EDITORS’ NOTEThis new issue of Take5 encompasses many different sec-

tions and sports a new layout; one which I hope will be able

to entertain each and every one of you in the remaining

months to come. As we meet new people and forge closer

bonds because of our famous courtyard layout, I thought

it would be apt for it to grace the covers. Let’s embrace the

friendships we continue to form in our cosy area and last

but not least, thank you to all Fivers because without you,

this issue will not be able to happen. Do remember to stay

healthy and strong in this busy period and in the meantime,

strive in unity for excellence!

MUGGER’S NIGHT // by CHERIE LEE

Mug-a-thon commenced as the night began,Under the soothing tunes of Skyve, our Jam Band.

Grouped into Red, Orange, Yellow, and Black,Games began with a post-it shake attack.

Emcees Megan and Yongkian led the enthusiastic Fivers,Returning to their childhood of endless texting and erasers.

Shouting out answers (and possibly cheating) to help their friends;

Not giving up when the stacking of cards seemed like it’d never end.

Ignoring competitive spirits Fivers all still played their hardest,Giving applause to the winners and best-dressed Sara and Bryan.Hungry as they were, the event adjourned for Block Supper, but

Thank you Fivers, for a night that will be well-remembered.

EventsJCRC INVESTITURE // by CHERIE LEE

recap:

September 23rd marked the official handover of duties from the 26th to the 27th JCRC. With wide smiles, the 26th JCRC received plaques from Professor Eddie, which represented tokens of appreciation for their service to Hall 5. The following gift exchange between the 26th and 27th JCRC drew chuckles from the crowd, with rather apt gifts such as the trolley given to the new Resident Affairs Secretary, Leon, from his predecessor Gerald. Under Jaymond’s vision of building a stronger hall culture, the new committee then swore to make Hall 5 the best hall to be in. 27th JCRC, let us continue to strive in unity for excellence!

HALLOWEEN // by SEAN ONG

Before the night of 16th October 2014, a vicious murder was committed onboard the cruise ship, St. Jordan. Fivers were

summoned to the Amphitheatre, tasked to unravel the mystery before the night ends. Many Hall V residents were dressed up as characters of the dark, such as the Grim Reaper and Annabelle. Despite being constantly haunted by the dead wife’s ghost, and

having to endure the scary red-lit suspect rooms, Fivers united in their groups to solve this puzzling mystery. Eventually, Neptune

proved to be the best sleuths – cracking the case and winning the grand prize. The best-dressed prizes were also awarded to Daxino,

the bloodied schoolboy and Meiji, our beautifully frightening Thai ghost. From the sounds of laughter and bright smiles on

Fivers’ faces that night, this Halloween will surely be a hard one to forget!

RoomsTOP 5

Hall 5 may be one of the oldest halls in NTU,

with weathered walls and rusty barbeque grills

(and that’s all about to change real soon),

but that doesn’t mean our rooms have to be as dreary.

We take a peek into the TOP 5 Rooms in our hall.

fitMaintaining our form for IHG can

prove more difficult than it should

- especially with holiday partying

and school. We ask some fivers

four simple questions to find out

how they do it.

CHIA YUN ZHU

What is your exercise regimen? What do you do to keep fit? There’s no exact exercise regimen that I have. I try to keep it to running around the school at least twice a week other than the usual sports trainings that we have in hall.

Any strict dietary requirements?Absolutely not, I live to eat so I will eat anything that tastes good to me. I believe fats can be burnt off when we exercise. (:

Any tips on how to stay energized during IHG?Intensive trainings will be tiring. Everyone please make sure you stay safe and sound once you’re not feeling well or if you’re injured. Remember to stretch well before training and hydrate yourself! Don’t forget your sunblock! ^^

TAN YONG KIAN

What is your exercise regimen? What do you do to keep fit?I visit the gym about thrice a week, doing light runs on the treadmill or cycle on the stationary bicycle and then lift some weights. Besides that, I run at the park near my neighbourhood and swim 20-30 laps about thrice a week to make sure I vary my exercise and have time to recover from my longer runs.

Any strict dietary requirements? The most important thing for me will be no fast food. As much as possible I also request for no gravy on my mixed veg rice and yongtaufoo. Also, no carbonated drinks except isotonic drinks. My weaknesses would be chocolate and chocolate ice-cream or gelato.

Any tips on how to stay energized during IHG?Have a good night’s rest (more than 6 consecutive hours) and stay focused on your goal. I believe as long as you’ve put in the effort, you’ll do your best on the actual day itself so you won’t let yourself and your team down.

CHAN SIZHEN

What is your exercise regimen? What do you do to keep fit?Well, I am not a gym person and sticking to an exercise regimen isn’t easy for me. So to stay active, I try to incorporate exercise into everyday life through simple activities like walking more and doing more chores. I also try not to miss any training and go for a run every now and then. Fresh food and an active lifestyle are key. I try my best to keep away from junk foods and eat healthily. Also, be happy and stay positive. Feeling happy also comes from within.

Any strict dietary requirements?I don’t have any!

Any tips on how to stay energized during IHG?I think that it s important to keep constantly hydrated at all times and be well rested. There is absolutely no substitution for a proper night’s sleep.

CHRISTOPHER CHUI

What is your exercise regimen? What do you do to keep fit?I exercise 4 times a week. On Monday I play hockey and Wednesday I have soccer and swimming training in preparation for IHG. During Saturday and Sunday mornings, I will cycle with friends about 90 to 100km each time to get myself ready for local and regional rides. I try to keep fit by maintaining an active lifestyle, which allows me to have a higher metabolism, better stamina and endurance.

Any strict dietary requirements?I do not adhere to any strict dietary requirements because I find it too stressful to restrict myself to tasty food even though it may be unhealthy. My friends know that I require daily supper before I can go to sleep. However, I try to eat those unhealthy and oily foods in moderation. After every strenuous workout, I try to consume more soy-based products and have a protein shake to aid recovery and stay fresh for the next sports.

Any tips on how to stay energized during IHG?The most important way to stay energised during IHG is to have fun. Although, everyone is aiming for victory, it is more important to enjoy the sports or rec games with your friends during training and the actual game. Try to participate in the various matches, even as a supporter to soak in the IHG atmosphere and build camaraderie of Hall V. Make sure to cheer loudly and act as our hall’s twelfth man, to give Hall V players the extra energy and motivation. It is also important to have specific recovery periods in between training sessions and IHG matches to prevent injuries and allow strains and bruises to heal.

WEE EE HONG

What is your exercise regimen? What do you do to keep fit?I go for fiver sports training for most days of the week as a form of exercise. Some nights when I have the time I will go for runs around the track to keep my stamina up.

Any strict dietary requirements?I’m very loose when it comes to my diet – but I stay away from green vegetables because it tastes very bad!

Any tips on how to stay energized during IHG?Some advice would be for Fivers to head down to the IH venues and enjoy the company of fellow Fivers. Doing so always makes this period feel much more enjoyable than it really is!
