By Bob MakinVila City College lease
in the Korman area on the
Teouma Road has been pur-
chased by a developer despite
the school possessing a special
lease and status o reserved
or educational purposes.
The school can accommo-
date approximately 350 stu-
dents.
Vila City College is being
destroyed at a time when
enrolments in 2010 increased
by 8% over 2009 and a ur-
ther large increase is expect-ed in last years igures
when available. An addition-
al increase is also expected
again this year with the next
intake. There has been great
pressure on classroom space
or several years.
The school buildings were
constructed to a high stand-
ard, and a number o peo-
ple have been able to live in
the buildings since the school
was closed. Classes stopped
because the ormer owner
could not complete fnancialobligations to his bank.
Despite the reserved sta-
tus, the premises have been
sold and the lease goes to a
commercial developer who
appears to employ sever-
al Asian oreign investors in
driving the bulldozers and
removing the corrugated iron
rom the rooing o the 10
classrooms.
They were unable to
explain why the work is being
undertaken.
