“As well as improving the quality of your home life, an Istana designed space will give your property instant appeal and help you command a premium price on the housing market.”

Transforming ordinary places into extraordinary spaces

Space planning

Istana’s plans concentrate on flow and function: they consider every aspect, from the layout of your furniture to where your light fittings and electrical sockets are positioned. Even the smallest detail can have a huge impact on how you connect with your space. That’s why we work closely with you to get them right.

Design consultancy

How your space looks is just as important as how you use it. This is where Istana’s design consultancy comes into play. Istana will take time to get to know your tastes, lifestyle and needs, designing a scheme that is exactly right for you. We are extremely versatile, working comfortably with colours or neutrals, patterns or plains.

At Istana we work with our customers to ensure that their homes are a pleasure to live in. We begin by getting to know you and your abode. We look at the way you move around and use your home – in design speak we call this the ‘function’ and ‘flow’ of your spaces. With you, we talk about what you like about your space as well as what you’d like to improve. We then go away and work our magic.

Visualising your project

We take the time to work with you every step of the way and help you to visualise your new scheme through sample boards, elevations and plans. The look and feel of your scheme are captured in your own client book.

Sourcing and buying

Sourcing the items to complete your design project can be overwhelming if you go it alone. At Istana, we make life easy for you, sourcing and costing all fittings, furniture and homeware to give your home that all-important wow factor.

As well as giving you a helping hand, we also pass on enticing trade discounts. Customers benefiting from these favourable rates often find that using Istana costs less than going it alone.

Transforming your space

Istana aims to transform your spaces with minimum disruption to you and your household. We can store all your items for you until your chosen installation day. We will then dress your spaces with your items – from armchairs to armoires, cushions to curtains – to complete the transformation.

“ There are two elements of interior design: science and art. Our space planning considers how things work and what we can improve, while our design consultancy allows us to create homes that both look and feel beautiful.”

Changing spaces

This project centred on improving the flow from one room into another and maximising light and space.

Removing the wall between the bedroom and dressing room creates a lighter, more spacious area with distinct sleeping and dressing quarters. The king-size bed is positioned opposite a large window with garden views, and a chest of drawers sits neatly in a nearby corner. In the dressing area, bespoke wardrobes are built in and a footstool added where clothes and accessories can be laid out. In the bathroom, internal walls are knocked out and a sliding door installed to create more space.

Getting the look

Our customers opted for a mid-century look and selected a colour palette of grey, teal and yellow.

A teal velvet upholstered bed is the center-piece of the sleeping quarters, flanked by vibrant yellow and white table lamps on mid-century style furniture. Teal is also echoed on the bed cushions and trim of the window blinds, while further yellow accents appear on a patterned footstool in the dressing area. These hues are also picked up in humming-bird artwork, bringing a splash of colour to calming grey walls and wardrobe doors.

The bathroom boasts a stylish white suite, with a double shower replacing an unwanted bath. Grey patterned floor tiles give the room a striking retro twist, linking it seamlessly to the adjoining bedroom.

“ Louise has turned our bedroom into a beautiful sanctuary. Resisting the urge to slope off for an afternoon nap is becoming more and more difficult as a result.”

Bringing the project together

All products were sourced by and purchased through Istana, with trade discounts passed on to the customer. Istana managed the project from start to finish, including commissioning the upholstery of the bed, arranging delivery of all furniture, coordinating the fitting of blinds and even plumping the pillows before bringing this design project to a close.
