TRANSCRIPT
We are delighted to have raised over £2000 at our family fun day in May as a result of this we were able to have new playground markings in our playground which the children returned to after the half term break. They have thoroughly enjoyed playing on these every playtime and lunchtime as well as during Maths lessons!
Staffing update
As you are aware Miss Nabbi left this month to start her maternity leave, which we will be covering with existing staff in school until the end of term. Mrs Chaudhry will also be leaving at the end of the term to start her maternity leave. In September Mrs Ware, an experienced Teaching Assistant in Early Years will be joining the Nursery team working full time in the Nursery, along with Miss Sheikh who will be working in the afternoons.
Mrs James is also leaving to have a baby at the end of this term, and we are delighted that Mrs Horne, a very expe-rienced Key Stage 1 teacher will be joining our team.
Sadly, Mrs Weedon will also be leaving at the end of the term to go and work in another school; we have two new teachers joining our Nursery team, Mrs Holloway and Miss MacLean. Mrs Holloway will be teaching Monday and Tuesday and Miss MacLean will be teaching Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We wish Mrs Weedon all the best in her future teaching career. On Wednesday 5th July the children will be moving up to their new class to meet their new teachers and support staff.
Many Thanks
Mrs Merritt

Maybury News Everyone is a learner and every experience is a learning opportunity.
Nursery
Nursery have been learning about mini beasts and have been searching for them in their garden. They have found lots of different types such as spiders, flies, bees, wasps and ants. The children have used magnifying glasses to look carefully at them to find out more. They have counted their legs and looked at similarities, sorting them into groups.
Dragonflies
Dragonflies had a fun time on their trip to Alice Holt. We began by leaving school at 9am on a Yellow School Bus; this was exciting and we sang songs and talked all the way there. When we got to Alice Holt our first task was to find The Gruffalo in the deep dark woods. We carefully read the clues and followed the signs. On our way, we found all the charac-ters from the book and made dens out of long sticks. After we found the Gruffalo (and Stickman) it was time for lunch which of course was the highlight of the day! Finally, we had a quick play in the park before heading back to school.
The children were so well behaved, we were all very proud of them especially as it was such a hot day and we had to do lots of walking. Well done Dragonflies.

Ladybirds
The children in Ladybirds Class had a wonderful time on their trip to Windsor Castle at the start of this half term. They explored the castle grounds, learnt about the roles of royals and enjoyed dressing up as kings, queens, knights and princesses. All the children behaved very well, so well done children!
During Science Week, the children learnt about pond habitats. They found out what animals live in ponds and how important they are in providing a home for all sorts of wildlife. They really enjoyed seeing lots of different animals that ZooLab brought in for the children to hold and learn about.
Butterflies
During Feeling Good Week, the children learnt the importance of looking after their wellbeing and taking time out in their busy days to spend time doing things they enjoy. The children chose some activities they love to do at school.
The children had great fun learning how to skip and learning new games to play with their friends during playtimes. The children had great fun and did some exercise at the same time!

Key Stage 1 Update
Key stage 2 have had a busy and exciting month! At the beginning of the month, the key stage enjoyed a fun-filled Science week including a trip from Zoolab and many fascinating Science investigations—thanks to Miss Slade for organising such a wonderful week. It’s also been a particularly sporty month, with trips to BDB to practise our athletics skills and Year 5 and 6 had their intensive swimming week. The children also learnt more about the importance of recycling during our workshops from Woking Council.
Beetles Class
Year 3 enjoyed their school trip to the discovery centre this month. The children spent the morning exploring the different zones and applying all of the learning they have done in science this year. In the afternoon, the children went out into the forest to complete lots of activities such as: identifying names of trees, playing hide and seek and measuring tree stumps.
Ants Class
Ants class have made Roman shields out of large sheets of cardboard. They used traditional colours and patterns to decorate them after studying what they would have been like. The class then took their Roman shields outside and worked in groups to create different formations to keep themselves protected from an attack.
Spiders Class
Miss Briggs was pleased with the effort and achievement from Years 5 and 6 during their swimming week . The children who swam every day made such good progress during the week, despite the very hot weather. Thank you to all the staff who came along and made the week such a huge success—especially Miss Briggs who organised the week.
Glow Worms Class
Year 6 had a Money Matters workshop run by Natwest where the children had to work within a budget to plan a birthday party. They worked well in a group to apply their calculation skills to ensure that they did not over spend. These skills will be usual when we have our enterprise week next month.
