The Christmas Angel

One particular Christmas season a long time ago, Santa was getting ready for his annual trip ... but there were problems everywhere. Four of his elves got sick, and the trainee elves did not produce the toys as fast as the regular ones so Santa was beginning to feel the pressure of being behind schedule.

Then Mrs. Claus told Santa that her mother was coming to visit. This stressed Santa even more.

When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two had jumped the fence and were out, heaven knows where. More stress.

Then when he began to load the sleigh one of the boards cracked and the toy bag fell to the ground and scattered the toys.

So, frustrated, Santa went into the house for a cup of coffee and a shot of whiskey. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered that the elves had hidden the liquor and there was nothing to drink. In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the coffee pot and it broke into hundreds of little pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found that mice had eaten the straw it was made from.

Just then the doorbell rang and Santa cursed on his way to the door. He opened the door and there was a little angel with a great big Christmas tree.

All radiant and smiling; the angel said, very cheerfully, "Merry Christmas Santa. Isn't it just a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Isn't it just a lovely tree? Where would you like me to stick it?"

Thus began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree.

The Youth Ball was once again a very enjoyable night for the kids who attended. A very big “Thank you” to Noelene Gilla, Noelene Mongoo, Janine Binsiar and Kadisen King for all your help. Without your help cooking and decorating, I would have pulled my hair out by now.

When we had our first Youth Ball nine years ago it was run and organised entirely by parents. Noelene Gilla is the only parent that has been there from the start, so once again “Thank you Noelene”. Come on you parents please we need more parental support to do this next year.

The Music Man did an excellent job in keeping the kids on the dance floor, so thank you very much Kurt.

Thank you very much to Scott and staff from Karalundi for bringing your beautiful bunch of kids in. They stole the show because they danced all night.

Junior Belle was won by Dakota-Rose Mongoo and Junior Beau by Patrick Councillor. Senior Belle was won by Ruby (from Karaludi) and Senior Beau by Luther King.

These were chosen by Jarrod Ridley and Kurt.

Thank you very much gentlemen I would not like to have to do that job.

Last but not least thank you also to Kelly, Belinda, Subash and Alicia for being dedicated workers and making sure that the ball went off without a hitch.

Meeka’s new youth coordinators Dave and Belinda,

Hi, we wanted to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves. We are the new youth workers based at the Youth Centre. We have put together an end of term program, and have split programs into age groups – one for primary school aged children (generally 6-12 years), the other for secondary school aged kids (generally 13 plus).

Monday is volleyball for high school aged kids.

Tuesday is cooking night, where kids (all ages) and adults are encouraged to come and help prepare a meal.

Wednesday is games night for primary school age kids.

Thursday is a soccer and basketball night for high school age kids.

Friday is a movie night (one week is for primary school aged kids where the film will be rated G, the following week will be for high school aged kids and the film will be rated PG).

These programs generally run from 6.30-8pm. To make sure the primary school aged kids get home safely, the Patrol Bus will be available to drop kids home at the end of the night.

We are also at the swimming pool from 3-4.30pm Monday to Friday. Unfortunately, we are only able to supervise a limited amount of kids under the age of 10, so if you can, please send an adult along if your child is under 10 and wants to come to the swimming pool.

Over the holidays, we will be running a Holiday Program during the day which will include art & craft activities, day outings, game challenges, cooking, a music program, movie days and more. The Centre will still be open in the evening but will be sport focussed, with competitions in basketball, pool, Wii etc. In early January we are hoping to hold a camp to Geraldton for kids who are still in Meeka over the Christmas break, although places will be limited.

I just had a call from a charity asking me

to donate some of my clothes to the

starving people throughout the world.

I told them to GET LOST!! Anybody who

fits into my clothes isn't starving!!

GETTING OLDER An elderly widower had owned and lived on a large property in outback Queensland for many years. A long time ago, when his wife was young, he had made a dam in the lower paddock into a perfect spot for swimming, sheltered by mature mango and avocado trees. He'd placed picnic tables there. One hot afternoon he went down with a 10-litre bucket to bring back some of the ripe fruit hanging in abundance. As he neared the dam he heard voices shouting and laughing. A few steps more and he saw it was a bunch of young women skinny-dipping, splashing happily in the water. They became suddenly aware of his presence and uttering maidenly shrieks swam to the deep end. One called to him, "We're not coming out until you leave!" The old man waved a dismissive hand. "I didn't come down to spy on you ladies or make you get out of the dam naked," he assured them. He held the bucket up so they could see it, and said: "I'm here to feed the crocodile."

