Your dedication and commitment to this community has brought the United Way Campaign to the $1 million dollar mark! With Thanksgiving coming up this weekend, we wanted to give thanks – to you! We’re thankful we live in such a caring community, we’re thankful that people from all sectors and all walks of life come together to help people in need. We’re thankful for the army of volunteers who work tirelessly, we’re thankful for the generosity of donors who support us year after year, and we’re thankful for everything you are doing to ensure a successful 2016 campaign. Keep up the great work as you strive for the goal of $3,451,000. Thank you! With Thanksgiving coming up this weekend, we wanted to give thanks – to you! We’re thankful we live in such a caring community, we’re thankful that people from all sectors and all walks of life come together to help people in need. We’re thankful for the army of volunteers who work tirelessly, we’re thankful for the generosity of donors who support us year after year, and we’re thankful for everything you are doing to ensure a successful 2016 campaign. Keep up the great work as you strive for the goal of $3,451,000. Thank you!

PUSH FOR CHANGE

One in five individuals in shelters are youth between the ages of 15 and 24 in Canada. In Kingston, it is as high as one in three. United Way is taking action to address this complex issue.

Highlighting the need to end youth homelessness within Kingston and area is former homeless youth turned CEO (Mindware Design, 2003), Joe Roberts, who is pushing a shopping cart across Canada to raise awareness & funts to end youth homelessness. He has crossed into Ontario and is making his way towards Kingston.

Sponsored by Cushman & Wakefield Kingston and coordinated by United Way, there will be numerous events over his two-day stay in Kingston.

Join this amazing experience and welcome Joe to Kingston! On Thursday, October 6 from noon until 1:00pm Joe arrives in Kingston along Highway 15 to Highway 2. This will be the opening event where you can walk with Joe on his way to City Hall.

Also, there is a Community Luncheon on Friday, October 7, from noon until 2:00pm at the Ambassador Hotel & Conference

Centre. Sign up today!

Tickets for the luncheon are $10 each. Youth are free and can register by emailing [email protected]

Can’t make the events? Donations will be accepted right here. 50% of the money will be donated back to the Kingston region, going towards youth homelessness programs in KFL&A. The fundraising campaign has been kick-started with a

FIRE & RESCUE COMMUNITY DAY!The Kingston Fire Department invites the community to join them for their first ever Fire & Rescue Community Day. Located at their new training centre at 3 Terry Fox Drive, Kingston. On Saturday, October 22, experience some fun activities and a silent auction. Fun for the entire family!

Boot donations will be accepted for the free activities. These activities include training tower tours, an antique fire truck display, Sparky the dog and so much more.

A day pass includes ladder rides, driving in a fire truck, combat challenge events and putting out a car fire. Tickets for the day pass are $10 per person or $20 per family.

If you get hungry, you are in luck! There will be Glocca Morra Farms and Smokin Carnivore food trucks on site.

NEXT GEN EVENTS

It’s time to recruit 2 or more people from your workplace for the Next Gen Pool Party held at Raxx Bar and Grill on Friday, October 21! Teams will go head to head in a double elimination 8-ball tournament in an effort to support the United Way. Individual players can also sign up and will be paired up the day of the event.

The fun doesn’t stop there. Throughout the afternoon there will be a variety of games, draws and activities including a grand prize for the winning team. This event is sponsored by Investors Group.

Next Gen Networking Event

On Wednesday, September 28, over 30 Next Genners and Community Leaders gathered at the Merchant Tap House Kingston. The event was a great opportunity to share experiences and stories with Kingston & Area executives, community leaders and Next Gen peers.

We were delighted to have community leaders shared their tips for success and how they came to be in their leadership role. Thank you to everyone who attended the event!

Campaign News• Check out the book sale

that is located in front of the Canadian Hearing Society at the Frontenac Mall. The book sale started from September 1 and it will run throughout their campaign. Book donations are welcome anytime! Thank you to ECC Kim Murray for putting this on.

• Postmedia Network Inc. kicked off their 2016 campaign with a BBQ on September 29th. They celebrated with great food and an agency speaker. Thank you to new ECC Mike Moran for all your hard work.

• Assurant Solutions Chili Cook off happened on September 30. 8 different Chili dishes were made by staff. Employees could purchase a large bowl or small bowl that came with a bun and a drink. Thank you to Mark Riley for making this happen.

• Family and Children’s Services of Frontenac, Lennox & Addington hosted a bake sale in conjunction with their all staff meeting on September 29. This also kicked off the start of their United Way campaign which including an agency speaker at the event. Way to go Lori Acay and committee, for putting on a great morning!

• Kicking off their campaign, the Queen’s Students - Alma Mater Society hosted a BBQ on Union Street and University Avenue from 11:00-2:00pm on Tuesday, October 4. Great job organizing this event, Julian Frasier and Marlee Satok & commmittee members!

• KPMG LLP kicked off their campaign with breakfast this morning! They shared their fundraising goal and a calendar list of office events. An early bird prize was announced today! Good luck with your campaign and thank you ECC Katie Horst and her committee!

• Delicious treats are around for three days starting today until this Friday, as K3C Community Counselling Centres holds a Bake Sale. Thank you for coordinating this, ECC’s Jillian Stoness and Sarah Liggett.

• Joyceville Institution was cooking it up with a BBQ today at noon. Keep up the great work ECC’s Jacqueline Edwards and Lorrie Oddie.

• ECC Dawn Sadler from Kingston Home Base Non-Profit Housing was hard at work prepping for their BBQ that is being held today from 11:30-1:00pm.

• Corporation of the County of Frontenac held a pancake breakfast with all the trimmings for $5 from 6:30-9:00am this morning. Thank you to ECC Angelique Tamblyn.

• As the weather changes so do the food events! Northern Frontenac Community Services will be hosting a chili lunch on October 6 from 12:00pm-1:00pm. All the best to ECC Louise Moody.

• The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care is kicking off their campaign on October 6 with a pizza lunch. They are also hosting 5 different agency speaker events throughout October! Way to Go ECCs Richard Carr and Justin Smith!

• Employees are getting creative at Providence Care. They are holding a cake auction on Friday October 7. Way to go ECC Danielle Preston and the whole committee for coordinating this.

• Corporation of County of Lennox & Addington are kicking off their campaign with a pizza lunch on Friday, October 7. A draw will also be held for a paid day off work. Great work ECC Buffy Whalen for all of your hard work!

• The second phase of the LCBO point of sale campaign is in full swing and wraps up October 9. Make sure to make a donation of $2, $5 or $10 at the till. All the best to the LCBO crew!
