MAC (V.O.)Maybe we can just cram it in there.

CHARLIE (V.O.)I dont know dude, I dont thinkitll fit. We should ask Frank.

MAC (V.O.)I dont know why he wants this old

desk down here anyway.

FADE IN:

INT. PADDYS BASEMENT - DAY

Mac and Charlie stare at the desk.

CHARLIEMaybe we should put it someplaceelse.

MACFrank said he wanted it here. He

was very specific.

They look at a wall. An old cabinet takes up a majority ofit, leaving no room for the desk.

MAC (CONTD)Lets just rip it out.

CHARLIEAre you kidding? This cabinetsbeen here for hundreds of years.

Charlie reaches his fingers behind the cabinet.

CHARLIE (CONTD)This things not coming down

without a fight.

Charlie starts to pry and the cabinet comes falling down ontop of them. Dust fills the room.

Frank walks down the stairs.

FRANKWhat the hell is going on downhere?

The dust settles revealing a hole in the wall large enoughfor someone to crawl through.

Charlie runs up to the hole.

CHARLIEOh-My-God!

MACI wonder where it goes?

Frank thinks.

FRANKYou know what this is? Its aShanghai tunnel.

MACWhat are you talking about?

Charlie laughs.

CHARLIEYeah? Shanghai's like a hundred

miles away.

FRANKNo, you idiots. Dont you knowanything?

Mac and Charlie look at each other.

FRANK (CONTD)Back in the 1800s, slave tradersput traps in the floors of taverns.When a strapping young man came in,they would pull the door and BAM!

Mac nods.

Charlie and Mac look at each other.

Charlie does his best Nick Cage impression.

Frank, Dennis and Dee look at a map of the city on the desk.

DENNISI dont know, Frank. I meanShanghais on the other side of the

world. Why didnt they just set upshop out west?

FRANKThey did, but their East Coastoperation was based here in Philly.

Dennis and Dee look at each other.

DEEIt could have been the undergroundrailroad.

FRANKMaybe Im not explaining thisright.

Frank pulls a book out from under the desk.

DENNISOr maybe a Safe Haven during WorldWar II.

DEEDennis, didnt you say grandpa wasa Nazi? Maybe hed know.

Frank opens the book.

FRANKIve been doing a lot of researchon the subject.

Mac and Charlie walk in, dressed in mining suits.

Everyone looks at Mac and Charlie.

DENNISWhoa! Where did you guys get thosecool outfits?

DEEYou went to visit gramps?

Charlie and Mac laugh.

Frank points at a page in the book.

FRANK

You guys are going about this allwrong. This tunnel was used forsome funky shit.

Dee turns to Dennis.

DENNISI think I do. Charlie, give me thekey.

Charlie flips Dennis the key.

Lets go find us a Safe Haven.

Dennis and Dee leave.

Frank stares at Mac and Charlie.

Mac pulls out another mining suit.

Mac turns to Charlie.

MACWhich means that Frank would haveto find his own costume...

Frank grabs the suit from Mac.

Mac and Charlie smile.

INT. STORAGE - NIGHT

Dennis and Dee are rifling through their grandfathers boxes.

Dee looks at a picture of her and Dennis with theirgrandfather.

DEECheck this out.

Dennis looks at the picture. Gramps is wearing a swastikaband around his arm.

DENNISI dont know how we missed thatone, sis.

Dennis opens another box. He pulls out a book.

DENNISI think this is what were lookingfor.

The cover of the book reads:

Dennis opens the book.

DENNISI dont know, its in German.

Dee grabs the book from Dennis.

DEELet me see it.

DENNISDo you speak German?

DEE

German, Spanish, theyre all prettymuch the same.

Dee skims through.

DEE (CONTD)For here...have...eat...

Dennis grabs the book back from her.

DENNISSo much for that.

Dennis flips through the book.

DENNIS (CONTD)We can go visit gramps.

DEE

DENNISWell then, shes probably heard alot of German. I think she worksat the Holocaust musium.

Dennis looks up from the book.

DENNISI think we found our answer.

Dennis pulls out an old black and white photo of Paddys Pub.

INT. TUNNEL - CONTINUOUS

Mac, Charlie and Frank walk down a tunnel. It splits off.

MACWhat do we do now, Frank?

Frank looks at the walls of both tunnels.

