PRESIDENTS REPORT

Eric highlighted issues that were discussed at

the Committee Meeting 17th February 2016

in Bob’s absence.

Richard was going to check the Key Regis-

ter to make sure those with keys to the

shed really needed them. The constitution rules say that only one Ma-

chine Examiner can be on the Committee so

Ray Buck has resigned to allow our new Ma-

chine Examiner Murray Rudler to take his

place. Ray is still a licenced examiner but ex-

aminations will now be done at Murray

Rudler’s premises in Boyanup.

The Act for The Proposed New Constitu-

tion comes into play on the 1st July 2016,

and we have 3 years after that date to

comply with the new rules.

Matt Cook has donated 2 new tyres for the

club trailer, and he will come down on Friday

afternoon and arrange to have them fitted in

time for the 2 Day Rally.

Nomination fees will need to be increased

for the 2 Day Rally from 2017 to cover the

cost of running the event.

It has been decided not to carry the wide

brimmed cloth hats anymore because of the

lack of demand for them.

The Cloth Badges and Metal Historic

Plates for bikes will also be discontinued,

but Glenda will keep a minimum of 25

stick on Historic Badges in stock for the

404 concessionally licenced bikes.

Eric also stressed the importance of including

Back-up drivers and their mobile phone num-

bers to route sheets in case of any accidents

or breakdowns.

CAPTAINS REPORT

Midweek PM Ride 10-2-2016.

Due to heatwave conditions it was unani-

mously agreed to cancel this ride.

Examination Day 14-2-2016

Everything running ok until it was discov-

ered there were NO SAUSAGES for the sau-

sage sizzle and here we were with rolls, but-ter, sauce and onions. Unfortunately a mix-up at butchers left the Club minus their or-der, never fear though, our fearless secre-tary saved the day by going to the Super-market for some so Bob M. was able to practice being “MasterChef” of the day.

Busselton Midweek AM 17-2-2016

26 Riders 4 Passengers

Brian Green organised todays ride to Tathra

Winery Nannup for morning tea. Group from

Bunbury meet up with Busso's at the intersec-

tion of Vasse Hwy & Ludlow/Hithergreen Rd

whereupon we all headed for Nannup led by

Brian. Turning into Nannup/Balingup Rd we

travelled up hill and down dale on winding

road to reach winery where a fantastic morn-

ing tea of fresh brewed coffee and tea with

scones direct from the oven with jam &

cream was served in beautiful surroundings

complete with grazing kangaroos.

Originally Darryl & Brian planned to contin-

ue onto Balingup but winery owner advised

roadworks in progress so majority of group

decided to return the same way as we came.

Ross & Faye C. Kay P. and Dave L. travelled

to Balingup which Dave advises had a lot of

“Lucky” stones on edge of road “Lucky you

didn't fall off” John & I travelled via

Cundinup Rd to Kirup. Great ride and venue

thanks to Brian and winery owners for mak-

ing ride & morning tea possible.

It transcribed later that 2 Busso's had missed

the winery and ended up in Balingup, also

Diesel Dick was coming to show off his

“new” bike which unfortunately had a flat

battery that morning.

Midweek AM 24-2-2016

18 Riders 1 Passenger

I planned todays ride to Bridgetown even

knowing roadworks at Donnybrook, with

Muriel M. & Margaret G. we departed at

0830 giving us plenty of time to reach desti-

nation and prepare morning tea WRONG.

We were still sitting at the roadworks at 0930

expecting the bikes to pass us, eventually got

our turn only to encounter 2 more sets of

roadworks before Bridgetown and horror of

horrors on the actual Blackwood River

Bridge.

Finally reached our meeting spot beside the

river where Doug from Manjimup was al-

ready waiting, to save time we set up urn etc.

in the carpark. Busso boys arrived about 5

minutes later followed by Bunbury group, in-

cluding “Diesel Dick” this time, who had had

a better run than us. Thanks to everyone who

didn’t mind waiting a bit for hot water and

special thanks to Muriel & Margaret who I

couldn't have managed without.

