Principal's Comment

ICAS Science certificates presented at Assembly tomorrow.
Senior Choir performing at Assembly tomorrow.
Reports Feedback for Parents
After assembly tomorrow, Jo and I will be running a session to allow parents to give us feedback on the new reporting format. It will be informal, but we really would like to know if improvements are needed. Staff have identified some changes that need to be made so now we would like to hear from parents. We will only take about 15 minutes of your time.
Athletics
It seems we picked the only day this week without rain, hail or snow for our house athletics carnival! Thank you to all the students for being on their best behaviour (as they always do) and to the staff and the many parent helpers who braved the freezing conditions. Special thanks to Simon Datson for his awesome organisation.
Hands on Learning
Our first session of Hands on Learning takes place tomorrow afternoon. We will have almost 50 very excited pre-schoolers in attendance, who will work with our specialist teachers over the 4 weeks of the program. If you are aware of any pre-school children who would like to attend, please have them contact the office.
Fete
Our Fete is our major fundraiser for the year. We all need to pull together as a school community to ensure it is a huge success. Many people in our school community are already working very hard to make sure this happens. Funds raised from our Fete will go towards renovations of the Library and Art buildings. Also on the wish list is internal painting and new pin boards for our upstairs building. We can only do these things if we fund raise. Any assistance, big or small, is welcome.

Asian Cultural Day On the 29th of July 2015, Heathmont College organised an Asian Cultural day for the neighbouring primary schools. More than 100 students and the Indonesian and Japanese Language teachers from Marlborough PS, Heathmont East PS, Tinternvale PS, Great Ryrie PS and Bayswater North PS participated in the whole day event at Heathmont College. Students were involved in four cultural sessions, namely batik and mask making, the Angklung and the Japanese martial art, Aikido. These sessions were run by teachers from the participating schools assisted by the Year 7 & 8 Heathmont College Indonesian students. We were also very fortunate to have Daniel Brooks and his team from the Australia Indonesia Youth Association to help with the Angklung sessions.
Flying Woks catered lunch on site; they prepared Indonesian fried rice and Japanese teriyaki salad. After lunch, participants gathered together for speeches and presentations that went live via Skype link-up with Heathmont SC Indonesian sister school in Jogjakarta. Students presented an Angklung ‘Topi Saya Bundar’ song watched by the audience here and also by the Indonesian school students.
As always our students demonstrated exceptional behaviour and joined in the activities enthusiastically. Thanks to Mr Addison and Mrs Begbie for attending with the students.
Hands on Learning begins tomorrow, 7th August!! For 4 year-old pre-schoolers.
Help your child get ready for school. This exciting program has been designed to develop the essentials of school readiness while having fun! Hands on Learning is a 4 week program held on Friday afternoons, beginning August 7th to August 28th, 2015. This program will be held in the afternoons 2:30pm– 3:15pm. For bookings and enquiries, please telephone the school. This program is available to all pre-schoolers. In Term 4, Tinternvale offers an Orientation Program for 2016 Prep Students.
Please take care
I have had a case of Hand, Foot and Mouth reported to me. The child is not at school but may have come into contact with others. Just letting you all know that it may be around.
Enrolments for 2016
If you have a child who is coming to school next year, please come into the office and collect an enrolment form. We have to lodge our proposed numbers with Department of Education and Training (DET) in early August, so the sooner we have an idea of our Prep numbers for next year, the better the prediction we can make. If you can’t get into the office, please call and our lovely office girls will mail one to you.

House Athletics
Congratulations to everyone on a fantastic day Tuesday! All our students did an amazing job despite the cool conditions, competing strongly and fairly for their houses and producing some excellent results along the way. The support you showed for each other and your houses was fantastic! A huge THANK YOU must go to all of our great staff and parents for supporting the day so well and running the events so efficiently and smoothly. The day would not have been such a success without your input and hard work. Thank you. Our winning house will be announced at assembly tomorrow and the district team will be selected by next week. Good Luck!

Prep-Level 2 Athletics Carnival, Wednesday 12th August
Calling all Parents
On Wednesday 12th August we are having our P-2 Athletics Days at school. Events will run from 9:30am to about 1:00pm. There will be a short opening ceremony followed by the students rotating around a range of running, jumping and throwing events. As always the event will finish with house relays.
We will need some assistance on the day to help the House Captains at the events, so if you are able to assist, please return the slip on the notice or let Mr Datson know.
We want this event to be full of colour, so students need to come dressed in appropriate house colours on the day.
Thank you and GOOD LUCK!