CHARLIEWhat are you looking for?

Frank smiles and points to a drawing on the wall.

FRANKThis.

They look at a carved symbol of a man smoking a pipe.

MACWhat is it?

FRANKAn opium den!

CHARLIEAn opium den? Really Frank?

FRANKYeah. That was part of the wholeseedy past. There used to beprostitutes, gambling and, ofcourse, opium. Lots of opium!

Mac looks at the wall heading down the other tunnel.

MACFrank?

Frank walks over to Mac.

MAC (CONTD)What do you think this one means?

They look at another symbol, this one of a dollar sign and anarrow pointing down the tunnel.

Franks sifts through the book.

FRANKDoesnt say.

CHARLIEIt must be the treasure!

FRANKOr, it could be a trap.

Charlie looks at Mac. They head down the money tunnel.

FRANK (CONTD)Where are you guys going?

CHARLIEWere here for the treasure. What

would Nick Cage do?

MACI imagine hed go for the treasure.

CHARLIEThen thats what well do.

FRANKWhat about the opium den?

Charlie stops and turns back to Frank.

CHARLIEI dont know. I dont think he

would smoke opium, Frank. It justdoesnt sound right.

Mac steps in.

MACNow wait. I hear opium opens upthe mind. So, maybe...he would hitsome up first...Maybe do some

gambling?

FRANKAnd get a prostitute?

CHARLIEAre you kidding me? Cant you seehow close we are? This is NOT whatNick Cage would do!

Mac goes back to Franks tunnel.

CHARLIE (CONTD)Are you freaking kidding me?

FRANKWell catch up with you later.

Frank and Mac walk down the tunnel.

CHARLIEHey, wait...fine!

Charlie walks down the other tunnel. He trips over a rock,as a blade swings over his head.

Not noticing the blade, Charlie finds himself face to facewith an ivory pipe. He turns to stand up, barely missing theblade.

Charlie brushes the top of his head.

CHARLIE (CONTD)Hey, guys? You might...

Charlie stares at the pipe, then grabs it, huddling it tohimself.

CHARLIE (CONTD)(as Nick Cage)

Time to clear the Gates familyname.

Charlie smiles, checking his head, and continues down thetunnel.

INT. MUSEUM - DAY

Dee and Dennis look at a wall of refugee pictures. MRS.STENINSKI, the musium curator approaches.

MRS. STENINSKI

Dennis, how are you?

DENNISMrs. Steninski, great to see youagain. You remember my sister,Dee?

MRS. STENINSKIYes, Dee. Its nice to see you.

Dee looks around.

DEE

You too.

MRS. STENINSKISo what brings you here?

DENNISWell, we were hoping that you canprovide us with some information.

MRS. STENINSKII can sure try. What are you kidslooking for?

DEEWe hear that theres a lot ofplaces around here you guys hidduring the Holocaust.

Mrs. Steninski smiles.

MRS. STENINSKIWell, there was a very wellestablished network inPhiladelphia. I remember when...

DENNISThats great. Specifically, we

were wondering if you have everseen this place.

Dee shows the picture of Paddys to Mrs. Steninski. Shegasps.

MRS. STENINSKIWhere did you get this?

Mrs. Steninski grabs the picture from Dee. She looks at theback of the photo and tries to make out the German.

Dee grabs the picture back.

MRS. STENINSKIDo you know what it says?

DENNISWell, we were hoping you could tellus.

Mrs. Steninski takes the picture back from Dee.

MRS. STENINSKIWell, its in German.

DEE

Yes, we know that.

A MAN nods at Mrs. Steninski. She nods back.

MRS. STENINSKIIm sorry Dennis. I have a meetingto attend. We have a big pressconference coming up.

Mrs. Steninski holds the picture up.

MRS. STENINSKI (CONTD)Can I borrow this? I might be ableto help you out.

Dee grabs it back, this time with a little more resistancefrom Mrs. Steninski.

DEEI dont think so. Dennis we shouldgo.

Dennis and Dee walk away.

DENNIS (CONTD)What the hell are you doing?

DEEIm not letting her get the creditfor this. This is our bar.

DENNISFirst off, Its not OUR bar. Andsecond, I have to see her everyday. You should have been a littlenicer.

DEEWell, this was just a waste oftime! Lets get in that tunnel.

