Dear Parents/Caregivers

There is magic on the streets of Kalgoorlie and yesterday our students had the

opportunity to share the magic thanks to the wonderful organisation of Mrs Franich and

dedication of our teachers and many parent helpers. Four hundred students walked the

HeART Walk and saw the wonderful murals done by many talented people in our town.

Ms Paula Fletcher came to last Friday’s assembly to talk about her brainchild.

Yesterday the children learned about the stories behind each piece of art and the artist

who created them. They saw the persistence needed to complete an artwork, the

confidence needed to display a piece of work in the middle of town and the diversity of

the many beautiful pieces of art. They also experienced the way that the art has helped

to create a wonderful sense of community throughout our town.

Tomorrow during our Heart of Gold “You Can Do It!” Day and students from Pre-primary

to Year 6 are going to participate in their own art activities and share the many artistic

talents that they have. They are also, over the next weeks, going to participate in

designing murals for our school so that we have our own HeART walk. As always

parents are invited to share in the day and lunch on the oval. Come and have a lovely

art day with your child or children.

VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS

We will soon be sending out Statements for outstanding Voluntary Contributions.

In order to enrich the opportunities available to your child in school, the Department of Education under section 99 of the School Education Act 1999, permits schools to request that all parents/caregivers pay a voluntary contribution. The amount requested is determined in consultation with the School Board. Contributions for 2017 are set at a flat rate of $50 per student from Kindergarten to Year 6. This amount has not changed for the last 5 years.

These funds are important if a school is to be able to budget effectively. Parents are requested to pay the contribution during the first two weeks of school. Other fees will be called for during the year for specific activities.

Payment can be made by either cash or cheque as the school does not have Eftpos or Credit card facilities.

On Wednesday 25th of May, we had Alli Pope

and Janie Davidson visit SKPS from Country Arts

WA as part of the Kookoo Kookaburra show

touring regional Western Australia. Alli ran

acting workshops with some very lucky

students from Pre-primary to Year 6.

We learnt about the importance of warming our

bodies and voices up to make sure we are ready

for performance, how to enter and exit a stage,

where centre stage is and how to work with

others to create improvised performances. It was

a lot of fun. Here are some pictures of our acting

debuts!
