A native of West Des Moines, Iowa, he holds a B.A. in mathematics and economics, and a J.D. in international law from the University of Iowa. MARY LOU RETTON Wednesday, October 28, 2020 Mary Lou Retton is America’s best-known Olympian. Catapulting to international fame during the 1984 Summer Olympics, she became the first American woman to win a gold medal in gymnastics, scoring two perfect 10s. Numerous honors and awards have been bestowed on her: 1984 Sports Illustrated “Sportswoman of the Year”; 1984 Associated Press “Amateur Athlete of the Year”; the first woman to appear on a Wheaties Box and one of America’s Top Ten “Most Admired” public figures. Today, she is a fitness ambassador promoting the benefits of nutrition and regular exercise. Mary Lou remains deeply involved in the gymnastics community. She is the mother of four daughters, all of whom are accomplished athletes as well.
CECE MOORE Wednesday, March 24, 2021 CeCe Moore is a DNA investigative expert, educator and pioneer in the field of genetic genealogy. She is the founder of The DNA Detectives and co-founder of the Institute for Genetic Genealogy. Since 2013, she has served as the genetic genealogy expert for the PBS TV series “Finding Your Roots” with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. CeCe is a highly sought-after genetic genealogy resource utilized by ABC’s “20/20,” “The Dr. Oz Show,” The Washington Post and the New York Times. Using the genetic genealogy techniques Moore pioneered, she has been involved in over seventy successful identifications in law enforcement cases. In 2019, she was appointed a non-resident fellow of the Hutchins Center at Harvard University.
STEVE HARTMAN Wednesday, April 28, 2021 Steve Hartman is a longtime CBS correspondent sharing unique stories in his segment “On the Road.” Known also for “Everybody Has a Story,” Hartman proved the adage by tossing a dart at an American map and randomly picking an interview subject from the local phone book. In 2010, he partnered with NASA and moved to a global scale with “Everybody in the World Has a Story,” opening with an astronaut on the International Space Station spinning a globe and pointing to locations to travel. A recipient of prestigious awards, Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia University Award, 3 national Emmy awards, 9 RTNDA/ Edward R. Murrow awards, Hartman was also a columnist for 60 Minutes Wednesday and a correspondent for CBS News magazines, Public Eye with Bryant Gumbel and Coast to Coast.
