Always Keep Moving! We have had another very busy week, the highlight of which was the 24-Hr Run for Egypt! This year we were raising

money for Tahya Masr, a charity that supports homeless children in Egypt. The event began with every student from

FS1 to Year and Grade 12 congregating for the opening ceremony and to watch the first lap of the track led by Mrs

Dajani and students from across the school. For the next 24 hours, students, staff, parents and family friends ran

continually around the track raising an amazing LE353,000, a fantastic achievement by our school community! This

event was just the start of the week’s activities as students took part in Sports Days in KS1, Science Week across the

Primary school, Mother’s Day celebrations in FS1 not to mention the usual busy schedule of lessons! Some of our

Cougar Sports Teams weren’t happy with simply running around the track either and our Cougar swimmers took part

in a gala hosted here at MES Cairo, the Y3 boys Cougar football team played a great game against NCBIS whilst the

Year 5 and 6 Girls Cougar football team hosted the Dar El Fa’eza Orphanage for a fantastic afternoon of football

supported by our secondary students. One thing is for sure, at MES Cairo we always keep moving!

…we had so much fun getting ready for our Mother’s Day celebration. We learnt a special song with Mr. Kyle and

we made beautiful artwork to give to our mum’s as a special gift, including footprint flowers! Making these was our

favourite part of the preparation; first, we chose the colour that our Mummy’s would like best, then we got our feet

all covered in paint ready to be artists and then we danced across the paper to make beautiful flower prints! After

we had finished our artwork, we washed our feet carefully and the put our socks and shoes on. We were very

resilient and lots of us managed to do this independently. Those of us who found it a little trickier had help from our

friends. Not only did our mummy’s love their beautiful cards but we had lots of fun making them!

…we have had such a busy and exciting week! We

were very excited and also a little nervous about

taking part in the 24-Hr Run for Egypt. We

prepared hats to wear in class, writing our names

in Arabic and adding Egyptian themed pictures, to

wear when it was our turn to run around the track.

On the day of the 24-Hr Run for Egypt, we all

arrived at school in our 24-Hr Run t-shirts, ready to

do our best. Ms Louise told us that we were very

resilient, completing many laps of the track during

our slot. After our run, we were lucky enough to

have a rest and sat down to enjoy a showcase by

the cast of Mary Poppins. Many of us had been to

watch the Whole School Production with our

families and we loved seeing the older children

performing again and singing along to the songs

that we had become familiar with! In amongst the

excitement of the run, we still managed to

complete a range of activities in the classroom and

pod; painting, writing and halving numbers to

name just a few. All in all, it has been a busy and

    productive week!

…we are still buzzing from the excitement of last

week in Year 2! We had a really fun week full of

exciting events with a sporty theme! First there

was the 24-Hr Run for Egypt. We collected

sponsorship money and did our part running

around the track to keep the sash going. Then we

had Science Day! We looked carefully at how

important exercise is for our bodies. We learnt

that it not only keeps us healthy but also happy.

You would think that we would be tired after all

that exercise but there’s no stopping Year 2 and

on Thursday we had our Sports Day. We had an

amazing time running, balancing, jumping and

aiming. Miss Hanna was really impressed with

how much energy we had and how much effort

we put into each of the activities. But it was easy

really because we were having SO MUCH FUN!

Our Magic Moment was realising that even

though we didn’t win all the time it was still a lot

of fun taking part and cheering everyone on.

    ‘East, West, EVERYONE’S the best!!!’

…we had a very busy week! First, we had great fun preparing for the 24-Hour Run for Egypt that took place on

Tuesday. We made fox hats to wear, created beautiful cards for Mother’s Day and looked at our fitness ready for

the run. We had a great time participating in the run and lots of our mums and dads joined us! Some of us even

came back in the evening with our parents to complete some more laps of the track and enjoy the music

performance. The next day, we had a quick breather from all the running to complete some exciting activities as

part of Science Week. Our focus was to investigate our five senses. Each class went to visit a teacher and did some

experimenting with touch, sight, hearing, tasting, smelling and testing our hearts. Did you know that smell is one

of our strongest senses and it helps us stay safe from danger and food that can make us sick? To finish our week,

we were back running on the field for our Sports Day! We had so much fun and Ms Jeanine was really pleased to

see all of us taking part in the events, trying our best and being such a great team!

