However, what has become clear is punctuality is not where we would wish it to be. From the week commencing 14 th October, we will send you an email each time your child is late to school, just to make you aware. Following advice from the local authority, we are also consulting on a change to our close of registers in the morning (part of our attendance policy). We want to move the close of AM registers to 9am (from 9:10am). If a student arrives after 9am, they will officially be coded as a U on the register, which means an unauthorised absence for the AM session. If a student receives 10 or more 'Us' within a 7 week period, you could receive a penalty fine. At heart, we are worried that students are missing too much learning; this is a particular concern with year 11 students. One year 11 lesson this week was disrupted 8 times as students arrived over the course of half an hour. This is very disruptive for the other students, and the late students are behind from the second they walk in. If you have any thoughts or comments please do email the Student Enquiries Mailbox. Contacting JCA We would like to remind parents of the many ways that they can contact the school. If reporting a student absence please press option 2 when calling the main number, this will get you through to the Student Absence Voicemail. If you would like to email the school about your child or have another question, please email [email protected]. You should not expect teachers to respond to requests sent via other channels. Due to the busy nature of the reception we are not always able to answer your phone calls. If you are able to access the two methods above we will be able to log the absence or respond to your enquiry.

Punctuality

With a slight change to our morning routine, every student is greeted on arrival to JCA, and uniform standards have really improved - thank you for your support with this. However, what has become clear is punctuality is not where we would wish it to be. From the week commencing 14th October, we will send you an email each time your child is late to school, just to make you aware.

Prayer Room at JCA: CG2, 12:40 – 13:00, Available from Term 2

After half term, we will be offering a designated multi-faith prayer space in CG2. The space will be available from 12:40-13:00. There is the facility to make the space work for both male and female students of the Muslim faith.

Pick It Up, Clean It Up, Win a Free Lunch!

You can win a free lunch if you take two very simple steps:

1. Write your name clearly on any food packaging 2. Put it in the bin outside the canteen (pictured)

You can collect, name and bin as much food packaging as you like – not only does this increase your odds of winning, it also improves the school environment for everyone.

Pen Recycling at JCA

Pen recycling boxes are now up and running in our Zone offices. Please do your bit for our finite planet by ensuring that broken writing instruments stay out of the regular bins and get recycled. Every term, the contents will be weighed and the community with the most recycled pens will be rewarded. Once collected, the writing instruments are separated by material composition, cleaned and melted into hard plastic that can be remoulded to make new recycled products.

Y7 Pantomime Trip to Bristol Hippodrome: Dick Whittington

On Thursday 12th December, all of Year 7 have been invited to attend a trip to the Pantomime during the school day! It will feature live music, amazing costumes and great comedy. Students should have received a letter in the Assembly on Thursday 10th October, but if they have not or they have lost it, they can collect another from Music, Drama, Reception or the Finance office. Tickets cost £16 each, and include travel, a ticket and an ice cream. All payments can be made online, in cash or by cheque, and can be paid in full or installments of 2 x £8. All cash/cheques and reply slips should be handed into the Finance office.

World Mental Health Day 2019

Many of our students wore an item of yellow clothing in support of World Mental Health Day 2019. Thank you to all who participated, and all who donated, in order to break down the stigma surrounding the acknowledgement and treatment of mental ill health. This year’s theme is suicide prevention. We recently published several resources compiled by the World Health Organisation on this topic; these resources – and further support – can be found at this link. Finally, a parent of one of our pupils is undertaking an inspiring trek along the Great Wall of China to raise money for the Mental Health Foundation. His efforts have currently raised £2552.00! You can find him on JustGiving by searching for matthew-joel.
