MG controlled vocabulary:

• >1200 preferred terms (plus equivalent terms)

denoting objects and materials

• extracted from the documentation of

ethnographic museums and art galleries

Reasons for linking with the AAT:

• The controlled vocabulary was structured into

a thesaurus

• Multilinguality

As expected, it turned out that English and

Greek encode somewhat diverging

conceptualisations of the world

Accommodating χα κώμα α in the AAT

How is χα ώ α α different from

αση ι ά, γ α ι ά?

Χα ώ α α does not

seem to have an

artistic dimension,

therefore function is

used as a

classificatory trait.
