22 years later, my first impression was:

The Path To RenovationIn anticipation of a remodeling project, the Youth Services Staff:
• Established the goal for the Youth Services area
“To create a room that is comfortable, user-friendly and able to accommodate the changing needs of the diverse groups that we serve.”

• Defined the major areas to be addressed:
1. Provide more comfortable seating areas.
2. Expand the audiovisual area.
3. Improve the visibility and attractiveness of the Youth Services entry.
4. Add quiet spaces for groups and individuals.

Do your homework. Go out and see as many libraries as you possibly can. Document everything in writing and photos.

The length of the end piece is 24”, while bins are only 22” across.The handles on the bins are 2 ½” tall and 5” long.The top bins are 11” across, 9 ½ “ front to back, and 6” deep.

Don’t be intimidated by their expertise. Yes, they are experts in their field, but you are the expert on your community and your library patrons.

Do not be afraid to speak up. If you have an idea, tell them about it. It is their job to figure out if it can work in the master plan.
