new Subaru at 2% below dealer cost minus any incentives, which are currently being offered. To qualify, you must have been a member of the Huntsville Ski Club for at least six (6) months. If you are interested, please notify Bob Breeden at –email address - [email protected] of your intent to participate. Subaru will mail the VIP information to you, which will include information about local dealers participating in the VIP program.
