THE FMF WAYFor over 45 years, Flemington Midget Football has provided instruction and support to thousands

of successful athletes. During that time, we have developed a unique culture, based around five

core beliefs that guide everything we do. “The FMF Way”, is what al lows us to successful ly

develop our athletes physical ly, mental ly and emotionally while providing them with positive

experiences and memories that wil l last a l ifetime. THE FMF WAY is:

FAMILYOnce a member, always a member

SAFETYAthlete safety first, last & always

TEACHINGCoaching is teaching

TEAMWEJ not me

SUCCESSShare the work, share the reward

Team success is a by-product of coaches developing every athlete to their personal potential as

they progress through the program. Good teams become great when coaches view practice as an

opportunity to help their athletes grow and develop and when athletes view practice as an

opportunity to maximize their contribution to the team.

No one can win by themselves. We all have to trust and rely on each other for the team to be

successful. Both coaches & athletes must be prepared to do whatever is necessary for the good of

the team. Great teams are built on Teamwork, Dedication, Effort and Trust. . . lessons that wil l help

our athletes succeed in sports and in l ife.

I t is every coach’s responsibi l ity to teach the fundamental ski l ls and strategies of their sport to ALL

of their athletes. I t is every athlete’s responsibi l ity to put forth the effort to learn. I f an athlete gives

the effort, coaches must do whatever is necessary to help them learn and improve. Athletes that

progress through our program giving honest effort WILL enter high school with a competitive

advantage in skil ls and tactics

The health and safety of our athletes comes before everything else. Parents trust us with their

chi ldren; we must do everything in our power to return them safely. Athletes must let their coach

know if they are injured and must not return to action unti l they are ful ly ready.

Whenever an athlete competes as a Pioneer or Jr. Red Devil , they join a long tradition of

excellence. Many have come before us; we must honor their work by our actions. Many wil l come

after us; we must provide them with a program to be proud of. Once an athlete becomes part of

our FMF family, they wil l forever be welcome here.

TRYOUT

Flemington Midget Football is a 501 (c)3 organization dedicated to improving the youth of Hunterdon Countythrough competitive Football and Cheer. One of the oldest youth football organizations in the area, from our

founding in 1 967 through 201 0, FMF teams were exclusively known as the Flemington Pioneers. Since 2009, wehave undergone tremendous growth and have reclaimed our original name of FMF. In 2009, we added ourextended season competition cheer team. In 201 0, with the addition our Hunterdon Jr. Red Devils teams, ourfootbal l offerings were expanded from four football teams participating in one league to ten football teamsparticipating in three leagues. In 201 3 we were able to offer, for the first time, an Extended Season CheerTraining Squad for girls who were either too young or not yet prepared for the rigors of our Extended SeasonComp. Team. Thoughout al l of our recent growth, we have worked hard to stay true to our guiding principles ,"The FMF Way", and maintain our position as the premier youth football and cheer program in the central

Hunterdon region.

In Skylands Varsity action on 1 0/11 , the Hunterdon

Junior Red Devils took on the Phil l ipsburg Little Liners at

Stewart Field. After a hard fought game, the JRD came out

on top with a 1 4-7 victory.

The game opened with PB kicking off to the JRD. A

return to the JRD 46 set up good field position. On 1 st

down, Terry Murphy gained 5yds to the 49, but was called

back for a penalty. On 1 st and 1 5, sol id blocking up front

from Christian Callahan, Jason Cozzi, Nick McClel lan,

Jake Saracinel lo, Mike Sposato, Chris Lalas and Kurt Rainey, help spring Murphy for 1 7yds to the

PB 42. Two more runs by Murphy got the Devils down to the 28 and another 1 st down. On 1 st

down, Luke Pizzico got the call and ran into a wall of PB defenders for a 2yd loss. On 2nd down,

Brad Totten found Christian Callahan in the PB secondary for a 20 yd completion to the 1 0.

Murphy took the next play to the 6. On 2nd down, Chris Schwoerer ran in for the score. The extra

point was no good and the JRD had a 6-0 lead. On PB's 2nd play of the series, a fumble was

recovered by Callahan at the PB 32. But 2 plays later, a JRD fumble was recovered by PB at their

own 28 just as the quarter ended.

Opening the 2nd quarter from their 28, PB mounted a drive that resulted in a score. More

important to the JRD was an injury to Murphy who was lost for the rest of the game. The extra

point run was good and P'Burg took a 7-6 lead. On the JRD next series starting at the 33, Pizzico

and Micah Dumornay were unable to move the ball against a tough PB defense and the JRD

were forced to punt. Pizzicos punt sent the Liners back

to their 44. PB mounted a short drive that ended with a

fumble that Pizzico recovered at the JRD 38. With only

25 Secs left in the half, the JRD ran 2 plays for l ittle

yardage as the half ended.

The JRD got the 2nd half started kicking off to PB.

