University of Arkansas, United States Department of Agriculture and County Governments Cooperating
Howard County 4-H was well represented at the Ouachi-
ta District O-Rama held recently. “4-H Goes Wild” is the
theme of the 2018 O-Ramas. Congratulations to all who
participated! Eight participants placed first in their com-
petitions. They included: Abbie Lamb-Food Fair, Katilynn
Hanney-Fashion Revue, Logan Wilson-Crop & Seed ID,
Lilli Medlin-Consumer Economics, Delaney Ford-
Entomology Collection, Kiersten Priddy-Public Speaking,
Ashyln Newton-Fashion Revue, and Codie Jamison-
Consumer Economics.
Kiersten Priddy was recognized as a winner in the
Statewide 4-H Poster Art competition.
Twelve members were recognized as District Record
Book Winners. Beginner winners included: Sarah Lamb-
Animal Science, Adelene Westfall-Arts & Humanities, Lilli
Medlin-Leadership, Wyatt Hanney-Citizenship, Christian
Trombley-Technology & Engineering, Anthony Trombley
-Technology & Engineering, and Delaney Ford-
Entomology. Intermediate winners were Caelan Pearson
-Swine, Alex Trombley-Animal Science, Abbie Lamb-
Foods & Nutrition, Ashlyn Hipp-Housing & Home Envi-
ronment, and Nick Trombley-Technology & Engineering.
Thirty-four 4-H members, leaders, agents, and parents
helped bring home the Spirit Award! This was the first
time Howard County has received the award! Other 4-H
members participating included Anna Sweat, Savannah
Wilson, and Sarah Sweat.
District O-Rama
4-H Ambassadors
Codie Jamison and Katilynn Hanney were
chosen as 2019 4-H Ambassadors at the
recent Teen Leader Conference. Both 4-
Hers received recognition as 4-H Teen
Stars in 2017. They had to complete an
application, and participate in an inter-
view session. As an Arkansas 4-H Ambas-
sador, they will be responsible for plan-
ning and conducting the 2019 4-H Teen
Leader Conference, promoting 4-H in the
county and dis-
trict, and judging
4-H events in
other counties.
This is a prestig-
ious leadership
position. Con-

Clover Crews News
4-H Volunteer Leader Forum
Volunteers, mark your calendar for the Fall 4-H Volun-
teer Leader Forum scheduled for Saturday, August 11
from 9:00 to 3:30. This forum will pro-
vide you with new ideas to help improve
your club meetings. The training will also
count toward your four hours of annual
training. Samantha will be presenting at
the training. All volunteer leaders are encouraged to
attend. The cost is $25 for the day. Lunch will be provid-
ed. The location is still be determined, but if you are
interested in attending, you can register online or call
the Extension Office at 870-845-7517 for more infor-
mation.
Howard County at Teen Leader Conference
Four 4-H members participated in the 2018 Arkansas Teen Leader Conference held June 13-15 at the C.A. Vines Arkansas 4-H Center in Ferndale. Those partici-pating included Caelan Pearson, Abbie Lamb, Katilynn Hanney and Codie Jamison.
Caelan Pearson was recognized as an Arkansas 4-H Teen Star during a special banquet held the first night of the
conference. Only a select few of 4-H members across the state achieve this honor.
Cloverbud Camp
A Cloverbud Camp will be held Thursday, August 2 at
the Nashville City Park from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
Several fun activities are being planned including an
obstacle course, making your own Smoothies, and craft
activity. The cost for the camp is $5.00 per person to
cover the cost of supplies. This camp will be just for Clo-
verbud 4-H members ages 5-8.
Teens are welcome to assist in
teaching the day camp. Please call
the office to register for this fun
and educational program at 870-
845-7517 by July 30.
Six Members Attend State Camps
Alex Trombley, Sara Sweat, Abbie Lamb, Caelan Pear-
son, and Ashlyn Hipp attended 4-H Adventure and Chal-
lenge Camp the last week of June at the C.A. Vines Ar-
kansas 4-H Center. The purpose of
the camp is to challenge partici-
pants to push themselves to set
and reach new goals. They
achieved this by completing the
Ropes Course, Rock Climbing Wall,
and Jacob’s Ladder challenge
courses. They also learned team-
work skills throughout the three day camp. Both Caelan
Pearson and Abbie Lamb received “Camper Awards”.
Christian Trombley attended the 4-H Junior Camp. The
theme of the camp was “Mardi Gras”. Participants
made parade floats and had their own “mock” Mardi
Gras! In addition, they participated in all the activities
the center offers including canoeing, fishing, hiking,
craft activities, swimming and many more. County Ex-
tension Agent-Agriculture, Samantha Kroll chaperoned
the group.