Dennis and Dee leave as the Man approaches Mrs. Steninski.

MANAre we ready to start?

MRS. STENINSKIYeah, lets go. Weve got a busyday ahead of us.

MANWhat did they want?

MRS. STENINSKIIm not sure. Lets go.

The two walk into to the meeting room.

INT. OPIUM DEN - DAY

Frank and Mac are searching the room.

MACDo you really think theres anyopium here?

FRANKAccording to my sources...

Frank opens his book.

FRANK (CONTD)

They kept it in glass jars and hideit. We need to look everywhere.

Mac searches and finds something. He turns to Frank.

MACBingo.

FRANKNice job, Mac!

MACWhat are we going to smoke it out

of?

FRANKI came prepared.

Frank pulls a big bong out of his tool belt.

MACYou brought a bong in the tunnel

with you?

FRANKI dont leave home without it. Itfit nicely into my flashlightholster.

Frank shows him, sliding it in and out of the holster.

FRANK (CONTD)Didnt even loose any water!

FRANKYou still have yours, right?

Mac pulls his out of the holster.

FRANK (CONTD)So what are we worried about?

Mac smiles.

MACLets fire it up!


Charlie walks through the tunnel, sticking his pipe intoevery hole in the wall, trying to find the match that willunlock the secrets.

CUT TO:

INT. PADDYS BASEMENT - LATER

Dennis and Dee wear hard hats and tool belts. They look intoa mirror.

DEEWe look goofy in this crap.

DENNISYou do look goofy, Ill give youthat.

Dennis admires himself in the mirror. Hes wearing tightshorts and a T-shirt under his belt.

DENNIS (CONTD)I, however, look pretty damn good.

DEEWhere did you find these getups?

DENNISFranks got all his constructionstuff down here.

Dennis is still admiring himself. Dee gets impatient.

Dennis grabs a video camera and looks at Dee.

DENNISI was thinking.

DEEOh, here we go...

DENNISYou ever see that guy who goesunderground checking out tunnels?

DEEIs that the one with the stupidaccent?

Dennis thinks, then looks at the mirror again and smiles.

DENNISYeah.

INT. OPIUM DEN - CONTINUOUS

Mac and Frank lay motionless in the smoke filled room.

CUT TO:

EXT. OUTSIDE PADDYS PUB - LATER

Dennis walks quickly down the street past a cafe.

DENNIS(crappy British accent)

For over fifty years, researchersin Philadelphia have been lookingfor a network of undergroundtunnels.

Dennis rounds the corner. Dee is video taping as she walksbackwards, trying to stay ahead of him. She smacks a table,knocking over drinks and pissing the patrons off.

DENNIS (CONTD)These tunnels were home to a Safe

Haven for refugees from World WarII.

Dennis quickly turns another corner. Dee struggles to keepahead.

DEEYou want to slow down?

Dennis ignores her. He stops in front of Paddys.

DENNISToday, we have the pleasure of

being the first ones to enter thetunnels. Here, just feet below afamous local pub known as Paddys-

Dennis opens the door.

DENNIS (CONTD)Well make a little history. Letsgo inside.

Dennis walks in, slamming the door and knocking Dee and thecamera to the ground.

INT. OPIUM DEN - CONTINUOUS

From Franks view, we see a hazy, shaky picture.

MACFrank?

Frank keeps looking around.

MAC (CONTD)Frank!

FRANKMac! What are you doing in mydream?

MACI think we smoked way to much ofthat stuff. We need to go findCharlie.

Frank walks out of the room and goes left.

Mac looks around, in a daze.

MAC (CONTD)Frank? Frank! Oh, shit.

Mac walks out of the room and goes right.

INT. PADDYS BASEMENT - CONTINUOUS

Dennis stands by the hole to the tunnel.

DENNIS(still with crappy accent)

This hole was recently discoveredwhen Paddys was remodeling.

Dennis checks himself out in the mirror.

DENNIS (CONTD)We are fortunate enough to have anexclusive -

MAC (O.S.)Frank? Frank, where the hell areyou? This opiums really messing

with me!

Dennis looks at Dee.

DENNIS(in his normal voice)

We can edit that out later.(back to the accent)

We are fortunate enough to have anexclusive look at these tunnels.

Dennis smiles.