Solid special teams work led by Alex Sias, Randy Behn,

Rowan Quintero, Charl ie LaGullo, Nick Brunetti and

Randy Yang stopped PB at their 32. The defensive front

of Tim Hough, Sposato, Callahan, McClel lan, Lalas, Alex

Clemons and Cozzi al lowed only a few short gains. The

secondary of Jaiden Taylor,

Schwoerer, Max Kurdyla and Brunetti

quickly stopped any potential long

gains and forced PB to punt.

Schwoerer took the punt at the JRD 3

and ran back to the PB 41 giving the

JRD good field position. After a 5 yd

penalty, Dumornay ran to the 26 for a

1 st down. Pizzico added 2 yds to the

24. On 2nd down, Pizzico took it the

remaining 24 yds in for the score.

Schwoerer's extra point was good

and the JRD went up 1 4-7. On P'Burgs next possession, another fumble was recovered by the JRD

at the PB 40. Pizzico, Brunetti and Dumornay combined for short gains to the 38. A penalty on PB

moved the ball up to the 28 just as the 3rd quarter ended.

The 4th quarter got underway with the JRD at the PB 28.

Dumornay ran to the 20, but a penalty moved the JRD back to the

25. On 2nd down, Tottens pass was intercepted at the 1 4. The

stubborn JRD defense held PB to a few short gains and forced a

punt that rol led down to the JRD 41 . Unable to move the ball , the

JRD punted to the PB 38. On 3rd down an interception by

Schwoerer at the JRD 48 stopped a PB drive. 2 short gains and a

crucial sack back to the 36 left the JRD with 4th and long. Pizzicos

punt was partial ly blocked and PB recovered at the JRD 45. With

only a few minutes left in the game, PB needed a quick score. An

incomplete pass on first down led to a 2nd down attempted screen

pass. But the pass was actual ly a lateral and fumbled by the

receiver. The ball was recovered by Schwoerer with about a minute

left in the game. Totten took a knee and the JRD won 1 4-7.

PIONEER VARSITYFourth Quarter Touchdowns lift Pioneer Varsity over Rams

Flemington vs Riegel Ridge. . .over the years,

this game has become synonymous with rivalry in the

WCMFL. Hunterdon County's longest running youth

football rivalry, the historic series has seen it's share

of heroes and heartbreaks, come-from-behind

victories and last-second disappointments. Between

Rams coach Bobby Brunner seeking his 1 00th

victory, the Rams holding their homecoming

festivities, and the WCMFL playoff implications, the

201 4 edition had as much on the line as any game in

recent memory. Two fourth-quarter touchdowns

allowed the Pioneers to snatch a 1 3-6 victory from the Rams, souring their homecoming and

adding to the series' history.

The first half had few highl ights for the Pioneers as the Rams took the opening kickoff

and marched down the field. A critical third down penalty kept the drive alive for the Rams, and

they notched the game's first score on a one yard plunge. Down 6-0, the Pioneers mounted a

drive with Alex DiMartino at quarterback and Dan Furmato churning yards on the ground behind

Andrew Wil l iamson, Vincent Tozzi, Sammy Amon, and Justin Portnoy. After several first downs

however, the drive stal led as the first quarter ended.

The highl ight of the first half for the Pioneers occurred in the second quarter with the

Rams driving deep inside Pioneer territory. Pasquale Vizzoni burst through the l ine and hit the

Rams quarterback, causing him to fumble. Joey Whalen recovered the ball on the Pioneer three

yard l ine and ended the Rams scoring threat. The teams entered halftime with the Pioneers

trai l ing 6-0.

The third quarter saw both teams battle through the fog and mud, neither team taking a

decisive advantage. As the clock counted down the quarter, the Rams mounted another drive

deep into Pioneer territory and momentum seemed to be on their side. As the fourth quarter

PIONEER VARSITYbegan, the Rams offense was turned away again and again by the suddenly stout Pioneer

defense. Tackles by Furmato, Justin Torres and Brian Torres kept the Rams out of the endzone

and fired up the defense. When Vizzoni caused his second fumble of the night, RJ Thornton

pounced on it and the crowd momentum swung clearly in favor of the Pioneers.

The Pioneer offense wasted no time pounding

the ball with Furmato and Thornton running behind the

inspired blocking of Markey, Colin Campbell , Jeff

Anderson and Jordan Cameron. With just over three

minutes to play, the crowd exploded when Brian Torres

took a screen pass from QB Justin Torres at the 40-

yard l ine, sl ipped a tackle, and outran the Rams

defenders to the endzone for the Pioneer's first score.

Thornton's bruising extra point run behind Furmato put

the Pioneers up 7-6 with time running out.

On the next possession, the Pioneer defense roared, pushing the Rams offense

backward when Thornton and Markey combined with Myles Hickey for a big first down stop.

Justin Torres nearly intercepted the Rams pass attempt on second down, and Kareem Salam

broke through the l ine, stopping the Rams running back cold on third and long. With time

running out, the Rams fourth down desperation razzle-dazzle was denied by a big hit from

Brian Torres, and the Pioneers received the ball on downs deep in Rams territory. On the very

next play, Justin Torres iced the game when he turned a QB sneak into another Pioneer

touchdown and a 1 3-6 Pioneer win, ruining the Rams plans for "victory fireworks".