Swine Jackpot Show
A Swine Jackpot Show will be held on Saturday, July 21
at the Howard County Fairground. We will be hosting
our first Lucky Clover Showdown. This is a great
opportunity for our livestock youth to get some
volunteer hours. All money made from the
show will go toward Howard County Show
Team. If you are able to help please call Mrs. Cecilia and
let her know. The show starts at 8:30pm. I will set up a
schedule for you to work and will get back with
you on what time you need to be there.

Howard County Fair
The Howard County Fair will be September 3-8, 2018. If
your club is planning on having an educational fair booth,
please let the office know by calling 870-845-7517 so a
space will be reserved. All craft items, canned goods, pho-
tography and household arts items will be entered on
Tuesday, September 4 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. You
can pick up your items on Sunday, September 9 from 2:00
to 4:00 p.m.
Start gathering your items now! Think about items made
at club meetings, workshops or in school. Also enter your
Ross Photography pictures!
Remember all pictures need to
be matted on 11”x 14” mats.
No frames for photographs.
Artwork should be framed and
be ready to hang. Clothing
items should be clean, pressed
and on a hanger. The fair tabloids will be ready in early
August. Be sure to look at the rules for entering your
items! Tabloids will be available at the office.
Livestock If you are showing livestock, there a
few important dates you need to re-
member. On July 20 and 23, Ms. Sa-
mantha will pull DNA on all market
animals, if you ordered a state fair tag
from the office. She will be out one of
these two days. July 31 is the online registration dead-
line for market animals at state fair. Breeding and Com-
mercial animals online deadline registration is Septem-
ber 1. If you plan to take rabbits and/or chickens to
state fair, registration papers have to be mailed in by
September 15. These can be found on the Arkansas
State Fair website.
District Fair is September 25 – 29. All animals must be
in place by 6:00pm Wednesday. Online entries will
begin August 1 and close on September 5 for livestock.
If you are taking animals to district, be sure you let Ms.
Samantha know, so we can get them entered.
County Fair: A livestock entry form is in this news-
letter. If you need another copy, come by the office and
pick one up or call the office and we will email one to
you. They are due back to the office by July 31 (be sure
to sign the front and back). For those that show dairy
goats: there have been some changes made to this
year’s fair book. YOU CAN show your dairy goats that
are over the age of two.
Cattlemen’s Meeting
If you are showing livestock at county fair, you need to
plan on bringing a dessert to the Cattlemen’s meeting
August 14. We need to be there by 5:15 with the des-
serts. Please call the office and let Mrs. Cecilia know
what kind of dessert you will be bring and if you are go-
ing to be able to attend the meeting.
If you cannot attend the meeting,
please make arrangements to bring
your dessert by the office or to send
it with someone.
Simmental Regionals
We had great representation at the Simmental Regional
show in June. Extemporaneous Speaking, Sales Talk,
Genetics Quiz, Cattleman’s Quiz, and Livestock Judging
were all on the competition menu, which is what build-
ing future leaders and agricultural advocates is all
about. Congratulation Sara Sweat, Anna Sweat, Kier-
sten Priddy, and Gatlin Priddy.
