- OUR ISLAND HOME
WITH THE GRADE 3/4’s
We are on the home stretch with our learning in Area 2 and looking forward to a fun filled term ahead!
Students have been stretching their problem solving abilities in Mathematics with a range of open-ended tasks and problems and will get a chance to practise their creative and critical thinking skills at our ‘Crack it!’ incursion on Monday the 12th of November. We have also been completing weekly ‘Number talks’; these give students an opportunity to extend their learning, find multiple solutions to a problem and explain their strategies to a friend. Take a look at our students doing some open ended mathematics tasks below.
This Term Grade 3/4 students will also be learning all about Geography in our unit, ‘Our Island Home’. Students will look at different climate zones, maps of the world, vegetation and study our nearest neighbours. Students will be able to work together in small groups to create their very own island and present this to their classmates.

A huge thankyou to two families who have supported our Library with great generosity. Eva Mills (mum of Esther) from the publishing company Ellen and Unwin has donated a range of books as a thankyou for the help some of our students provided as book reviewers. Amanda Shaw (mum of Caitlin) from Hardie Grant Egmont also very generously donated books from this company. We received over a 100 books in all which we look forward to processing and getting onto our borrowing shelves. Thanks to both families for helping our Library grow!

Now the witch’s dust has settled and we’ve got the zombies back in their coffins we can now reflect on what an amazing time everyone had at Saturday’s Halloween Fest! There were an array of fantastic costumes and of course good times all around. We will have more news and photos in our next edition but we would like to take this opportunity to thank a range of important people who were part of the team that lead to this great day. The following did an incredible job in the listed roles: Linda Kerr - ticketing,
equipment and marketing; Sonya Carroll - decorations; Sarah Padley - tick-eting and donations; Adam Cassidy - Spooktacular arena entertainment; Sally Child - sponsorship and donations; Renee Phelps - sponsorship and donations; Amy Worth - Boos and Brews; Jess Aloi - finance and Square devices; Hannah Mcmahon - finance and floats; Anu Alexander - raffle and auction; Zoe Crawforth - collateral (logo, posters etc); and Sylvie Hutchins - raffle and auction. We have also had the following coordinators for each of our stalls and major contributors: Lou Johnson, Lou Patterson, Sammi Stone, Elise Boxer, Stewart Irwin, So-phie Bisset, Matt Bisset, Mel Spinks, Kylie Hill, Sarah Carter Curtis, Eleanor Thomas, Cath Donnison, Skye Walker, Krysia Mosley, Monica Coghlan, Lyndsay St Ledger, Wing Lee, Amy Keane, Sally Welbourn, James Welbourn and Nick Brass. And of course a huge thankyou to our incredible Halloween Fest co-ordinator, Ellie Hedger. It was Ellie who first approached School Council with the idea that we base our Fair on a ‘Halloween’ theme. She has been instrumental in organising every facet of the event and her incredible level of problem solving and unflappable demeanour has been pivotal to the event’s success. The school owes you a huge debt of gratitude, Ellie. Congratulations to you and your crew for an amazingly successful event!
