We are looking for at least four candidates to run for three open spots on the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors serves the com- munity by setting policies, determining assessments, determining how the home- owners association (HOA) spends its funds, and setting priorities for spending these funds. Each homeowner has the skill sets and abilities to be on the Board of Directors. Please consider throwing your hat into the ring to move this community forward. The other option is to have our management company establish policies, and determine how and when funds are spent by and for our com- munity. I would choose that we have community members assume that crucial role. There will be several opportunities to learn about the elec- tion process, how to complete the requirements to run, and to understand the responsibilities of a Board member. The meet- ing will be held on Thursday, February 6, at 9:30am in the Clubhouse’s card room. I urge you to take advantage of this session. The elections committee is also planning to explore the use of online voting. This would take place this year. The elections would be conducted by a company that has 15 years experience in this type of election. This company provides for anonymous voting and the option to use a paper ballot as well. Residents have options to come to the Clubhouse and vote, vote at home, as well as voting on their smart Continued on Page 3 Seeking Candidate Nominations For Parke Board of Directors From Dale Buley, Chair The Board of Directors reactivated the Nominating/Elec- tion Committee at its August 28, 2013, meeting to be chaired by Board vice president Dale Buley. The Committee held its initial meeting on September 12 and appointed Harold Fin- gerhut as vice chair and Kathy Mundie as secretary. Other members include Jeri and Jack Scott, Peg Robinson, Pat Addy, Mary Henderson, and Bruce Jarvis. The 2014 Nominating/Election Committee is working to attract qualified residents to become candidates to fill three Board of Director positions whose two-year terms soon ex- pire. The process is now underway as “Call for Nomination” announcements were mailed to each Parke residence around January 31. The announcement lists the qualifications required to be a candidate. A form is attached to the announcement for the candidate to complete and return to the Nominating/Elec- tion Committee. All nominations must be returned by Friday, March 14. Candidates are also requested to participate in a “Meet the Candidate” forum to be held on Saturday, April 19, at 1:30pm in the Parke Clubhouse. Continued on Page 4

In early December Steve Habeger spent 25 hours embarked on CVN-71, USS Theodore Roosevelt - a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, underway off the Virginia/North Carolina coast. The carrier was conducting air operations during both night and day. Steve flew onto the ship in a C-2 aircraft (the arrested landing was quite a stop) and departed the ship with a catapult assisted takeoff in a similar aircraft. The C-2, with 26 people and some cargo aboard, went from zero to 120 miles per hour in 2.5 seconds!!

Annual Town Meeting with Judy Boggs

It’s Valentine’s Day ByGloriaRichardsThere is something about the hearts and flowers of Februarythat could make husbands very contrary and little merry. The pressure is on to remember flowers…a card…or a box of sweets, all in the name of affection, or hope for a roll in the sheets. Now I don’t think St. Valentine had such thoughts in mind, when in prison he healed the jailer’s child who was blind. So, relax men...don’t worry and certainly don’t fret. There’s always a Walmart nearby lest you forget.
