FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK……. Excursions Over the last week our grade 5/6 and grade 1/2 students have attended their excursions. They both visited Melbourne Scienceworks and the grade 5 and 6 students took part in the Planetarium Program to support their unit on Journey to Discovery. Yesterday our grade 1 and 2 students enjoyed the bus ride to Science Works where the highlight of the day was attending the lightening show. They learnt about static electricity and how to stay safe in lightening. It is always lovely to hear how well our students conduct themselves on excursions and represent Kilmore Primary School in a positive way when out of the school. School Disco It is now only 2 sleeps until our KPS Disco and we are all excited for the great evening ahead. The disco will be in our stadium this year, with entry for registration and pick up via the Lancefield Road gate only (outside the stadium). As this is an evening event all other gates will be locked and there will be no access through the school or office. We have 340 students registered to attend the disco this year. So a big thank you to all parents and carers for registering their children and supporting this whole of school event. We have over 50 volunteers - made up of parents and carers who have kindly volunteered their time to make this event a success for our students. They will be working hard throughout the night from the busy registration period, to supervising students inside, through to signing out all attendees at the end of the night. We also have many teachers who are volunteering their time on the night to help make it a special night for their students. We ask that you are patient during the sign in and sign out process. It will be very busy but we will do our best to make it as efficient as possible. Our teachers will be supervising the children at the end of the night, so students will wait in their year level and be well looked after until it is your turn to sign them out. For our hungry students, parents and carers and those waiting we will have a Sausage sizzle after the disco. This will run from 7:30-8:00pm, so please stop by. We hope your children enjoy all the fun of the disco, and sleep well afterwards. Mrs. Jennene Cooney Assistant Principal

Grade 1/2 students, their teachers and a wonderful group of adult helpers visited Scienceworks on Tuesday 12th June. The excursion formed part of our Term 2 Inquiry Unit’s focus on Science. Whilst at Scienceworks,

students learnt more about

the weather and how clouds

form, why it rains and how

lightning is created. There

were some hair raising

experiments with static

electricity too!

Thank you to our students who

represented Kilmore PS so well,

our adult helpers for

volunteering their time and

helping everyone get the most

out of the visit and our teachers

for organising an educational

and enjoyable excursion.

On Thursday 8th of June, the Grade 5 and 6 students attended Scienceworks in Melbourne as a support program for their Inquiry Unit, ‘Journey to Discovery’. Students took part in the Planetarium program, where they learned about the solar system and the possibility of life on other planets in the future. Students also had the opportunity to explore the ‘Think Ahead’ and ‘Sportsworks’

Write a book in a day! This year we are very excited to enter a Kilmore Primary School team in the ‘Write a book in a day’ competi-tion! Write a Book in a Day is a creative and challenging team competition for students. Teams of up to ten have just one day to write and illustrate a book from start to finish. To make it even more fun, unique parameters must be included in the story. Completed books are donated to children in hospitals all across Australia. Funds raised through sponsorship go to The Kids’ Cancer Project, a national charity with a mission to support scientific research to help children with cancer. This year at KPS, the competition is open to Year 6 students. The competition involves a team of 5-10 stu-dents working collaboratively to write… you guessed it… a book in day! If you are selected for the team you must also: Be willing to work as part of a team to write a book Contribute to the team’s work Give and receive feedback Participate in writing workshops Initiate and develop fundraising ideas Help to fundraise the entry fee Spend one day (in August – date to be confirmed) at school writing the book. If you are a Year 6 student, and are keen to participate in the competition, please write a persuasive piece about why you should be selected for our team. Please include your name and class. Please return it to Ms White’s pigeon hole by Friday 22 June. For further details please see https://www.writeabookinaday.com/

BEING ON TIME MATTERS!

This year Kilmore PS is focusing on student attendance and arriving on time at school. Over the course of the year individual students and their families have worked hard on being organised – making lunches the night before, having school clothes and school bags packed ready for the morning and making sure everyone gets a good night’s sleep. Help your class win our being on Time Matters Award by arriving at school on time.

Congratulations to the students who arrive at school on time.

If you are experiencing difficulties being at school on time please feel free to contact me. [email protected]

For parents/guardians who don’t have access to the internet at home, at work, at a friend’s house or on their phones, they can contact the office school on 5782 1268 and a Three Way Conference time will be made on your behalf.

Three Way Conferences are strictly 10mins and spaces are limited. If you require

more time, please contact your teacher directly to make alternative arrangements.

Students in Grade 3-6 are involved in ‘Split Maths’. This means that they may have a

different teacher for Maths than their regular classroom teacher. If this applies to

your child and you would like to speak specifically to your child’s Maths teacher, you

are welcome to contact them via email and arrange a suitable appointment time on

a different day. Class teachers will be up to date with the Maths progress of all the

students in their class and will be able to discuss general achievements and areas for

future learning.

Parents can change their bookings, any time prior to the closing date, by re-visiting the Sentral portal. Parents wishing to change their times after the closing date should contact the school directly on 5782 1268. For instructions on how to book your Three Way Conferences, please see the attached help sheet.

If you have not registered for the portal yet, or you have not entered your Unique

Family Code, please see the letter that was sent home and emailed earlier in the

year, to finalise this process. If you need assistance with resetting your portal

password, either email the school or contact the school via phone on 5782 1268.
