Foundation Certificate in Staff Development

WhoShouldAttend?

This highly participative and practicalquali�cation combines hands-on training with the fundamental knowledge and skills requiredto design and deliver a range of training activitiesin the workplace.

The Foundation Certi�cate will enable those employed in training, assessment or vocational education to gain entry into the Institute of Training and Occupational Learning as an Associate Member. The Foundation Cert�cate will enable individuals to assemble and deliver sound, e�ective, basic training sessions, programmes or workshops.

You will be given the opportunity to practiceand develop your skills in a supportiveenvironment with individual feedback.

No previous experience will be assumed.

The quali�cation is aimed for:

SuccessCriteria

The programme director must be able to verify that:• The candidate has completed the programme• The candidate has demonstrated training skills during the programme that have been assessed as satisfactory against specified criteria by the lead tutor.

This is an incredibly practical programme inwhich all learners will have the opportunityto practise key trainer skills. In addition,there is tutor input on key concepts and group discussion around issues in whichall trainers face, this will be supplementedby substantial Self-Learning material.

Learning will be consolidated by the completion of a substantial work-based assignment which will require additional work in the learner’s own time.

SuccessCriteria

The programme director must be able to verify that:

• The candidate has demonstrated training skills that have been assessed assatisfactory by the lead tutor. These skills include: the facilitation of learning in groups, giving feedback, identifying individual learning needs and facilitating learning by demonstration and one to one instruction.

The candidate has maintained a workbook and a reflective learning journalthroughout the programme.

The candidate has completed the programme.

• The candidate has completed a written assignment relating to the courseprogramme. The precise nature of the assignment and the criteria for itsassessment are to be determined by the group with appropriate guidanceby the tutorial team. Initial assessment and feedback will be undertaken by the group, led by the course tutors, with final marking by the Programme Director.

This advanced qualification provides a professional foundation for experienced L&D professionals who have, or are seeking, a more influential position within the training profession. The programme seeks to providean in-depth understanding of a range of concepts relating to the role of learning and development within organisations and also to develop skills which contribute to the success of the role.

The programme will enhance professional credibility and increase competence and confidence. It willprovide a depth of knowledge and expertise to enable proactive contribution and support which adds value to the organisation or client.

The candidate has demonstrated a satisfactory understanding and skill level in relation to the key programme content.

The candidate has completed a written assignment relating to the programme which has beenmarked as satisfactory. The assignment would normally be around 4500 words.

The course fee for 2009 is £2795 plus VAT, payable before commencement of the programme.
