Message from Program Head, EMET
Dear All,
While the need for excellent technical skills is growing, we welcomed a big undergraduate class
in Department this fall. We are delighted with the quality of the incoming students. It is up to
us now to provide the same, if not better, learning experience for the enlarged study body,
given resource constraints.
It gives an immense pleasure to release annual newsletter of Electro-Mechanical Engineering
Technology Department for the year 2018. During last year, various curricular and co-curricular
activities were conducted successfully by the department. Participation of Electrical and
Mechanical Engineering faculty in multiple training programs and International conferences
was the most encouraging factor, which we want to continue in the coming years also. Through
periodic seminars, symposia, workshops, graduation projects, industrial visits and industrial
training as integral parts of the course, the students were equipped with technical knowledge,
critical thinking skills and creativity to excel in the engineering profession.
The electromechanical engineering department is committed to creating a conducive
atmosphere for the development of young brains into bright professionals of the future. I
believe, that in the years to come, armed with commitment and perseverance of faculty and
staff, the department will continue to be the trendsetter in offering an array of curricular and
co-curricular activities to achieve academic excellence.
I hope you enjoy reading this issue of the newsletter as in the past. Please let us know your
story and suggestion.

18th and 19th September 2018, at Festival Arena, Dubai – UAE. The Messe Frankfurt Middle
East organised the exhibition. The exhibition brought together more than 21 leading global
automation, professionals of the Automation, educational institute, IoT and Artificial
Intelligence Industry under one roof, providing the right platform to showcase the latest
innovations and solutions. The electromechanical department students and staff from Abu
Dhabi Polytechnic have successfully participated in their exhibition and showcase their
graduation project in the field of automation. Our students have displayed three major
mechatronics project namely Medi -Pharm Smart Fridge, Water sample return and Water
levelling system. Medi-Pharm Smart Fridge has received much attention from the visitor. Their
portable nature and application to keeps the medicine in a preserved place, and when it is time
for the patient to take their medication, a message will be sent directly to their phones to serve
as a reminder to take their medication, has impressed many viewers. The participant Includes
Dr Saud Hamad ALDajah, Head-AD poly, Eng. Waseem Siddique, Lecturer-EMET, AD poly and
many of our students family. Special thanks to our EMET students specially Lateefa Mohamed

FESTO Pump Training System Workshop During the second week of October training and installation of the new pumps system was
done by one of our suppliers FESTO Company. The training and installation workshop
conducted on two centrifugal and two piston pump training systems and these new machines
have many advanced features where its velocity, speed, torque and pressure can be altered
using advanced control systems. Furthermore, these equipment comes with assembly tools
and safety features for the machine and the operator. This new equipment can be used to
perform complex hands-on experiments. These pumps are considered the high added value to
the machines and equipment of EMET, Abu Dhabi Polytechnic, and it can be used in many
courses such as Pumps OCT and the fluid mechanics.

Know Your Teachers
Eng. Rasha Tabasha
I am Rasha Tabasha working as a teaching
assistant for the Electromechanical Engineering
Technology Program at Abu Dhabi Polytechnic
since February 2016. I have completed my
Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronic
Engineering from Khalifa University of Science
and Technology. I am currently pursuing a
Master of Science in Electrical Engineering with
a focus area in Control from Rochester Institute
of Technology- Dubai. After graduation, I
always wanted to work for the industry.
However, I ended up joining the academic field
which was entirely different from what I have
imagined! I merely found my passion there!
Being able to interact with a significant number
of students, teaching them and supporting
them throughout their educational journey is
just AMAZING!
Since I was a kid, basketball and volunteering
were my best hobbies, and they still are. If you
haven't tried volunteering yet, here is a piece of
advice from me, go and do so! It is full of FUN! I
will end this with a small secret to my dear
students; YOU ALWAYS HAVE THE ABILITY TO
MAKE MY DAY! THANK YOU!
Dr. Fawwaz Mohammad
I completed my study at The West Pomeranian
University of Technology Szczecin in Poland,
where I received my Ph. D. in Electrical and
Electronics Engineering in 2005. I worked for
two years there in The Electrical and Computer
Engineering Department. In 2007, I joined the
Engineering Faulty of Al-Ahliyya Amman
University in Jordan where I worked as an
assistant professor in the Electronics and
Communications Department then in Electrical
Engineering Department.
In August 2017, I joined the Electro-Mechanical
Engineering Department at Abu Dhabi
Polytechnic where I found a platform for real
applied technical teaching. The students can
obtain both theoretical as well as practical
knowledge from highly professional staff due to
the management’s continuous pursuit to
enhance student’s skills to build the future of
UAE technologies. My research interest areas
are Renewable Energy & Harvesting, Energy
Efficiency & Management, Nondestructive
Testing, Numerical Methods & Programming. I
also received West Pomeranian University of
Technology Szczecin, Poland: Dean’s award for
progressive and scientific research – 2006. My
hobbies are reading, music and sport.
