with many events occurring throughoutthe college. Ocean View College isnow heavily focused on its readiness
for International Baccalaureate verification of The
Middle Years Progralnme occurring over the comirig
weeks. lt has been a long journey and we'all look
forward to the IB teams visiting our college and the
recommendations they offer for further development as
an IB candidate school.Course counselling for subjert selections in 2013 has
been a significant focus recently with a very successful
"senior School ParEnt/Student lnformation Evening"held in our Flexible Learning Centre. I was extremelypleased to see well over 180 families attend thisimportant information evening and then view our new
Senior School Study Area. Congratulations to the
Senior School team on their organisation and to ourSenior School Food and Hospitality students whocatered for this event. Significant focus has been given
to supporting our students and parents/caregivers as
they make important decisions about subjmt selections
in 2073 and career planning for the future- Students
from Year 9 to Year l l have becn given specific
course counselling days and resources including our
2Ol3B-12 Curriculum Handbook to support successful
counsellin g oaltcomes.
I would like to acknowledge the outstanding
achievement of Jessica Dixon a Year 5 student in Ms
Jane Davies's class who recently competed ingymnastics at State Championship level held at Marion
Fitness and Leisure Centre. She competed in beam'
vault, floor and bars and was awarded Level 4 Under
I I State Champion. Congratulations Jessica!

delivered to the Centre. The cubbY

put on display, which has created more colour in the

Last week the Life Education Vanwas at Ocean View College. Each
Junior School slass was involved ina health education lesson in the van-
The Life Education program focuses on teaching
children about maintaining a healthy lifestyle and
looking after their bodies in a range of ways (eg
sleep, diet, cleanliness, etc). On behalf of the
Junibr School staff I would like to thank LifeEducation teachers Roz and Richard for teaching
the program to our students. All Junior School
students attended Life Education as it was a part
of the Junior School health program. Some
students still have not paid. Reminder notes were
sent home with students this week. If yow child
has not paid please pay $2.00 to Jenny in the
office as soon as possible. Thank you!

This week was Book Week. The theme this yearwas 'Champions Read'. On Monday the childrenviewed a performance called Noises for Kids.The children thoroughly enjoyed the performance.On Tuesday Junior School students and staffparticipated in the annual Book Week Parade.Students won prizes for the most creativecostumes. Thank you to the many families whosupported Book Week by organising costumesand attending the parade. The children get veryexcited when parents attend school events andsupport their children's learning experiences.Special thanks to Leah McGlinchey, the PeerMediators, Resource Centre staff and Mr Lee fororganising the parade and assisting on the day.Thank you also to Mr Mclaren and Mrs Mooneyfor assisting with the judging which is alwaysextremely difficult. Congratulations to Goldmedal winners Amy Pennington and MaureenTouli, Silver medal winners Dyani Montgomerieand Shaun Brown and Bronze medal winnersEmma Saunders and Cody Robinson. This year aspecial class prize was awarded to Mrs McPhee'sclass for their outstanding presentation of theBook Week theme 'Champions Read'. Middle School NewsCourse Counselling is on this week andit is a most important time for our Year8 and Year 9 students. All studentswould have received a 2013 Course
lnformation Booklet and would have made anappointment time to choose their subjects for nextyear. If any family missed out on their appointmentcould they please ring me to organise another time,
I attended the Middle School Music Evening last weekand it was wonderful to see our students singing,playing instruments and participating in differentbands. A great evening and thankyou to all of theparents/caregivers who attended and to Ms Baker andher music stafffor organising it.On Tuesday our Year 7 and 8 girls were invited to atalk from UNI SA about a GAME TALK -Research isbeing conducted about girls activity and movement.All girls received information about it and there will beanother meeting next week for participating students.Girls can you please get the consents signed and returnby Thursday 30m August.Our Clowns are performing at the Port Power gamethis Saturday. If you are going to see Power playBrisbane Lions come and see the clowning troupebefore the game. They will be outside Gate 4. Thegame begins at l2.Npm.Interim Reports were cbnducted by all staff last weekand letters were sent home to families of students whoare not performing to the best of their abilities. If youreceived a letter I hope that you can talk to your childabout it and perhaps ring the school and talk to someof the teachers named in the letter. Senior School NewsCourse counselling has been underway inthe Resource centre over three days thisweek for years 9,10 and ll. Coursecounsellors have appreciated those
students that have done their homework in filling outthe practice subject planners and have discussed theirsubject choices with their parents/caregivers.Several Year 12s took advantage of the visit to ourcollege by the Adelaide University tertiary pathwayscounsellors. Students and their parents were givenadvice and tlpically more options to think about
around futurepathways and courseselection. TonyDuggan also took abreak from the one-on- one sessions todeliver apresentation to our
Year 12s about student life at Adelaide Uni. He
emphasised the increased flexibility in tertiary course
selection and the ability to change course dirationonce accepted in to an initial program.
Next Tuesday we have asked all of our yez.r 12
students to book into a brief session to discuss their
future pathways and to help gather any needed
information in readiness for the SATAC online tertiary

Curriculum News2012 has been a year of change for Curriculumdelivery at Ocean View College. Our aim is always toprovide engaging and relevant learning for our
students.In the Junior School, students have been learning
Science and Maths content and skills as outlinedwithin the New Australian Curriculum.The Middle School is also making changes tocurriculum content in line with the Australian
Curriculum. The delivery of this content is very much
ernbedded within the ideals of the IB, focusing on
holistic learning, intercultural awareness and
communication and criterion based assessment.As a result of these
changes a team ofdedicated staff fromjunior, middle and
senior schoolinghave been meetingregularly to decideon changes to ourreport structures and
World VisionCongratulations to all the students who participated inthe 40 hour famine on the weekend - there were some
very interesting stories about what students had gone
without! Remember, you can still do the 40 HourFamine even though 18"' August is the timerecommended by World Vision. [t's never too late.
Thanks to the many classes who have organised
special events to raise money - lots of people are
feeling very guilty after eating so many delicious cup-

Production which was scheduled to take place last
week (Term 3 Week 5) had to be postponed until this
week (Term 3 Week 6). So if you haven't yet seen this
show then you need to clear your diary and have a look
at some talented thespians.The Year 12 Group Production "Blithe Spfrir" is an
improbable farce by Nodl Coward and concerns
socialite and novelist Charles Condomine, who invites
the eccentric medium and clairvoyant, Madame Arcati.to his house to conduct a s6ance, hoping to gather
material for his next book. The scheme backfires
when he is haunted by the ghost of his annoying and
temperamental frst wife, Elvira, following the seance.
Elvira makes continual atternpts to disrupt Charles's
marriage to his second wife, Ruth, who cannot see orhear the ghost. This"show will be performed on
Wednesda*y 22d, Thursday 23"d and Friday 24th
