Jonathan Charles Fine Furniture produces dozens of collections comprising
thousands of designs. Sometimes, unforeseen high demand of certain items
may mean not all of our products are in stock at all times. We understand and
appreciate, however, that when a customer orders a Jonathan Charles piece they
are excited and anxious to take delivery as soon as possible. To address this we
have implemented a three-tier priority program to enable us to better manage our
inventory to get your item to you in the shortest possible time.
Quick Ship item
Beginning in September 2010, the Quick Ship program will include a number of
select items which we will keep in available inventory and guarantee delivery of
within 1 to 6 weeks.
Standard item
Included in our Standard Items are about 800 products that we endeavour to keep
in stock but we are unable to guarantee will be in our inventory at the time you
place your order. However, when placing your order we advise you to first check the
availability of your desired items, as these may already be available for immediate
shipping. Those items that are not currently in stock will be guaranteed to be
available in 12 weeks or less.
Special order item
Great style should never be discontinued. Because we never know what our
customers might be interested in down the road, all Jonathan Charles furniture
designs, past and current, are available “made to order”. Should you require
something that we do not currently have in stock we will provide you with an
estimated timeframe for producing and delivering the item of your choice so that
you can make an informed decision about whether to proceed with the order.

Marquetry
Marquetry is an intricate technique developed during the
early 16th century in Europe which involves covering the
structural carcass with pieces of veneer cut by hand to
make decorative detail. Inspired by history and tradition,
we are keeping this amazing craft alive through our
products and designs. Our artisans at Jonathan Charles
master the skill of genuine hand-cut marquetry and are
inspired by the almost limitless creativity in this art form.

We like to think of our custom-made
hardware as jewelry for our furniture. At
Jonathan Charles we design the hardware
at the same time as we design the furniture
to really give each piece its own, unique,
highly-customized look. Our foundry is on
the factory premises, which gives us the
flexibility to design items that are unique to
each individual piece of furniture, whether
it be a handle, a lock or other decorative
element. For us, it is the hardware that
brings all other details together to create the
final completed work of art. Our hardware
is cast in brass which we create using
copper, zinc and tin in order to achieve the
appearance of an item that has been in use
for hundreds of years.

Wood carving
The carvers at Jonathan Charles are arguably the highest-skilled
craftsmen in our factory. Carving is an art that speaks for itself, and
our team of carving artisans are some of the best in the business. None
of our carving is molded or applied. We use only traditional hand-

Taking Care of Your Fine Furniture
Wood
Every piece of wood is unique, which means that every piece of wood furniture is unique. As a result you may notice a slight variation in the finish sheen of some items. This is natural and adds to the uniqueness and authenticity of each piece. For day-to-day cleaning, a soft, dry cloth will suffice to remove dust and restore the sheen of your furniture. Additionally we recommend an occasional application of pure bees wax to help retain the character of the wood. Simply apply the wax to the surface, allow some time for it to harden and then rub away the excess with a soft, dry cloth.
Leather
We use genuine untreated cow leather, which we process and color at our factory to give it an aged, authentic look. As the leather gets older and is used more it will begin to take on more characteristics of an actual aged leather piece, adding even more to the genuine feeling of the item. We recommend using a damp (not too wet!) cloth to clean the leather, followed by a dry cloth to remove any excess moisture. It’s as simple as that to keep your piece clean, while maintaining the beautiful antique look.
Brass
Our custom-crafted brass hardware are the finishing touch, the crowning jewels, of a Jonathan Charles piece. To keep the brass details of your item looking their best, we suggest using a lightly-damp or dry cloth to gently wipe over the surface, taking care to allow a bit of the residue and imperfections to remain to maintain its aged, used appearance.
Eglomisé
Eglomisé is a traditional technique of decorative glass painting dating back to Egyptian times. It is a very delicate, elaborate and imperfect craft, which gives each piece its own distinct character. The exposed part of the Eglomisé is all glass and is safe to clean with regular household glass cleaner.
