It has certainly been a busy term at Maybury Primary School with lots of exciting learning and opportunities for the children to enjoy.
Attendance award
Well done Spiders Class for winning the Golden Attendance Raffle this term, they had a fantastic time at Pizza Express last week, they all made margherita pizzas from scratch and then brought them back to school to eat for lunch! They also received a Junior Pizzaiolo certificate! Please make sure your children come to school every day and on time to ensure they secure a ticket for their class in the Golden Raffle.
I will also have 22 children at my golden tea party this week. So well done everyone! Just to remind parents Golden tea parties will be for children with 100% attendance and punctuality so please make sure you aren't late! Please remember children must be in the playground by 8:45 to go into the classroom to register at 8:50.
Forest Schools
Mrs Roberts completed her Forest schools training this year and is now a trained Forest Schools Leader, this will enable her to work with groups of children to deliver a person-alised Forest Schools curriculum. Forest schools is an inspiration process that offers all learners opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self esteem through hands on learning experi-ences in a woodland or natural environment with trees. The school will be developing a small forest area as well as utilising Horsell common.
Happy Bags
Thank you to all the parents who contributed unwanted clothes and soft teddies for the happy bag collection, we raised £196!
Glue Sticks
Please could I remind children in Beetles, Ants, Spiders and Glow worms classes to ensure they have a named glue stick in school.
Year 6
I would also like to inform you that Miss Razaq will be leaving Maybury Primary School and therefore will not be returning to school after the Easter break. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Miss Razaq for her commitment to the year 6 class and we wish her well for the future.
I wish you an enjoyable Easter break and look forward to welcoming you back to school on Wednesday 19th April.

Maybury News Everyone is a learner and every experience is a learning opportunity.
Nursery and Dragonflies were very lucky to have a visit from Mill Cottage Farm at the beginning of the month. Donkeys, goats, piglets, geese, turkeys, rabbits and more came to visit us. We learnt to name the animals, found out about similarities and differences between the animals. We fed the animals, groomed them and even got to milk a pretend cow. Our favourite part was feeding the lambs their milk, they were very greedy!
Nursery
Nursery enjoyed Book Week dressing up as their favourite book characters. It was also lovely so many Mums and Dads joined the Nursery children for stories and shared books with their children during Book Week.
Next term our parent focus in Nursery will be maths and parents will be in-vited in to play mathematical games with their children.
Dragonflies
There was so much excitement in Dragonflies when 6 duck eggs arrived in an incubator. There was a lot of discussion on what was inside. We had many suggestions such as croco-diles, dinosaurs, snakes, chicks and penguins, we used our phonic knowledge to write them down.
Dragonflies watched carefully as the first egg hatched to reveal a little yellow duckling.
During the duckling’s stay, the children were motivated and eager to learn all about ducks, drawing and writing information books.
Have a lovely Easter holiday, enjoy the spring weather. Don’t forget to read lots and practise your phonic sounds.

Ladybirds
The children enjoyed an exciting trip to Guildford Toy Museum in Guildford earlier this month and really enjoyed getting the chance to look at and play with some old Victorian toys. They were able to dress up in traditional Victorian clothes and played in the park next to the castle too. They also got to experience life in a Victorian classroom and sat in rows behind wooden desks, it was very different to their own Lady-birds classroom!
Butterflies
The children behaved exceptionally well during their trip to West Surrey synagogue in Weybridge as part of their RE topic ‘Why do Jewish people celebrate Shabbat?’ They learnt about lots of Jewish artefacts and how they are used and they got the chance to try on traditional Jewish hats and scarves that boys wear in the synagogue.
Reading, Maths and Phonics at home
We would like to remind you that children can access maths games, reading and phonics activities at home by going on https://www.activelearnprimary.co.uk/login. Username is their first name with a capi-tal letter and the first letter of their surname with a capital letter and no space. The password is ‘Maths’ and the school code is ‘mayb’.
Have a lovely Easter with your friends and family. Please remember to do lots of reading and to complete your Easter homework ready to show your teacher after the holidays.

Beetles Class
Year 3 have been learning about the different types of rocks that can be found naturally. They have learnt how they are formed and have spent some time describing the properties of these rocks. To conclude their unit of work, they have applied their knowledge to create sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous chocolate rocks!
Ants Class
Year 4 have visited the WWF this month and enjoyed a workshop based around ad-aptation of penguins and polar bears. Using their new understanding, they used iPads to create news reported based around adaptation.
Spiders Class
As winners of the attendance award this term, Spiders class were lucky enough to be able to visit Pizza Express this month. During their time there, they learnt about the history of the restau-rant, as well as having the opportunity to make and eat their delicious pizzas!
Glow Worms Class
As part of their World War Two topic, Year 6 have been learning about the different types of shelters used to protect civilians using air attacks. The children made their own Anderson shelters at school and had the opportunity to get inside a replica shelter during their trip to the Imperial War Museum at the start of the term.

Diary Dates
This month, we held our celebrations and fundraising for Comic Relief. We had a bake sale which was very popular! It was lovely to see some of the cakes with red noses!
We also held our lunchtime fair for the children. There was nail painting, straw challenge, dancing, penal-ty shoot out, reading funny books in the library, colouring and smart table games. The children really en-joyed themselves and Learning Council worked very hard to organise it. At the fair, we gave out loads of prizes and stickers.
Overall, we raised over £100 which is great and will go towards helping those in need around the world.
Thank you to everyone who supported us and bought a red nose.

Our Values – Spring Term
Trust: January's value is trust some suggestions to encourage this important value at home are:
Talk about people we can trust in the community.
Talk about what trust means: Trust means you are there for me and I am there for you.
Co-operation: February’s value is co-operation, some suggestions to encourage this important value at home are:
Complete cooking activities, have a written or pictorial recipe with ingredients and steps present-ed in order. Assign roles to each child such as measuring the flour, counting the correct number of eggs, pouring the milk, greasing the pan, and stirring. Children have to wait their turn, follow directions, and share responsibility for creating something they can enjoy later.
Play team board and card games, these foster cooperation and team strategies.
Tolerance: March’s value is tolerance, some suggestions to encourage this important value at home are:
Talk accepting others even when they make mistakes. We are all unique and have something valu-able to offer and share.
Encourage children to listen to other people’s views and opinions
Talk about the qualities of famous people e.g. Nelson Mandela
