Dear Friends,

Welcome to Hospis Malaysia’s “Voices for Hospices 2017” auction. This is an online auction in conjunction with our “Voices for Hospices” gala dinner.

This year, the theme for the event is ‘With You – Let Us Not Leave Anyone Suffering Behind’, reminding us that in order for every person suffering a serious illness to receive the support they need, everybody needs to get involved.

We therefore appeal to you to “Get Involved With Us”, bysupporting this fund raising initiative and bid generously for your preferred items. All proceeds raised from this auction will go towards supporting the services provided by Hospis Malaysia. As a leading provider of palliative care services in the country, our aim is to provide the highest possible level of palliative care services to patients and their families in the Klang Valley, and to train healthcare professionals and allied healthcare workers from across the country and the region, interested in the practice of palliativecare.

The auction will run from 25 October to 12 November 2017. To participate in the auction, please indicate your bid for the item(s) of your choice via our online auction form which is provided in the link below.

ABOUT JOLLY KOHDr. Jolly Koh studied and lived in the U.K., U.S. and Australia for many years and has exhibited his works in the U.S., Australia, Thailand, Brazil and India. He is considered one of the pioneers of the Malaysian modern art movement. His works have been collected by numerous local and international museums, corporations, banks and hotels – amongst them the J.D. Rockefeller III Collection in New York, the National Art Gallery in Victoria, Australia, the Kasama Nichido Museum of Art in Japan, Bank Negara Malaysia and The Fullerton Hotel in Singapore as well as the Kuala Lumpur Hilton. Jolly Koh’s exploration into colour and space result in works of sublime magnificence. In his paintings, he aims to invoke a feeling of enjoyment for his viewers. “I believe a painting must be beautiful in order to be able to fulfil its function of uplifting the soul”, he said.

ABOUT JALAINI “JAI” ABU HASSAN Born in Selangor in 1963, Jai’s story is one of change, struggle, adaptability, survival and good fortune. His work holds a special place in contemporary Malaysian art, consistently exploring and pushing the boundaries of painting in new and exciting ways, while investigating local forms and local life as he has experienced them. Jai has exhibited in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, China, the U.S., the UK, Spain and Iraq. His works are in the collection of the National Art Gallery in Malaysia, and in private, corporate and gallery collections around the world.

Lunar Tide III 汐 III is one of the 23 paintings from his New Mindscapes - Wind, Flower, Snow, Moon (风花雪月 - Feng Hua Xue Yue). This body of work is a further exploration of the Inner World series. It is an outcome of over 30 years of personal reflection, a journey culminating in a expression of his mind and heart.

ABOUT HOE SAY YONGBorn in Batu Pahat, Johor in 1956, Hoe Say Yong’s works have been exhibited in Singapore, Indonesia, South Korea, Japan, Belgium, Thailand, China, Vietnam and Taiwan. TUG art in a sea of colours: Phillip Wong’s latest excursion, The Human Mind: Reflection, simulates the ocean and the sea where the viewers can tug their mind to reveal certain positive or negative points. Known for his vibrant pointillist canvas approximating the art of neuroscience simulating infinite space, Phillip Wong also works with Found and recyclable objects to relate art to a green environment.

ABOUT PHILLIP WONGBorn in Seremban, Phillip Wong has had a passion for art from a young age. A renowned artist, he has specialised in glass paint since 1993. Phillip Wong has received the Grand Prize from the Asia Art Award at Seoul, South Korea, along with being appointed to the committee of Asia Invitation Art Exhibition. He was also a board-of-trustee member of the National Visual Arts Gallery Kuala Lumpur from 2008-2011.

ABOUT SC SHEKARA renowned photo-journalist with over 30 years’ experience, Shekar’s interests and professional pursuits have taken him all over the world from New York City to Istanbul and throughout Southeast Asia.
