ELEMENT USB LEADTYPE-A TO TYPE-B

The Atlas Element Integra asymmetrical interconnect shares many similar features to its stable-mates in the Atlas line. It employs a braided copper and aluminium foil giving a 100% screen to provide rejection of radio frequency interference (RFI), it employs high quality Ohno Continuous Casting copper (OCC) for its conductors together with a low loss porous polyethylene dielectric (PEF).

The Element was researched and developed by Atlas in order to

provide a better than average, high quality, entry level interconnect.

Following from our research and development programme, the Element is fitted with our entirely new Integra non magnetic RCA plug. The plug benefits from a solder free, cold weld interface between the pure OFC copper co-axial stranded conductors and the plug for both the going and return signals. Being free of solder, another barrier to the free-flow of the signal has been removed.

Using four cores of high purity OFC conductors twisted in helical fashion to maximise the rejection

of EMI, as well as a 95% screen providing excellent rejection of RFI.

Atlas Fibre Optic cables come with a high quality light conducting optical fibre. A thermal barrier protects the delicate fibre from heat warping and a mechanical outer barrier is

applied to protect the assembly from damage. The ends are then precision polished in order to reduce harmful reflections.

4K MEDIA PLAYER: MINIX X8-H PLUSA great 4K media player worth recommending is the Minix NEO X8-H Plus. The ancestor, the X8-H, was probably the first 4K media player in the market. It's quad core processor and 8 core video processor meant that we can watch 4K content seamlessly from USB. For streaming, you were probably restricted to Full HD. Now, the Plus version has been

released, we can now also seamlessly stream 4K video content. This is thanks to the addition of many acronyms to its feature list, like 802.11ac, Gigabit, H.265 HEVC, OS4.2.2. The Minix is based on the Android OS and happily supports XBMC, meaning your choice of TV series, movies and music is practically unlimited. Many are completely legal. You can mirror your tablet or phone on the TV. Play back ripped Blu-ray ISOs. For the technically minded user, you can 'root' the device; though it comes setup for those that just

want to use it without too much fiddling. Minix also gives you 2 years of OS upgrades, so expect upgrades for 5.0 Lollipop down the track.

Some key ingredients are fast connectivity, so AC Wi-Fi and Gigabit wired. More than double the video compression, thanks to the H.265/HEVC codec. A good quad processor and a very good video processor. Finally, nice firmware.

The market for media players in extremely competitive, so even a top media player like the Minix X8-H Plus will cost under $300.

HIGH RESOLUTIONS ARE HERE TO STAYIn a decade, we've upgraded from Standard Definition (SD) to High Definition (HD) and then HD to Full HD. The Avatar inspired 3D craze came and went, but the pursuit for higher resolutions continued unabated. On each side of the bell curve we have people who will spend money to bask in the glory of having the latest and greatest and those at the other end of the spectrum that will wait it out and never actually buy anything. Most of us sit somewhere in between.

In 2014, Ultra HD / 4K was for the early adopters, but expect it to become a standard resolution in 2015. This change will come about as people buy larger TVs. With larger TVs, comes higher the resolution. The second driver will be the availability of content. For 4K you now have content from online, YouTube, Netflix, Blu-ray by the end of 2015 and many predict that iTunes will also release 4K at any time soon.

First, higher resolutions have less space between the dots, meaning irrespective of the content, contrast will be ceteris paribus better. For 4K content, we have made a huge leap forward in contrast ratios and

colour gamut.

Nearly 2 years ago we started selling the Ubiquiti AC antennas for businesses and consumers that wanted great Wi-Fi. These

antennas are generally mounted on the ceiling and cabled back to a switch or router. While these external Wi-Fi antennas are still the best option, they are too costly for some budgets.

Today we have loads of 802.11ac devices, like the iPhone 6 or Minix media

player (reviewed above) that are capable of using 802.11ac. Given AC Wi-Fi can support much higher speeds and deliver better coveragethanks to beam forming technologyit's probably time to upgrade.