Two Day Busy Bee 5-3-2016

Thanks to willing helpers who turned up for

the busy bee. Unfortunately, I was too busy to

do a headcount but we think there were about

20 members who participated in the clean-up.

The whole operation was finished by 0930,

time for tea, coffee and chinwag for another

hour.

PLEASE NOTE

There appears to be a bit of consternation and

confusion following discussion at the Febru-

ary Meeting regarding PM Midweek rides. I

was decided that in the months of JANUARY

& FEBRUARY, the hottest months, the Mid-

week PM Ride will become an AM ride. This

will not come into effect until 2017

a gold coin donation, and for people just go-

ing for a look at the displays it is $10.00.

The displays will include all types of vehicles

and there will be lots of memorabilia and

films being shown.

PROPERTY OFFICERS REPORT

Nil to Report.

LICENSING LIAISON OFFICERS RE-

PORT

Jeff said a total of 230 bikes have been exam-

ined but there are still 135 outstanding,

which are now in breach of the constitution.

Helmets

If you are thinking of buying a new crash

helmet, then be aware that on 27th November

2015, the Commonwealth Minister for Small

Business and Assistant Treasurer, the Hon

Kelly O’Dwyer, revoked the safety standard

for protective helmets for motor cyclists.

This has removed the requirement for all hel-

mets to have the 1698 Australian Standard

certificate before they can be sold or used in

Australia. The new requirement is the EU 22-

05 standard.

If you look inside on the strap it will have a

circle E1 or other E number (I have a helmet

that is approved by MA for racing that has E4

on the chin strap). Some States have already

mandated the use of these helmets on the

road so I suggest you check if you State is up

to date, at present QLD does allow their use.

I was recently in a Melbourne motorcycle

dealership that was having a sale on helmets,

and when I enquired about this I was told that

because of the Federal Law change it is pos-

sible to import and use a helmet from Europe

for a lot less than previously possible.

So if you want a new helmet check first and

you could save yourself a lot of money.

The ongoing saga of the over 85 Age Debate

still continues to grow moss. We have a

stronger support from Labour Ministers than

we do from the Liberal Ministers, and they

are all saying if you don’t like what is going

on change the Government.

It is not the law that we have to change it is

the policy, and with enough pressure the

Minister for Transport could change that at

the drop of a hat. Sally Talbot the Shadow

minister for Police is showing her support,

and she has directed her policy staff to look

at the legality of it and why Mr Nalder is not

doing anything about it.

Motorcycle owners have an advantage over

car owners with the Concession 404 Legisla-

tion, because car owners are unable to get

their vehicles licenced until the Legislation is

changed. Car owners have been waiting since

2011 for the Legislation to change.

Jeff has had notification from the CMC that

Clubs have to advise the CMC of any un-

financial members, and he now has the sad

duty of reporting 4 of our members who have

let their, membership’s lapse.

WEBSITE MANAGER REPORT

There is now an Incident Report Form availa-

ble on the documents page of the website.

This form is used to report any accidents or

incidents that occur during a club event. The

documents page also includes other forms

and documents that can be used by club

members as well as back issues of Classic

Vibrations and magazines from other motor-

cycle clubs.

GENERAL BUSINESS

Jack Lewis said although the Mandurah Me-

ander was down on numbers this year those

who attended had a really good weekend, and

those who didn’t attend missed out.

Page 7: ISSUE APRIL 2016 - Wild Apricot · Resignation Letter from Ray Buck resign-ing from the Committee. Email from Sharon Rudler advising that the monthly returns have been sent to DOT

7

Mandurah members appreciated the support

from the Bunbury members who attended.

Saturday the run went along the coast to fin-

ish at Fairbridge Farm for a night of fine

food, beverage, and frivolity.

On Sunday after a beautiful breakfast of ba-

con and eggs prepared by Alan and the boys

we meandered back along the scenic estuary

route and called in at a Premier Holden Car

Display along Pinjarra Road, and then to

Macca’s to see his collection of motorcycles

and had a beautiful morning tea. The Bun-

bury riders peeled off from there and made

their own way back to Bunbury.

