On July 21, 2014, BelClaire's Diesel Bawse was awarded his Canine Good Citizen designation from the Salisbury Kennel Club in Salisbury, Maryland.

Also, Diesel got a Newf sister, Byland's Aberdeen Granite Dubh, a/k/a JoJo,

just this month. JoJo was a Newf rescue, and she came all the way from Georgia to be with her new family.

Diesel and JoJo live in Ocean City, Maryland and they are treasured companions.

We're delighted to announce the arrival of

a new Newf puppy to our household.

Forever Longship's Tsarina (Rina), a black girl with white "twinkle toes" in the

rear, came to live with us in August at 10 weeks old.

She's a good puppy although a bit of an

imp like all Newf puppies are and we're so happy to have her with us!

Topmast Wreck of the Ethie (aka Ethie, Miss Mouse) December, 2002 - August 8, 2014

Loved by Hilary Hyland and thousands of children in Virginia, Maryland & Washington, DC, Ethie visited hundreds of schools while her mom gave author presentations on The Wreck of the Ethie. She was a magnificent ambassador for the breed. Precocious and personable, Miss Mouse relished the attention from her many fans. Somehow, instinctively, she was her gentlest with the smallest and shyest kids. For such a large, strong-willed dog, her sensitivity and tenderness never ceased to amaze. Although Ethie retired from school visits a few years ago, her last public appearance was being included in the Newfoundland Honor Guard at Ken Myer's funeral. She seemed to know it was a special day and proudly wore her Newfoundland tartan scarf for the occasion; a fitting farewell for a true friend of our beloved breed. Her favorite pastimes were helping Dad grill, lunging at the dogs and bears on Animal Planet, napping on her loveseat and vocalizing, "woo, woo, woo" when it was dinnertime. Hopefully the angel in heaven in charge of feeding realizes Ethie has a finely honed body clock and that she does not tolerate any deviation from her dinner schedule…including during the dreaded Daylight Savings Time. Now she is free... romping, swimming and making snow angels with her pals, Teddy Bear and Cubby. A great one is gone, but not forgotten.

Ch. Nautika ‘N Pandaga’s Unacalzanera (Calza)

May 2, 2005 – September 20, 2014

Calza was helped over the Rainbow Bridge on September 20, 2014, the day before the Fall Fun Day. She had been suffering from Lyme’s Disease, bleeding issues, and a possible poisonous snakebite. The bleeding issues were possibly related to to Hemangiosarcoma, an aggressive cancer of the blood vessel lining that often leads to sudden death in large breed dogs. She had been suffering from the mentioned medical problems since the second week in August, but she had been on the mend. I woke up the day before the Fall Fun Day to find that she had taken a turn for the worse. I loaded her in the car with the luggage and headed to the vet on the way out of town. Unfortunately, I left the veterinarian’s office by myself. I rehomed Calza from Pandaga Newfoundlands in Ithaca, New York. She earned her AKC Championship and became a part of Pandaga’s breeding program. Calza was the stereotypical female Landseer Newf in many ways. First off, she was smarter than my previous two Newfs, who were male. She also had a mischievous side and seemed to try her hardest to “put one over” on me. This included acting like she wanted a tummy rub, then springing up and grabbing a piece of food when I went to rub her stomach. She was also known for bringing unusual things home. I will never forget one Thanksgiving Evening that went for a walk. She went into the woods to go to the bathroom and took a lot longer to come back than normal. She finally showed back up with half of somebody’s turkey! Calza was also famous for escaping from the car during Fall Fun Days and joining the festivities. Calza was survived by a loving family (including my mother, who is now fully “Newfed”), Jacqueline Brellochs from Pandaga and many children and grandchildren. She will be missed. - Brad Cole

“I still have the leads and collars, the feeding bowls of all my Newfies, these together with four cigar boxes with their ashes in are all I have to remind me of twenty wonderful years during which they were my constant companions. There are also the few photos on the dining room wall and if you look at my Twitter page you will see them in situ as I enjoy them. It was after I had already written five fictional books that I felt ready for book based closely on these years, I altered very little by way of the story or the action of the dogs it would have been wrong to alter anything about their individual characters…. In my book Life With My Newfoundlands I have tried to show my approach to living with them and the huge return I received from them.” Sybil Powell available from Amazon as a Kindle Edition ($5) and as a paperback ($10.50)

Histories are more full of

examples of the fidelity of dogs than of friends. Alexander Pope

adopter that will be meeting her soon and has already had their home visit completed. • Thank you, Aleshia Harvey for donating a dermatology visit for Daisey!

Parade Date: Saturday, December 6, 2014 Parade Check-In Time: BY 8:00 am

Parade Start Time: 8:30am We are excited about the plans that are underway for the 2014

Christmas Parade. Over the past years, we have watched the parade increase in enthusiasm, excitement and creativity and we are expecting 2014 to be the best ever!

We are looking forward to more carts and costumes with decorations supporting the theme of the parade. Hi Chuck Sorry to take so long to get back to you regarding your very generous donation of the set of four prints to our Championship Show. We have just received the show photos back from our official photographer so I have included a photo of the prints (which we framed) on our auction table as well as a photo of the Best Exhibit in Show. Best Exhibit in Show was awarded to Ch. Newfcastle U Alwayshadthepower (AI) who is owned and bred by Robyn Nagle and Helen Durell of Newfcastle Newfoundlands. This bitch was also awarded Best Intermediate in Show. We auctioned the prints and they sold for $200 !!! We were thrilled as was the winning bidder!!! Thank you again Chuck for your support - it was really a very special and generous donation. Kind regards Deb -- Deb Clack Secretary Newfoundland Club of Victoria Inc PO Box 270 Emerald Victoria 3782 Tel: 0417 760 875
