Dear parents and carers, staff,

students and community members,

I hope you had an enjoyable and safe WA (Foundation) Day long weekend.

With winter upon us and flu‟s and cold‟s impacting on our health, I would like to remind parents that if your child has been unwell during the night, they require a day of rest to recover properly. By sending them to school you are increasing the risk of them having a prolonged stay off school due to illness and potentially spreading the illness through our school community. Sustainability Report Well done to all the parents and children who have been collecting recyclable items for school use. We have a fabulous collection of bottle tops for maths and loads of small boxes for construction. Keep

collecting ring pulls, batteries and stamps, as the more of these that are recycled means less in our landfill. We have 6 new oval garden beds in the large bricked are between the Music Room and Art Room that will be set up in the next week. Room 5 & 6 students have used the opportunity to design and plan a map to decide how the area will look. This planning has enable the students to see how maths and measure-ment is used in a real life situation. Mrs Bassett has also had input as she and the art classes will have the beds to look at through the Art Room window. We are designing the garden system to match with our cooking needs in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation. Using the garden lesson to teach children about crop rotation, soil health, plant nutrition, tool care and use and how to succession plant to have useable food when we need it for cooking. We have purchased wooden cutting boards and thanks to the generous parents from Room 5 now have lots of bowls, cutlery and crockery. We have a pasta making machine which Room 6 students have trialled making basil fettuccine and tomato sauce fettuccine, as well as carrot dip, roti bread, salads, coconut milk, tabouleh and hassleback potatoes. Room 2 did a fabulous job of their first cooking lesson a few weeks ago. Thank you to the parents and grandparent who volunteered to assist the children. Our time management needs refining as the children take a long time to peel and cut vegetables, but we all enjoyed eating the food. A thank you to Mrs Bell for allowing us to use her students as our first “guinea pig” group. I was impressed with their behaviour, persis-tence and patience. They are well on their way to being competent cooks as Mrs Bell takes regular cooking lessons with them. Anyone interest in copies of the recipes we are using, please see me for copies. We have been planting Flanders Poppy seed pots which will be available at the PP‟s Week 7 assembly and Rm 5‟s Assembly in Week 10 for a gold coin donation. They will be flowering during Remembrance Week in November. Any small pots would be gladly welcome, please bring to the PP room. Happy cooking, gardening and recycling.

The art is fantastic and brightens up our work areas.

Eagle Cup

During this term we started Eagle Cup and for those who don't know what that is, it is school football. So far we have all done great with 1 win out of 3 games. First we played Spencer Park but sadly we lost by a lot. The score was 94-32. For the next game the whole team left school at 3 o‟clock to arrive in Denmark in time for the game. Now that game, we all liked that game! We all played fantastic with a win to at least send us close to the top of the ladder. The score 25-9. Then to the next game last week against Mount Lockyer. The team didn‟t win or have the best game but we all tried our best and enjoyed it. The score 61-29. Thanks to Mr McCarthy for coaching us. I am sure that the whole team would agree with me by saying “thanks for the tops”. There will be more updates on Eagle Cup. By Cyrus.
