• Vehicle position is determined by track circuits and loops for rail, and GPS for bus.

• Arrival estimation algorithm relies on both location and early/late status of vehicle.

• AVL system receives early/late status update approximately every 90 seconds.

• Arrival estimate is determined by adjusting the scheduled running time by the early/late status of vehicle.

• Increase person trips through selected traffic corridors while minimizing impacts on minor movements.

• Reduce transit running times.• Improve transit schedule reliability:

• Reduce running time variability.• Reduce excess time built into

schedule to offset variability.• Defer providing additional transit

capacity.

• Bus Dispatch/Automatic Vehicle Location System (BDS/AVL) tracks bus location and schedule status.

• If conditions are met, bus emitter (Opticom) communicates priority request to signal.
