The ICRI Great Plains Chapter is looking forward to a fantastic 2016 year. We hope you and
many of your peer professionals that are involved with the concrete and masonry
restoration industry support, attend, and participate in the Chapter this year.
We have a fantastic team of Officers, Directors, and Committee Chairs dedicated to our
chapter and to our industry. We have a great mix of board members from Omaha, Kansas
City, and St. Louis to help serve the three large metro areas in our chapter.
We are excited to provide five Technical Seminars in our region this year. We will have two
Seminars in Kansas City, two in St. Louis, and one in Omaha. We have distinguished
speakers already lined up for the whole year. The subject matters chosen were based on
feedback from you and other Great Plains members. We hope you can join us for both our
annual Golf Outing and our always festive Holiday Party in early December. Refer to our
calendar of events, website, and newsletters for more information on these events. Your
attendance and involvement is what makes these events special.
In 2016 we are continuing the scholarship program by working with the Engineering
Universities in our region. The scholarships provide students an opportunity to be
acknowledged for their accomplishments and supplement their continuing education. This
provides great value to our community that we are proud to support.
Our members bring great value to our organization and we look for that to continue in 2016
and beyond. Your involvement, participation, and support of the Great Plains Chapter
strengthens the restoration community in Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska. We encourage
you to reach out to the Great Plains Chapter leadership with any suggestions, questions, or
other interests in the Chapter that you have. Your input and activity is needed and valued!
Sincerely,
Jaime Gaumnitz

The Great Plains Chapter’s The Great Plains Chapter’s The Great Plains Chapter’s The Great Plains Chapter’s first Technical Seminar was in St. Louis, at the Hilton
Downtown at the Arch on Thursday, February 18th. Jaime Gaumnitz
welcomed the attendees for the first time as 2016 President of the Great
Plains Chapter. After giving an overview of what is coming up for the year,
Jaime presented an Award of Excellence to Superior Waterproofing and
Goedecke for their work on the St. Louis Old Cathedral Restoration Project.
Tom Schmitt and Mike Rafferty accepted the awards on behalf of Superior and
Goedecke respectively.
The topic of the seminar was Corrosion Control and Mitigation. We had two
speakers. Tim Gillespie, V.P. of Product Management from the Sika
Corporation, travelled from Lyndhurst, New Jersey to give his presentation,
“Total Corrosion Management”. Tim addressed causes of corrosion, materials
and methods of mitigation, and corrosion management strategies. Our
second speaker, Sunil Puri, came to us from Atlanta, Georgia, where he is a
Senior Associate of the Diagnostics Group of Walter P. Moore. Sunil gave his
presentation, “Cathodic Protection—A Proactive Approach to Durable
Concrete Repairs”. His presentation covered the engineering and execution of
a cathodic protection system on a superstructure in Florida, covering all
aspects of the project from diagnostic analysis of the existing corrosion and
mitigation systems all the way through the repair of the structure and
installation of the new cathodic protection system.
The seminar was well attended by members from St. Louis, Kansas City, and
Omaha.