With a 3-3 conference record, the 201 4 Pioneers must win out if they hope to secure the

fourth and final WCMFL playoff birth. Only the best teams qualify for the WCMFL playoffs, and

the Pioneers have earned an invitation to the party in 9 of the last 11 years. Coach Eggemann

and the team look to keep the Pioneers playoff tradition al ive when they travel to Phil l ipsburg to

take on the Pohatcong Warriors Sunday, October 1 9 at 3pm.

PIONEER JVThe Flemington Midget Football JV team visited the

Riegel Ridge Rams on Saturday. The Pioneers did their best

to hold back the Rams in the first quarter with Brody Hicks,

Avery Gould, and Logan Arteaga each bringing down the ball

carrier multiple times. Despite the good effort, the Rams were

able to score two touchdowns.

In the second quarter Kevin Reil ly did double duty as

defensive tackle and wide receiver for a 20-yard pass play

thrown by QB Jake ‘Soup’ Campbell . Owen Bil l and Vincent

Luciano each ran the ball multiple times but were unable to

reach the endzone. The Pioneer defense was able to prevent the Rams from scoring in the

second quarter, with good effort on the part of Dylan Gabriel who sacked the Rams quarterback.

In the third quarter Logan Burke, Aidan Portnoy, Brandon Mullen, and Aaron Importico all

contributed to the Pioneer defense, but an unfortunate fumble on the part of

the Pioneers was picked up by Riegel Ridge who then ran the ball into the

endzone. The Rams scored another touchdown later in the quarter.

In the fourth quarter it was Nicholas Robben’s turn to do double duty

as ball carrier and defensive tackle, and teammate Seth Gould recovered a

fumble that sl ipped out of several people’s hands, but the Rams scored yet

another touchdown ending the game at 35-0.

On Sunday the 1 9th, the Pioneers wil l head to Phil l ipsburg to take on

that started from the JRD 30 yard l ine. The offensive l ine, which consisted of Bennett Cayero,

Zachary Ghanim, Wyatt Ditzel, Walter Ditzel and Kevin Li, and wide receivers Daniel Reina,

played exceptional ly well in the second half. The Jr. Raiders gained -1 3 yards in the second

half.

The Jr. Red Devils were able to move the ball downfield. The Jr.

The Pioneers Flag Football Team had a solid

victory in Reigel Ridge against the Rams with a 4-2 win

on Saturday. While the temperature was cool, the

Pioneers started off running hot. On the third play of the

game, Connor Hoffman took the snap on a quarterback

keeper and ran 55 yards for the Pioneers’ first score of

the game. The Rams drove down the field on their first

possession to find themselves 1 st and goal on the

Pioneers’ 8-yard l ine. The Pioneers’ defense came up

big by stopping them on the next four downs.

Ethan Washington gained another touchdown on

the next Pioneer possession. On the “hulk” defense, Kasey Kinsley, Alexander Saus, and

Michael Brunetti would make key stops. Ultimately, the Rams were

able to squeeze out their first score of the game. The first half ended

as the Pioneers were driving down the field leaving the score at 2-1 .

The second half opened up with another touchdown for the Pioneers

with a run up the center by Andrew Cella. The Pioneer defense

continued to shut down the Ram offense. Coach Joe Pasquale gave

some of his l ineman

an opportunity to run

plays in the backfield.

After runs up the field

by Pioneer offensive

guards, Brody

Picariel lo and Aidaen Ball , Ethan Washington

took a hand off to the left side of the l ine to run a

55-yard touchdown. The Rams would score

again in the final minutes of the second half, but it was not enough to stop another Pioneer win.

On Sunday the 1 9th, the Pioneers wil l head to Phil l ipsburg to take on the Pohatcong

Warriors.

JAMES L. "JIMMY" WILSONOur Number One Fan

Jimmy Wilson left a lasting memory with everyone who visited Pioneer Field throughout the 1 980's and early1 990's. While his wheelchair kept him from taking part on the field, it couldn't keep him from being part of theteam. At the end of every summer, l ike the changing of the seasons, Jimmy was there to usher in footbal l

season. He was as much a part of the Pioneer family as the crack of pads echoing through the crisp autumn airand the roar of the crowd on game day. For close to a decade, Jimmy never missed a game, indeed, he nevermissed a practice in al l of his time with us. His love for the game and for the team was infectious and wil l beforever remembered. In 1 994, after his passing, the organization recognized Jimmy's contribution to our family

by naming the playing field after him and retiring the number one jersey, in memory of their #1 fan.

JOSEPH YASHKAS6/4/85 - 4/29/00 : Forever a Pioneer

Joey Yashkas was a Pioneer through and through. He played football for the program and was a greatteammate and a key member of the team from his peewee days through his eigth grade season. As much ashe loved football and his teammates, Joey also loved racing motorcycles. I t was this love that took Joey from usfar too soon. After the tragic motorcycle accident that took his l ife in 2000, the organization retired his number55 and decreed that in remembrance of Joey and Jimmy, their numbers 1 and 55 be painted in the corner of the

endzone for every home game so that they wil l always be part of our family.