DENNIS (CONTD)Lets go.

Dennis goes into the tunnel with Dee struggling to getthrough with the camera.

CUT TO:

INT. TUNNEL - LATER

Charlie comes to a dead end. He again tries to fit his pipeinto the many cracks in the wall, but is unsuccessful.

In a fit, he sits on a rock which opens up a wall revealing anew tunnel.

CHARLIE(as Nick Cage)

This ones for you gramps!


Frank walks down the tunnel in a daze. He hears the voicesof those there before him - prostitutes, gamblers andaddicts. He sees a light ahead and follows it.


Dennis heads down the tunnel as Dee walks backwards andrecords everything.

DENNIS(still with crappy accent)

It is along these walls thatthousands of Holocaust survivorsbegan their trek from Paddys tofreedom.

Dennis speeds up.

DENNIS (CONTD)Where they were going, no man hasseen in over fifty years.

Dennis stops near the split in the tunnel. Dee continueswalking backwards and runs into a tunnel wall.

DEEFirst of all, can you please slowdown?

DENNIS(back to his normal voice)

I cant slow down, this is how hedoes it. You cant keep up, Illfind a new crew.

DEESecond, that accent - not working.

DENNISAre you kidding? I sound just likehim.

MAC (O.S.)Dennis?

Mac approaches not looking so good.

DENNISYou dont look so good, buddy.

DEEWhat happened?

MAC(disoriented)

I cant remember.Frank...opium...Charlie...

Dennis and Dee look at each other.

DENNISOh, my god...Wheres Charlie?

Dennis grabs Mac and sits him down. Dee turns the camera offand walks up to them.

DENNISMac?

MAC(still lost)

Dennis?

Dee smacks Mac.

Dee smacks him again.

MACYeah, Im here. Wow, Im messedup.

Dee gets ready to smack Mac again, but Dennis stops her.

DENNISMac, we need to focus on whatsreally important here. Mac-

Dennis looks at Dee, then they both look at Mac.

DENNIS AND DEEWheres Charlie?

Mac points down the other tunnel. Dennis grabs Mac as theyhead that way.

CUT TO:

INT. END OF TUNNEL - LATER

Frank looks out over the Delaware. About twenty feet abovethe river, and still high on opium, he hears the VOICES ofthose before him.

VOICE1Get on the ship! Were going for alittle trip.

VOICE2We better do what he says. You saw

what happened to the others.

Frank sees a big rowing ship and a line full of others beingShanghaied to their destiny. He sees himself in shackles,holding up the line.

VOICE1What are you waiting for?

Frank jumps into the water.


Charlie looks at a tunnel wall and the pipe he found,confused.

DENNIS (O.S.)Charlie? Where are you?

Charlie perks up.

CHARLIEDennis?

MAC (O.S.)

Charlie?

CHARLIEMac?

DEE (O.S.)Charlie? Where are you?

CHARLIEDown here.

Charlie shines his flashlight down the tunnel.


Dee sees the light from Charlies flashlight.

DEEThere he is.

Dennis and Dee run over to Charlie. Mac lags behind.

DENNIS AND DEEShut up, Mac!

Mac sits back on a rock. Dennis and Dee look back atCharlie.

CHARLIE

But I made it through.(as Nick Cage)

I have seen many things so far onthis expedition.

Dennis and Dee look at each other. Dee points back down thetunnel.

DEEYou mean down THAT tunnel?

CHARLIEYes, I have fought many perils and-

Dennis points back.

DENNISThat tunnel right there, the one wejust walked down in 2 minutes?That one?

Hey...I almost got killed...found asecret door...a PIPE!

Dennis and Dee look at each other with hope.

DEEYou say you found a pipe, Charlie?

Charlie pulls out the ivory pipe.

DENNISNice work. Can we see it?

Charlie throws Dennis the pipe.

CHARLIEAnd now Im stuck. Im glad you

guys are here! Maybe you can helpme decipher.

Dee reads the wall.

DEEIf you are looking for thetreasure, put the pipe in the leftside.

CHARLIEI know, I think its Latin. Ivebeen sitting here for hours.

Dennis reads the wall.

DENNIS(slower)

If you are looking for thetreasure, put the pipe in the leftside.

(looking at Charlie)Its English, Charlie.

Mac laughs and rolls off his rock.