Old men may walk slow, but they can still think fast

A little boy was excited about his first day at school.

So excited in fact, that only a few minutes after class

started, he realized that he desperately needed to go to

the bathroom. So he raised his hand politely to ask if

he could be excused. Of course the teacher said yes, but

asked him to be quick.

Five minutes later he returned, looking more desperate

and embarrassed. "I can't find it", he admitted.

The teacher sat him down and drew him a little diagram

to where he should go and asked him if he will be able

to find it now. The boy looked at the diagram, said "yes"

and goes on his way.

Five minutes later he returned to the class room and says

to the teacher "I can't find it".

Frustrated, the teacher asked Jon, a boy who has been at

the school for awhile, to help him find the bathroom.

So two fellas go together and five minutes later they

both return and sit down at their seats. The teacher asks

Jon, "Well, did you find it?"

Jon is quick with his reply: "Oh sure, he just had his

boxer shorts on backwards"

Paddy goes to the vet with his goldfish.

"I think it's got epilepsy" he tells the vet.

Vet takes a look and says "It seems calm

enough to me".

Paddy says, "I haven't taken it out of the

bowl yet!".

Paddy shouts frantically into the phone

"My wife is pregnant and her contractions

are only two minutes apart!"

"Is this her first child?" asks the Doctor.

"No", shouts Paddy, "this is her husband!"

An old Irish farmer's dog goes missing

and he's inconsolable.

His wife says "Why don't you put an

advert in the paper?"

He does, but two weeks later the dog is

still missing.

"What did you put in the paper?" his

wife asks.

"Here boy" he replies.

Paddy's in jail. Guard looks in his cell and sees him hanging by his feet. "What the heck you doing?" he asks. "Hanging myself" Paddy replies. "It should be around your neck" says the Guard. "I know" says Paddy "but I couldn't breathe!!".

Paddy spies a letter lying on his doormat.

It says on the envelope "DO NOT BEND ".

Paddy spends the next 2 hours trying to

figure out how to pick the flippin' thing

up.

WHATS COOKING

Choc-honeycomb

ice-cream cake

Ingredients (serves 20)

4 litres chocolate ice cream 2 litres vanilla ice cream 3 x 50g Violet Crumble bars, roughly chopped Half a 250g packet Choc Ripple biscuits, roughly chopped Maltesers, frozen raspberries and chopped Violet Crumble, to serve

Method

Grease a 6cm-deep, 22cm square cake pan. Line base and sides with baking paper, allowing a 5cm overhang on all sides. Spoon 2 litres chocolate ice cream into a large bowl. Set aside for 10 minutes to soften. Stir until smooth. Spoon into prepared pan. Smooth surface. Cover with plastic wrap. Freeze for 30 minutes or until just firm. Spoon vanilla ice cream into a large bowl. Set aside for 10 minutes to soften. Stir until smooth. Fold in Violet Crumble. Spoon over chocolate ice cream layer in pan. Smooth surface. Cover. Freeze for 30 minutes or until just firm. Spoon remaining chocolate ice cream into a large bowl. Set aside for 10 minutes to soften. Stir until smooth. Fold in biscuits. Spoon over vanilla ice cream layer. Smooth surface. Cover. Freeze overnight or until firm. Stand at room temperature for 5 minutes to soften. Turn out on to a plate. Serve decorated with Maltesers, frozen raspberries and Violet Crumble. Notes

This recipe requires overnight freezing.

2 1/2 cups Madeira cake crumbs (approximately 280g) 1/4 cup baking cocoa 1/2 cup Carnation light & creamy evaporated milk 1 tablespoon rum 1/2 cup chocolate sprinkles Method

Combine cake crumbs and cocoa in a large bowl. Add evaporated milk and rum. Stir until a thick, sticky mixture forms. Place chocolate sprinkles in a shallow bowl. Roll 2 teaspoons of crumb mixture into a ball and roll in chocolate sprinkles until well coated. Transfer to a large plate. Continue with remaining mixture and sprinkles. Refrigerate for 1 hour. Serve.

Notes

Store rum balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Not everything has to be bad this Christmas…