On behalf of the Bunbury members who at-

tended thank you for a fantastic weekend, we

can’t wait till next year’s Meander.

Jack then introduced Clive Marwick who is a

new member from Mandurah. Clive has been

into motorbikes since he was about seven and

has owned and regrettably sold a lot of bikes

over the years. He now has a number of pro-

jects he is working on and hoping to have one

going for the Albany Hill Climb on 5th & 6th

November 2016.

Leith has contacted Neville Wilson to see

how he is going and apparently he is still

having trouble sitting down so is unable to

come to a meeting, but he is hoping he will

be able to manage to get to one in a couple of

months.

Terry Germain brought along a large Harley

Davidson hard cover book, and a carburettor

he is donating to be raffled at the 2 day Rally.

Terry still has route sheet holders available

for sale, if anyone needs them.

Glen Britza will open the gates of the Club at

8.00am Friday to let people in for the final

set up for the 2 Day Rally.

Clem Harvie has kindly offered to donate

an18kva generator which he will deliver at

3.00pm on Friday for the 2 Day Rally. The

hundred dollar note raffle was won by Paul

Whalen.

Ray Jordan auctioned a Leather Jacket which

was purchased by Terry Germain for $5.00.

HART FAMILY AT THE 2016 TWO DAY

RALLY.

The Hart family and friend Clint presented at

the 2016 Rally as Stormin’ Norman &

The Crusaders .Complete with Matching T

Shirts( Thanks to Stacey ) Norm had the

1936 Harley outfit, Fil Hart was to ride the

1956 B.S.A. C12 Clint rode Norm’s 1955

Matchless 3GL Ryan rode Norm’s 1942

Harley, Dave was on his 1967 B.S.A.

B40GA Ben rode Ryan’s Bridge-

stone Stacey rode her Bultaco Ken and Shak

rode on Ken’s 1951 B.S.A. Gold Flash.

Well things do not always go to plan. The ig-

nition key on the C12 broke Saturday morn-

ing so Fil was Navigator for Norm in the

Harley. The Harley broke down at Donny-

brook as the battery dropped a cell, so back

home again and out came the Ural outfit.

Sunday Stacey lost a front engine bolt on her

Bultaco. The clutch on the Bridgestone be-

came a little touchy. So a rearrangement of

bikes was called.

Norm and Fil rode in the Ural outfit. Stacey

changed to Ryan’s Yamaha 400 two stroke.

Ben changed to Ryan’s 1966 A65 B.S.A. The

Matchless, 1942 Harley WLA and the B.S.A.

Gold Flash proved as reliable as ever. The

A65 also ran well.

The 1967 B.S.A B40GA model had been re-

trieved from the eastern States to Ryan’s

house where Ryan and his Father in law Ste-

ve Turner checked it over and generally pre-

pared the bike for the rally and YES it ran

like clockwork also.

Page 9: ISSUE APRIL 2016 - Wild Apricot · Resignation Letter from Ray Buck resign-ing from the Committee. Email from Sharon Rudler advising that the monthly returns have been sent to DOT

9

Some of the bikes had not been in a run for

some 6 years. The whole family enjoyed the

weekend and are still in the clouds, breakdown

oil leaks, adjusting clutches and what ever.

Fil has now obtained a 1972 Honda CL175E to

ride in future rallies. At the end of the day we

had to return Ben to Perth for University. Ken

had to go back to Noosa. Shak to Perth Ryan

flew out to Port Hedland and Dave and Fil re-

turned to Broome, Stacey, Norm and Clint

stayed in the area. Margaret missed the ride

this year but was at the club on Sunday. She is

recovering from surgery .

Regards to all.

and partners who cooked and donated the beautiful homemade food, or made

monetary contributions for the hungry hoards.

There were too many volunteers to personally name so please thank you all for

helping to make this event one that entrants want to come back to year after year.

Thank you all for your support, and if I have missed anyone I can only apologise,

but please be assured that your effort did not go unnoticed on the weekend.

The IHC is full of very special people and I for one am very proud and honoured

to be part of it.