CHARLIENo its not. Its some...

DEEGod youre dumb.

DENNISSo, what are you waiting for? Putit in!

Charlie grabs the pipe, verifys his left hand, and puts itin - National Treasure Style.

EXT. HOLICAUST MUSEUM - CONTINUOUS

Hundreds gather around Mrs. Steninski who stands next to thecovered front of a building.

STENINSKIIt is with pride and generouscommunity support that we are ableto present this new museum.

INT. TUNNEL END - CONTINUOUS

The door swings open with great anticipation from the gang.Their flashlights shine in, revealing a sprawling room filled

with paintings.

CHARLIEOh-My-God!

Charlie runs in. Dennis and Dee follow with Mac closebehind. Charlies like a kid in a candy store.

Dennis turns to Dee.

DENNISWow! This is pretty amazing!

Dennis and Dee look around.

DEEI know. Look - Monet, Picasso,there must be over 200 paintings inhere.

Mac approaches Charlie and wraps his arm around him.

MACThis is great, Charlie.

Charlie smiles.

CHARLIEI know! This is the happiest dayof my life!

Mac pulls Charlie in and stares at him.

Charlie gets an idea. He pulls his shirt off.

Dennis and Dee are admiring the paintings.

DENNISIsnt that the Scream paintingstolen from Norway a few years ago?

DEEAnd look at this one. This VanGogh was heisted last year inSwitzerland.

Dennis looks at Dee.

DENNISDid you see that show on theHistory Channel last night?

DEEThat was a great show. I didntrealize there were so many stolenpaintings.

Dennis and Dee look around.

DENNISAnd it looks like weve found them

all.

DEEYou know, the more I watch thatstation...

Dennis sniffs around.

DENNISYou smell gas?

Charlie wraps his shirt around his flashlight and dips it inthe trough that goes around the cave - National Treasurestyle.

CHARLIE(as Nick Cage)

Heres to you, grandpa.

Charlie lights the torch and it immediately burst intoflames.

Dennis runs over in slow motion.

DENNISNooo!

Charlie drops the burning flashlight in the trough.

The trough lights up the room, the paintings and anythingelse flammable.

They gang looks at each other, including a suddenly soberMac.

They all run out of the cave entrance. Charlie pulls thepipe out of the wall and the door closes.

The gang pauses.

CHARLIE

Boy, that was close.

Everybody nods as they all head back down the tunnel toPaddys.

EXT. HOLICAUST MUSEUM - CONTINUOUS

Services continue with Mrs. Steninski at the podium.

MRS. STENINSKISo with out further delay, Ipresent our new museum.

The big banner lifts from the front of the building.Everybody claps.

MRS. STENINSKI (CONTD)This building, I am proud to say,is a board for board restoration ofthe original wood church thatserved as a safe haven forthousands of victims.

Smoke is rising from the front of the building.

MRS. STENINSKI (CONTD)Without the outreach from thecommunity -

A LADY in the audience looks concerned.

LADYDo I smell smoke?

Dennis, Dee, Mac and Charlie watch the news.

ANNOUNCER (V.O.)Our top story is the burning of thenew Holocaust Museum in SouthPhilly.

DEEHey thats just down the block.Turn it up!

Dennis grabs the remote.

ANNOUNCER (V.O.)Investigators are still lookinginto this bizarre fire at abuilding that this community hasput so much money and hard workinto.

Dennis turns off the TV. The gang looks at each other.After a pause, Charlie points to his left.

CHARLIEIs that what they were building

down the road?

DEEYeah, were lucky that fire didntspread.

CHARLIEI thought that was going to be aStarBucks or something.

MACI heard a pizza shop.

The gang nods.

DENNISInteresting. Well, at least wedidnt get hurt.

MACOh yeah. I tell you, I am NEVERdoing opium again.

DEEYeah, that was pretty stupid,

The gang nods.

CHARLIEI feel like somethings missing.

The front door of Paddys swings open and a COP walks in witha cold, shivering Frank.

DENNISFrank!

FRANKSee, I told you I know these guys.

COPHe was found swimming in theDelaware.

DEEWell, thanks for bringing him back.

DENNISYeah... Do we owe you something

for this?

Dennis reaches for his wallet. The Cop puts his hand up.

COPJust keep him out of the river,please.

The Cop walks out.