…we finished off a busy week in fine style with our

Science Day! We explored magnets and magnetism and

discovered many amazing magnetic magic tricks such as

making ring magnets float, and using magnetic forces to

make compass needles turn all by themselves! Our

friends in the other classes were really impressed when

we shared these with them! We also learnt new

scientific vocabulary including ‘repel’, ‘attract’ and ‘pole’

as well as amazing facts about magnetic forces. Did you

know that the Earth itself is a giant magnet? Having

learnt so many facts and completed tricks we decided to

carry out an experiment, investigating which magnet

was the strongest. We attached paperclips to our

magnets to see which one could hold the most. The

winner was the Wand Magnet which was still going

strong when we ran out of paperclips after more than

one hundred and fifty! What a great way to end a great

    week!

…we had a chance to take our Mathematical skills out of the classroom and into the kitchen! It was time to make

some pizzas! There were lots of problems to consider; could we measure accurately? Could we read the scales

accurately so that we put the correct amount of each ingredient into our dough? How long should we put our

pizzas in the oven for and at what temperature? We needed all of our new mathematical skills to ensure that we

had some tasty pizza to eat as well as plenty of resilience and resourcefulness since following a new recipe can be

tricky! Luckily we used all of our measuring skills correctly and produced delicious pizzas. We even divided them

fairly, using our fraction knowledge to help us. We can’t wait for our next opportunity to showcase our Maths skills

in the kitchen – chocolate brownies anyone?!

…we have been studying traditional tales from around the world,

combining our work in English with our Topic, ‘From Nile to

Niagara’. We began with Ali Baba from the Middle East, then

Anansi the Spiderman from Africa, Agatha the Inuit from

Northern Canada and Baba Yaga the scary witch from Siberia,

who eats children! The lucky boy who escaped from Baba Yaga

was Yuri Malikovitch, so we hot-seated him for a radio interview

for Russian Radio. Ms Sheila was very impressed by our

questions and responses and it really helped us develop our

    understanding of this character!

…we have been studying keys and classifying

animals into groups in our Science lessons.

To help us understand the process of

classifying, we sorted our favourite sweets

into groups based upon their characteristics

and properties. We had lots of fun and even

got to eat the sweets at the end! Now we are

ready to apply our new knowledge to

    animals and plants.

Year Four love using PicsArt! Breaking into the digital mash-up zone, we can take

some of our digital, as well as non-digital learning, and present them on a digital

platform that can be saved/stored online, or printed as collages in our workbooks.

We resourcefully use this image editing app to edit our learning photos, turn them

into collages, and add drawings and text. We have also been resilient whilst

learning to photo blend, use artistic filters and AI-powered photo effects, as well as

use the layering and drawing tools, cropping, text overlay and much more. How can

you keep your family memories alive using the PicsArt app at home?

On Tuesday, 20th March, the Year 3 Boys Cougar Football team played

against NCBIS in a friendly match. After conceding a goal early on, the boys

organised themselves and with tremendous effort, good team play and

confidence were able to equalise, with Adam S. scoring from close range. It

seemed that this was the start of the Cougar roar! By now NCBIS were

having issues with their positions and the ball did not leave their side of the

field. At half-time it was still 1-1, but the boys continued to show great team

work and resilience and their play in the second half was very impressive!

MES Cairo maintained possession, and the midfielders and strikers

demonstrated great passing and shooting whilst the defenders were there

to collect the ball and show their strengths in 1 on 1 situations. After a great

free kick, Adam K. forced the goalkeeper to stop the ball and Mario was

there to quickly pick up the rebound and scored, taking MES Cairo to 2-1 up.

MES Cairo maintained their focus and in the final minutes Amr got the ball,

dribbled past the defenders and scored taking the final score line to 3-1. A

fantastic performance by all of the team!

On Sunday 19th March, MES Cairo Year 5 and 6 Girls Cougar Football Team welcomed children from Dar El Fa’eza

Orphanage for a football match. MES Cairo created two teams and the children from Dar EL’ Fa’eza then joined

them. Hana Mahmoud and Zeina Fouda briefed their teams ensuring everyone knew their tactics and positioning.

Laila Reda ensured her team’s goalkeeper was fully equipped sharing her goalkeeper gloves with her new friend.

The game kicked off and with excellent footwork from Hisham a goal was quickly scored for the Green Team. The

Orange Team fought back hard with excellent defending from Sara Masarany and a talented little girl from Dar El

Da’eza, who together prevented several other goal scoring opportunities. Khadija Hamada worked tirelessly to

create many opportunities in front of the goal posts which eventually paid off with Zeina scoring! Dana Zaki produced

some excellent saves throughout the match. The final score finished 3-1 to the Green Team. Well done to all of the

girls who played and thank you to the Senior students for providing referees, cheerleaders and coaching.
